The overhead camera’s resolution is abysmal. I feel like it isn’t usually this bad but it seems like a huge oversight from someone who is supposed to be paying attention to these things.

He could have cast Berserk. The only restriction is you can't cast it after your combat damage step. I play a lot of legacy infect so I'm very well acquainted with Berserk.
First the equipment cost is 5 so he was one mana short, second even if he was able to equip it, the copy enters at the start of combat before declaring attackers and the mare has a trigger that when it comes in he taps all other creatures including your own, so the copy would tap the original one.
