The brave don't live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.
🙌🏻
Ummm......I think life might be a little more complex than a Hallmark card!
@Gabriel Preda And that way lies MEDIOCRITY.
Amen!
It is very possible to live both a cautious & meaningful life
There's just something so raw about this performance in the voice, the expressions, the way it's shot in a single cut, the way all her surroundings seem to fade out - I find it soul hauntingly captivating. This one scene kicked the whole movie from a 'pretty good, might watch it again' movie to an all-time favourite for me.
Yeah apparently this was shot live and in one take. Just shows how flawless she is
quite similar to when Anne Hathaway sang I Dreamed a Dream in the movie version of Les Misérables. Close camera angle, scaled down rendition, made it very touching.
It is one of my favorite scenes from any movie.
I like your summary. 👍👍
This ending works so well because it displays what true love really means! Putting another's happiness before your own. The film is all about following your dreams and in the end their character realised that they loved each other enough to let one another go if it meant they could achieve those dreams.
Never heard of the concept of long distance relationships.
It does not work indefinitely, but the longing can also be positive.
It blows my mind that it's a story about love and the cost of dreams but the charlatans view it as Hollywood sucking its own d*ck
I guess I must have totally missed it. I thought that it was Mia's selfish dreams that were more important than true love. True love is when you put your longtime companion's happiness over your own. Selfish love is when you put your dreams ahead of the one you love, like Mia did in La La Land.
The entire film was building to them being together. It was stupid to destroy the entire story...Damien.
@@Kurt77777 exactly. Sebastian worked hard to support her dream. She repaid by dumping him.
Watching Emma Stone appear on the screen with movies such as Easy A or Zombieland, it's crazy to see her amazing performance in La La Land. It just shows how versatile of an actress she is.
Spider-Man?
@@DreamyCityGirl that too. same as birdman, the help, crazy stupid love; she's been in a lot.
her first appearance was Superbad. and she pretty much stole the show for me. Jonah hill is funny and he was one of the antihero protagonists but i liked Emma more because she wasn't an anti hero, she was just honestly a good person. you could kinda see how she just.... idk is honestly present. similar to michael cera actually.
please go and watch birdman! Feels like a bridge between both sides :)
Yes, City of Stars is a beautiful song, but in my opinion this song was the one that deserved the Oscar. Is so powerful, and it's more impressive when you know this was recorded completely live and Emma's acting was improvised.
Well this scene is the one that won her an oscar
Now if only Emma Stone could sing as well as she can act
@@ShowtuneSampler I bet she sings better than you
No.
I really felt conected to mia all the movie.
I connected with and identified with Sebastian. You're a guy and you connected with/identified with/sympathized with the girl? Or did you mean you were attracted to her? Did you like the way that she flipped off Sebastian at the beginning when he and the other drivers were stuck in that traffic jam for who knows how long and she was more absorbed in her career goals than the people around her? Or how about Sebastian wanting to be at her play but couldn't because he joined the band that he didn't want to be a part of because she wanted that for him but then was angry at him because he wasn't at her play? Or how about Sebastian being on the road flying to L.A. between gigs to surprise Mia with that dinner and Mia getting into that stupid fight and leaving after all that Seb had done for her? Or when Sebastian drives all the way to a different state to find Mia to tell her about the audition and she didn't want to go and also wondered about how he found her as she never told him where she lived (but he figured it out because he listened to her)? Or the song "City of Stars" where Sebastian wonders and worries whether this new love will work out or whether it will be yet another dream that doesn't come true? I guess we find the answer to that at the end when Sebastian is alone and Mia dumped him for some other dude when she could have either A) chosen Sebastian over her career or B) could have had Sebastian AND her career. Before the poison of feminism, she would have chosen Sebastian over her career, but because Sebastian loved her, she would have had both. Sadly, too many people identify and sympathize with Mia in this film when she was a woman who put career first. Screw everyone else. I totally get this song, though, and being an artist and a dreamer who lives life to its fullest with a passion and energy that few have and yet whose dreams never come true along with relationship heartache, etc. But in this case, the mess that is made is kind of Mia's fault as she chooses feminism and the sick, selfish, and lonely world that feminism brings to those who embrace it. Kind of a sad and lonely existence in Manhattan for a liberal these past few decades. Selfishness at its finest.
@@Kurt77777 omg what the hell is even that? stop with the text, nobody's gonna read this bs. people connected to her cause they've seen themselves in her, stop being an as*hole
Same
@@Kurt77777 we never got to see what the play actually was. She, as a writer, had a vision of what she wanted it to be and that is completely okay. Plus, it's her first play, she may not be that confident to drag in other people who she cares if it could ultimately fail. You never know, they couldve turned her down if she offered. Theres so many things we don't see, so we are expected to fill in the blanks. You may see it that way and I see it my way. I find a problem when you impose your opinions on another person and say that they are selfish for not accepting your view of the film. For someone calling another person selfish, your quite close minded
@@niamholoughlin4174
Did you mean, "YOU'RE quite CLOSED minded"? I don't force my opinions on anyone and I never once said that someone was selfish for not accepting my view of the film. Where did I say that? And when someone does call another person selfish, how does that make them closed minded? Maybe they really are selfish and the person calling them out is only speaking the truth. I never understood people who read what someone else wrote and then twist around what they said into something completely different. Is it intentional and deliberate or is it just low intelligence and low comprehension skills? It isn't my opinion that Mia was selfish, she just was. My whole point was that feminism is toxic and a very selfish movement. You see the result in the film, Mia and Sebastian end up not together. It's pretty obvious and clear but yet so few see it. I agree that Mia can indeed write whatever play she wants to write, and it is her vision and that doesn't make her selfish for not including her friends in the play. I'm looking at a pattern of selfishness. As to your point that her roommates could have turned her down if she had offered them parts, I live in Los Angeles and I can guarantee you that any wannabe movie star NEVER turns down any offers to be in a movie or play unless they are already involved in a bigger project. Only those who have already "made it" turn down roles/offers.
I had zero interest in this movie. Then I happened to see it and was fascinated. Had to watch a few times to
catch everything.
Scott C same here! now one of my absolute favorites that has so many memories and emotional attachments to me now.
She was somehow able to put the entire synopsis of the movie into one three minute song, and put so much feeling into it that it broke our hearts watching it, like we were watching something private that we shouldn't be seeing. She deserved that Oscar and anyone who says differently hasn't really watched this scene and what she put into it. She has grown into such an phenomenal actress and has come so far since the likes of Superbad and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Props to her! 👏👏
Great moment, but regardless, Oscars aren't ever won on performance. They're campaigned or pandered for.
The reason why Emma Stone won the Oscar for best actress, this shows her pure untamed talent - Leaving her as one of the best actresses of the 21st century alongside the likes of Saoirse Ronan, Meryl Streep and Claire Foy
Claire Foy? Really? I've never heard anyone line her up with these others
Put Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett instead of Claire and Saoirse 🙄
@April Basuroy Biswas brie Larson🤣
TheDCTVshow cate blanchett, Meryl Streep, Emma stone, Michelle williams are some of the best out there Claire foy also very underestimated she was outstanding in the crown, I like soarsie but I think every character she played were similars, she still needs to prove herself
I would add Natalie Portman and Kate Winslet
2 seconds later:
*"Mrs. Dolan, voice auditions are down the hall to the right. "*
I see that M-R-S 😏
I couldn’t breathe during this song. Emma was perfect.
Highly doubt that. You'll would've passed out from holding your breath that long, unless you had prior training which you have not.
Good grief, that wasn’t meant literally😅
Stunning. This clinched the Oscar for her. Three minutes of uninterrupted sustained raw emotion. Reminds me (somewhat) of Barbra Streisand's solo at the end of 'Funny Girl.' Not comparable in voice but in sheer talent.
Great moment, but regardless, Oscars aren't ever won on performance. They're campaigned or pandered for.
The Fools Who Dream - the song so cute
Emma Stone well deserved her Oscar
Great moment, but regardless, Oscars aren't ever won on performance. They're campaigned or pandered for.
The most powerful song of the movie!❤️
I love every song of this masterpiece, but in my opinion this song summarises the message of the movie.
Our name isn't the only thing that we have in common, this song is everything!
This scene won emma that oscar! Very well deserved!
Great moment, but regardless, Oscars aren't ever won on performance. They're campaigned or pandered for.
Such a beautiful voice she has. I can listen her sing all day.
I may have had my doubts on this film before. Mainly because it took out some of my favorites. But looking at it now I'm actually on board with this movie. No wonder this was nominated for so many awards, this is perfect.
Isn't she singing about each one of us? Who doesn't have a dream? Whose heart has never ached? Who's never made a mess?
"someone in the crowd could be the one you need to know
the that finally lifts you off the ground" which actually did
This song gives the movie it's core. So impressive!
From pocket full of sunshine to this
there are films .. works of art, .. masterpieces, but the proof given by these actors, emma stone and ryan gosling with the extraordinary musical work in which they are immersed makes it all the more ..... LA LA LAND is MAGICAL
Along with a lovely night scene, I believe those iconic scenes that'll become legendary in the upcoming years, one cannot forget and feel something with those.
I'm just fascinated by this scene of the movie, ready to revise it again and again
Emma Stone
My aunt used to live in Paris
I remember, she used to come home and tell us these stories about being abroad
And I remember she told us that she jumped into the river once, barefoot
She smiled
Leapt, without looking
And tumbled into the Seine
The water was freezing
She spent a month sneezing
But said she would do it again
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we make
She captured a feeling
Sky with no ceiling
The sunset inside a frame
She lived in her liquor
And died with a flicker
I'll always remember the flame
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we make
She told me
"A bit of madness is key
To give us new colors to see
Who knows…
..where he leads us...
And that's why they need us!
Bevender Thiskellhoff so bring on the rebels the ripples from pebbles
The picture and points and plays
Here's to the fools who dream
Crazy as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that break
Here's to the mess
We make
I trace it all back
To then
Her and the snow and the Seine
Smiling through it
She said
She'd do it again
She is the best actress of every single year
Ok just hear me out- 2:46 is adorable bc you can tell she has a lisp and it's the best thing! (Not in a weird way)
Emma Stone is so powerful. She singlehandedly won the Best Picture Oscar.
She didn't though. Best picture went to Moonlight.
@@lul_9451 it’s a joke. When it was announced, they said *La La Land* won, using Emma Stones best actress win card. People like to joke that she was the first actress to win best picture because of it😂
Oh yeah! La La Land should've won best picture JUST because Emma was in it!
Great moment, but regardless, Oscars aren't ever won on performance. They're campaigned or pandered for.
I love Emma Stone's singing! Beautiful! ✨
There is something eerie and alien about her in this scene. Those eyes, the vulnerability in them....
Emma Stone is brilliant such talent Emma & Ryan ❤❤
I really love the choice to go with a long take here. it's just perfect!
SHE'S SO TALENTED I LOVE IT
This is the scene that won her her Oscar.
Here is where Emma won her Oscar.
I watched this scene in the theater and I crazy cried, and it was this very scene I said "HECKK YEA STONE'S WIPING Off all the awards, this season!" I was right! 💜✨📴😌
Flawless as always because it's Emma
Like Phil in Hercules said: "Dreams are for rookies". But I'd personally say you really shouldn't doubt yourself over things and keep on going with it even if you falter.
Here's to the ones who dream...
This song touched me
Crying while listening to this!
very, very beautiful scene.
I love this!😍😍😍
Yah try as I might this is something where I just can't seem to join the backlash - To me, "La La Land" is a lovely film and surely a highlight of 2016's movie crop. Its deserving of a lot of its accolades including, in my opinion, Stone for best actress. Its not the most transformative performance in recent memory, but it is an absolute star turn that emphasizes everything Stone brings to the screen, and even goes past that in some regards. Ryan Gosling is also pretty strong here in the kind of charismatic romantic lead he's perfectly cast for.
Mitchell Murray I’m glad I’m not the only one. Well said.
There's barely any backlash tho lol
Its a good movie, but moonlight is better
This scene alone locked Emma's Oscar win.
I love this clip😍
This song gets me everytime
Heart melting...
I couldn't stand Emma Stone before but this clip is starting to make me weep, listening to her gentle singing and it seems Jeremy was right to take a sin off.
Why couldn't u stand her?
@@therealdoge4760 Well for starters, it was to do with the fact she was jealous of Shailene sharing scenes with Andrew Garfield for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as she was supposed to play Mary Jane, and then she got booted off the project. Watching her onscreen however is no different. She looks over and smirks at something that things that aren't funny, sometimes too sarcastic and mumbles to herself in one interview. That was my reason.
@@samkresil6011 This a completely wrong assessment of Emma Stone as nothing in your response is remotely true.
@@aksharpatel2803 In films like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, she seems to show that.
@@samkresil6011 No she does not at all.
New found love for this movie
In my opinion, the people who win Oscars usually don’t deserve them. Emma Stone absolutely deserved it for this performance
True, City of Stars had Oscar-type music... but in terms of a WOW moment, *THIS* is the one... From 2:23 its pure magic!!!
I disagree. I thought City of Stars was the worst original song in the film. This song is pure magic from start to finish. Great performance before 2:23.
@@Kurt77777 The oscars think in a much broader sense i guess... City of stars with majors intertwined with minors.... a song of hope but mixed with melancholy and all that... But i would have LOVED for audition to win... Audition was the emotional climax of the movie... Emma Stone slays as always...
@@reginaphalange8879
The Audition song was certainly my favorite non-instrumental piece in the film. A relatively simple melody, albeit very nice, but the lyrics are so powerful and moving. I really don't care how the Academy votes. They didn't choose La La Land as best picture, and at the 2020 ceremony they totally snubbed the movie Rocketman.
I wish I had an aunt like that!
very nice
Emma molto brava
wow, fantastic song i think it speaks delegate of me

Unlike Ryan Gosling, she can sing. They needed to end up together.
Ryan can definantly sing, too
don't understand what being drunk falling into a river has to do with creativity or art
Some of the most creative people have difficulty fitting into society and that's what makes them special but can also make them depressed and seek solace elsewhere
Hated the manipulative final scenes...stay away
