I'm thinking of connecting to a Mac over an internet connection (I'm okay with setting up the VPN server & dynamic DNS account). The upload speed at the 'server' end is around 18mbps and the download speed at the 'client' end will be about 50mbps. With that in mind, is accessing screen sharing via a VNC client going to be 'laggy'?
This is working for me, but it is VERY slow. Going from a pc to any other pc using Microsoft Remote Desktop is nice and snappy. Accessing my Mac from a PC using VNC is painfully slow. The changes will appear on my local mac very quickly, but the screen redraw on my remote machine is about 5 seconds delayed. I can us Jump Desktop and it is very snappy. I realize they are using a different protocol (fluid), versus VNC or RDM. I am trying to get a way to work from home using a WIndows machine to control my Mac at work over my VPN tunnel. This works great to other windows machines on my network, but my Mac and VNC is too slow. I am trying to avoid the $8 monthly charge for Jump Desktop. Any ideas?
At 1:34 you mentioned that you are "on the same network." What would I have to do if on a different network? Does it matter? I have travel plans, and will need access to my home iMac. Please let me know!

You may have to take a look at your settings in the VNC client to determine who maintains control of the cursor. So I cannot say for certain this is getting messed up.
OK. When I turn on the button,, I do NOT see an IP address. All I see is vnp:// the name I've given to my Macbook Pro. As I don't want to risk messing things up, so I thought I'd better check first. Can I use this instead of an IP address? One other point, I tried to install UltraVCN on my Windows 10 PC and I got an message from my OS.
Yes, you can use your IP address. Are you using the same user account to are you're using to access the mac as you logon to the mac? The error message is telling you it doesn't recognize your credentials.
AS I explained above, I don't see an IP address when I follow the instructions given in the video. I downloaded UltraVCN but it would not install. I don't understand what you mean when you say my OS 'did not recognize my credentials'.

Yes, you would setup an smb share on your mac. Then you can access that share. You will still need macOS credentials to access that share and read and write permissions to the share.
The server is the IP address of the mac. The port is the equivalent port representing VNC. I simply used vnc://10.0.11.126..which the VNC client picked up. When you say it didn't work? I'm not sure what you actually mean...did you get an error message? are you using the password for your mac? Can you ping the windows computer from your mac and vice versa? So a myriad of possibilities.
I dont think you explained enough here, you didnt explain why you put in the ip address, or where the password is from, im a beginner so I dont know these things. For me ultravnc asks for "server: port" i dont know what that means so i have to google and try to find out. You could have been a bit more thorough
Instead of just asking me for the vnc password , it also wanted a username so it would not work. Might be just a bad client (realvnc). Will try another
Not necessarily, if you already have previous access to destination network from the outside such as using a remote-access VPN or site-to-site VPN you can do the same thing.

This is only part of that process. You would need to establish a VPN connection across the internet from one place to another. Then you can use this or a similar technique to gain remote access. So that is more than what we covered in the video.
If DNS is working on your network, you should be able to do that as your VNC://ronniemac. So to verify this. ping that name...if you have connectivity, you should be able to do what I've done on our network here.
Ultravnc may not be completely safe. Sophos didn't find any malware but it was just by virus total with 1 engine declaring it was malware. All other engines declaring it undetected. So there are other programs out there like tightVNC that could be used to be safer.
There are plenty of legitimate reasons for people, especially IT workers, to use remote desktop tools. Unfortunately, almost any technology can also be used in an illicit way.
VNC viewer uses less memory than Google Chrome.....So to save local horsepower, thanks to this, I'm remoting into a mac just for(more or less) google chrome.

We actually don't use a software, instead, we have a BlackMagic switcher in our studio that allows us to receive and record Ronnie's computer feed!

Use anydesk, it not going be the best but still the gpu aceleration is going to work fine

I would setup a VPN to your home from your computer. or use a paid product like splashtop.

I have the same issue bro, it doesn't show an IP address🤷🏾♂️
You can find your IP address in wifi preferences. I put that into the ultraVNC and it worked.
Would you be able to hear audio through this connection?
I'm not sure. I don't really ever do that. If it is there would be a setting in the VNC client that allows it to work that way.

I don’t see an IP address on my Mac when I click on screen sharing. It just gives me the name of my mac.
