I actually enjoy Maher as much as Ben Shapiro. Both have very consistent views. Even if they are different and both have views i can believe in and you can tell both believe in their views. I may not agree with Maher or Ben on all issues... but that is okay.
I can't agree simply because he has become excessively ignorant, to the point where half the time I'm just like "Dude, literally do any research before talking and start talking about the things when they happen not a month later." The word antiquated comes to mind.
Couple of years ago, Maher seemed to be right on board with most of the other leftoids. But recently he seems to have come to a realization or something. Now he's more or less a "classical liberal" (though he still has some dumb takes). But at the very least, I appreciate that he asks questions and calls out the leftist insanity. And is also willing to talk to people with differing views without devolving into idiotic name-calling and baseless accusations.
One of the reasons conservatives like Maher, he's a Libertarian(a rarity on the Left).
Very much expected Bill to be an A immediately. Do not agree with him on a lot of things but anyone willing to sit down and have a civilized discussion with anyone who disagrees with them is a decent person in my book.

I agree with your assessment of Barack Obama: He *could* have been a unifier. When he was at Harvard his tenure as editor of the Harvard Law Review was notable for his even-handedness concerning Conservative/Liberal issues, characterized by little, if any, polarization. But as President it was the opposite case. I believe he was corrupted by the conventions of Democrat Party politics into being the divisive, polarizing figure we see today. I know an old school democrat. He hates woke crap, hates social media, loves big government and big labor. He was astonished when I predicted rampant inflation two years ago and turned out to be right. He recently helped me hardwood my new house and we spent more time arguing over what the problem is and who's more likely to fix it, than actually putting down some flooring, but we both thoroughly enjoyed it and after four beers and some more arguing while walking the property parted as friends. It was a nice throwback to the good old days and a reminder that social media is cancer and should be wiped off the face of the earth, a sentiment we both agreed on. republicans are almost always against increasing the minimum wage, and free Medicaid. Also, Republicans voted against the stimulus check Joe Biden proposed while democrats voted yes for the one Trump proposed. You should re-evaluate who truly cares about people in your economic standing.

To say stimulus checks instigated inflation is extremely naive. Sure one could argue stimulus check may have contributed to inflation but it never instigated it. Inflation was and has always been an issue, as for instigating id argue the war on Ukraine is a much more direct causation of inflation.
Also let's say you were right, what should the alternative be have millions of Americans displaced from their homes, unable to pay for food or other basic necessities. They didn't give us a stimulus for no reason... it genuinely helped a lot of people (Hence the reason why mostly every single American used their stimulus on rent/food).
Also other countries integrated a much more robust stimulus check but seem to be doing much better then us
