Got Squat? Want Squat? In this video, Tim shows how to use your neck to improve your squat. You've got to experience this one to know this one. Give this a try and let me know!
Great tips in this video. Take notes folks “Moral excellence comes about as a result of habit. We become just by doing just acts, temperate by doing temperate acts, brave by doing brave acts.” - Aristotle
i had such bad upper thoracic excessive kyphosis that in a deep squat i got pain in the lower neck and upper thoracic region. a combination of cobra stretches and cervical retraction to extension stretches really helped improve it and now i can squat deep without a problem at all. i’ve been strengthening my neck and core too but the problem was there for years and it’s finally gone
I don’t know your overall movement level but have you tried hanging and/or overhead stretches like that? I love them for opening up my chest and getting thoracic mobility
Tim, I wondered what your opinion was on the neck bridges done by wrestlers? You've said that Matt Furey was an influence for you before, so I wondered how bridges fit into the Original Strength model. Love your videos.
I think neck bridges are great. They can fit quite well with OS. They stimulate the vestibular system and strengthen the neck quite well. They could play a huge role in injury prevention and concussion prevention.
@@OriginalStrengthSystem Nice! this is what I learned in a functional movement workshop this last weekend and I was amazed at the increase in range it "created" for most folks. I'm definitely going to be coaching this for bodyweight and moderate load squatting moving forward.
This exercise has changed my life!

Definitely felt easier after performing the two neck exercises. Thanks for another great video!
So awesome that you tried it!
Your place is nice and clean 👍🏻🙂

Excellent work again Tim! Any plans to do an in person workshop in Portland or Seattle this year?
We are actually trying to figure out how to do that! I should have more info in a few weeks.
Great, I will keep my fingers crossed!

@@OriginalStrengthSystem Thanks!
I think that’s my problem. I can deep squat all right but it is very uncomfortable.
Do you have any gentle exercises to strengthen the neck?
I’ve a whole playlist about head and neck control

Nice, what breath pattern do you like using for loaded squats ?
If loaded with “moderate” weight, I breathe in on the way down and breathe out as I rise up.

I think you found your voice-over voice
"In a World ..."
So you’re saying there’s a chance 😁
😂
You mentioned the diaphragm. How does the diaphragm effect squatting?
The diaphragm stabilizes the spine and keeps the center strong
My squat is fine but... it felt more comfortable after doing this. Hmmmm.
More comfortable is good!
A great video Mr. Anderson. I will let you know if it works. Boy, the She Hulk show really sucks. Unwatchable.
I’m struggling with it too
