Running the abomination as a human and keeping the transformation as a trump card works wonders for me. His stun and double-blight are super useful, especially with a plague doctor buddy. His self-heal means he can pseudo-tank and takes a big weight of the healer's shoulders, especially since said healer is usually the doctor who doesn't score big numbers. I rarely feel the need to transform, I only do it when im almost done and I keep the chain trinket that reduces stress to the party from tranforming by 25%. He is one of my favourite heroes tbh, I love his design and lore, poor guy is a kind soul, hated and tortured by the religious "good guys"...
If you only transform as a last resort, don't use the manacles. It's not worth wasting a trinket slot purely on somethinf that MIGHT happen. Manacles are for when you know your Abomination will be transforming a lot
"Beast's Bile isn't all that good of an ability" > blights 2 targets at once > 3 damage / 3 turns > lowers blight chance for either himself or a plague doctor to follow up with another blight Whatever you say
Beast's bile is okay, but it's nowhere near as good as the stun, so you never really use it over the stun. It lacks any instant damage which means it can't be used to finish off low creatures, the blight chance isn't high and Abom lacks any trinkets to increase blight chance, and the blight damage is very slight in comparison to plague doc Just run plague doc
Abomination is one of the most versatile characters. Able to stun, make Blight, heal itself, Push enemies, and multi hit the front. Also has decent dodge. Usually use his human form unless I need to really change the game style mid-dungeon.
Man. Imagine how cool a fight against the abomination as a boss would be. You have this weird humanoid enemy that stuns your team and heals himself, possibly relying on goons to protect him, and once you have dropped him to a certain health he goes batshit insane and turns into this huge monster that just nukes your team with it's damage and health. And if you fail to kill it in a certain time it goes back to it's human form and heals again

He talked a bit about it in his "How good is the Leper?" video, but I think the main problem that he finds with the Leper is his accuracy. He is statwise one of, if not the strongest, damage dealer purely from a dmg stat pov, but the accuracy means he isn't as consistent in dealing dmg as basically any other class. As he said in the Leper video, "it is better to have a character who can consistently deal some of dmg each turn, than an unreliable character that only hits some turns". Hope that helps a bit.

I honestly love using him as a tank in the second position (heavy boots recommended at a minimum) with a fast Antiquarian using the forced guard at the beginning of every round. He's a big stress sponge and can fight back comfortably while mitigating the damage from usually the first two ranks which is usually enough to tip the battle in your favour but... DD

Abomination is a solid choice for me. His manacles and bile make him great in the backline, and he can transform and jump in as a switch-hitter frontliner if he main tank needs a break. He doesn't even need to rely on a healer, absolution keeps him just enough in the fight that my primary bandaid can focus on other characters.

i have trinckets that allow me to have a 25% chance (45% with the highwayman) to get a virtue status when stress hit 100%, when i have a party with those items and is viable to use the abominattion, i tend to transform a LOT specially if i have the heroes virtue event
Found you a few months ago, I've loved and hated DD but I'm back and I'm loving it. I was just wandering, if you have a positive quirks that reduces stress from HUMANS and BEASTS will the quirks reduce the stress of the Abomination? Tried looking this up but couldn't find it anywhere.
In the game’s current state is dodge more viable? Or does the same go still to this day: that being high HP increases survivability over high dodge chance?
They are as short as is needed if you want a proper explanation of what makes a character strong or weak. You need to know the stats, the abilities (and which are best to use), how the character "works" on its own and with others, and thus a rating. It is well structured and covers everything necessary. Shorter would simply gloss over understanding potentially significant aspects. Sometimes learning requires time and application. Oh noes!
I'm not a long term player, but I feel like I'm allowed to give my own little thoughts. Honestly, I like using him with a Jester, Antiquarian/Plague Doctor, and a Man at Arms. Jester's team wide buffs allow me to constantly set up defenses with the MaA, or set up blight and stuns with Abom. The Antiquarian is mainly used for her ability to force protect someone, buffing my MaA or Abom, however she can be switched out for a more offensive Plague Doctor, which can help set up blight or finish off low health enemies in the front. TL;DR, Man at Arms is used defensively, the Abom builds up more damage or helps take out enemies while also sticking to the bulky side, Jester's main focus is to buff his party and himself, making him a potent mid- to late-fight damage dealer, and the Antiquarian/Plague Doctor support the the team by either buffing or debuffing. Honestly, it's more focused around the Jester, however, the Abom's role is not forgotten, and he can still put up a fight when he needs to. However, I do have another party. The Bounty Hunter, the Abom, the Occultist, and the Highwayman. This is more offensive, but it does shine when it comes to targeting a specific enemy. Because the BH and the Occult both have pulls, I can pull an annoying ranged enemy from the back straight to the front, as long as they don't resist. The Abom and Highwayman are way more damage focused, however the Abom still sits backline to the Highwayman. While the Occultist's heal isn't consistent, it's still there, and it's bleed doesn't proc as much as it could. These guys are more so focused on taking out bosses, instead of general enemies, but they still pack a punch.
It's funny, I ran an Abomination and a Leper together. It was glaring how the abominiation in his monster form did everything the Leper should be able to do but ten times better. I don't often see this comparison, but why on earth would you go Leper when the Abomination fills his role so much better. Every skill the Leper has, the Abomination has a much better answer for, AND he's a stunner class on top of that. Like whatehell, something went seriously wrong in ballancing.
Great stuff! It would be great to see you list your favorites from each of the four groups! Also there are workshop mods that remove the class restriction for Abomination for those that want to use him more! (Can agree that the class restrictions isn't a very imaginative way to hold back this beast)
Thanks for the video. The devs have stated that the religious restriction is going to be removed from the Abominations. Look it up, its going to be awesome when it happens.
I don't get how if you have 2 or more aboms in your party, one abom transforms and the other aboms still get stressed. Like how the fuck do you get stressed at that?
Plague doctor is better as a stunner and not being able to use a vestal in the party is a big detriment. And transform is not a good ability as it gives huge stress to the party.
It's a good ability with a downside to it, like pretty much every good thing in this game. Throw a Jester or Houndmaster in your party with the Abomination and go for medium or long dungeons so you can use stress healing abilities in camp. That'll make the stress from transforming negligible if you don't spam it against trash mobs.
Transform is amazing. It's an ace up your sleeve. You don't want to use it every battle, but if you do come across a dangerous enemy or party, you can transform and quickly DPS them down. The stress is negligible. The Abom can heal his own stress with his health and you won't be transforming that often. The Manacles and Bile are very good skills.
Lol I often run my party with occultists instead of vestals. You can always use a HM or Jester to remove stress, but even if you dont have one, stress damage from abominations are quite negligible anyways because almost every kill you get stress reduction. So you dont need much stress healing. I usually go with a high speed party with abominatons Occ/PD/AB/Hel You usually get to take out one backliner and a front liner in your 1st turn so no need for hp or stress healing.
"Stunning is what you're going to be doing 90 percent of the time." If by stunning, you mean using Rage to tear Rank 3's face off, then yes, I do a lot of stunning. =D Restraining Padlock for life.
I guess by the sole standard of "keeping a hero alive", HP> Dodge, but that is not the only criterion that factors into evaluating stats. How is one's actual playthrough as a whole from start to finish --- from being a beginner to progressing to an experienced player? The advantage of dodge is that it buys you time. The more often you take a turn to heal, the more it costs you progression. The more you will need to buy items to heal status because you have no dodge, the more it costs you gold. You can't outheal damage in this game, which is why stall strats are a thing. The longer the dungeon, the more it becomes imperative to avoid taking damage, or one is not moving forward efficiently. That progression should not be sacrificed to the goal of at all costs preventing hero death. I think it might be more accurate to say that dodge is the lifeblood of the beginner. The beginner has a lot of things to unlock, and very few resources. The more they unlock and more experience with the game they have, the more abundant their gold becomes, the more they can then afford to run HP over dodge.
If you had the option to pay money to bring a dead hero back to life with all equipment, skills, trinkets, and quirks intact, would you? No shit you would. You do have this option. You run HP over dodge.
It's a good character but the flexibility is bad, very bad. PD, OCC, Abo, Hel is a good party composition. You can stun all positions & double stun on the 1-2, 3-4. Quite strong party I would say. I would start the combat with double stun (PD, Hel) then abbysal artillery & rake or blight from abomination. The second turn a plague grenade & another abbysal artillery ends with anything in the back. It's not too strong against bosses but on normal maps it's a cakewalk if you have proper trinkets.
I just started DkstDugn and got an abomination. Hell yeah awesome frontliner second spot behind heavy some flanking from 3 and a plaque doc on 4. Its a mad house as long that abomination is either first or second spot. First spot I just spam the self heal(health and stress) its madness .
Good class review. I find myself hardly ever using these guys myself due to the drawbacks you point out. I think they should have designed the Vestal a bit better. The Vestal is too good at what she does.
The vestal is only exceptionally good because of the aoe heal. What we needed was a new class or classes that were able to compete with that in some way. Even if it was just a party-wide one hp heal on a class with different stuff it would be fairly viable.
Because of how the Death's Door mechanic works the Vestal is the best class in the game, period. But I would like to have another healer class that was just as good.
Dodge starts meaning something when there is light, in these videos he assumes there is no light. In Pitch Black the highest base dodge class has the bare minimum chance to dodge because of monster accuracy increase in the dark.
It was always funny to me that if you bring multiple Abominations, one transforming *still* stresses out the other.
VulpeRenard eh if you look at one of them they have this mood of 'why why me?' It'd be cool if the vestal could run with an abomination if they had the faithless quirk.
Take the occultist, his heal is really good and abomination doesnt bleed as often
Occultist heal, while strong, is inconsistent, and the whole point was that you can't have an aoe heal at all if the abomination is with the group.
I much prefer Occultist healing each of my hero's to full health every turn and have the Abomination in the team rather than the Vestal. To me you would really have to be incredibly unlucky for more than 2 hero's to be brought to death's door when they had full health in the same turn.
Being unlucky is exactly what kills you in this game, and that's why Vestal is far better than Occultist. Consitency.
A valid enough point, though I must confess I'm quite the gambler leading to my gameplay to be heavily chance based
So, basically, since The Color of Madness allows Vestal do party with the Abomination, it should be considered a Strong character.

Vestal: I hate to say that but we need to gang up with abomination.
How quickly the tide turned!
i have trinckets that allow me to have a 25% chance (45% with the highwayman) to get a virtue status when stress hit 100%, when i have a party with those items and is viable to use the abominattion, i tend to transform a LOT specially if i have the heroes virtue event
Hey any chance you could redo this? i just read the patch notes and they made it possible to team with religious heroes
Great video! I Just started playing and I was looking for a guide like this. Great work man!
I’m curious about the ability ‘Rage’. Is there a reason to use it over repeatedly stacking ‘Rake’? Love to hear peoples thoughts
Nice video, a lot of useful information and little tips for improve my gameplay. Keep it up!
Nope
Very informative. Ever think about doing workshop classes after you're done with vanilla ones?
I don't think he ever plays with content altering mods.
he doesnt play with modded classes
Damn nice DD videos, i learned so much. Keep up the good work.
In the game’s current state is dodge more viable? Or does the same go still to this day: that being high HP increases survivability over high dodge chance?
You didn't talk about Rage and Slam at all
these “how strong is the ..“ videos are a good idea. but make them shorter and more structured
udolf seelenfrost I agree
udolf seelenfrost I agree
Agreed. Good content, but I don't wanna spend like hours and hours working through all your content.
Filthy doesn't do short.
Oh noes!
So you said what made his team composition bad. What are some ways around that? What group compositions do you like to use with abominations?
Like whatehell, something went seriously wrong in ballancing.
these are really cool. looking forward to the rest.
Excellent review.can you share your excel sheet ?
Just picked up this game over the thanksgiving weekend on steam sale, loving it and found your vids awesome
16:41 skipp the kri... oh wait
Great stuff! It would be great to see you list your favorites from each of the four groups!
Also there are workshop mods that remove the class restriction for Abomination for those that want to use him more! (Can agree that the class restrictions isn't a very imaginative way to hold back this beast)
It's super easy to edit out, take about 2 seconds to remove that restriction if you want to do.
I like my front line vestal too much to run an abomination.
Why many people say to transform in every battle with him?
nice. hopefully we get a tier list for heros and for items.
would love to see the flaggelent, especially with the hidden stress and virtue buffs
Thanks for the video. The devs have stated that the religious restriction is going to be removed from the Abominations. Look it up, its going to be awesome when it happens.
I love the Abomination, very interesting hero.
Anyone else feel like it's weird that when not transformed he has to be rank 2-3 but when transformed he wants rate 1-2
Nice video, good explanations.
This review needs a rework, since abomination can now run with a vestal
Don't you think that made the abom a little less interesting?
I used to value Abom very poorly before watching your video, I'll try and give him a shot.
I was hoping that you could do occultist and vestal, one after another so we can get a comparison of the two main healers.
What is the best fomation for the abomination guys ? I'm new with this game
I really like BEast bile in the Cove.
It melts the enemies there really quickly.
Did you not go into Rage and Slam intentionally due to lack of usefulness?
I don't get how if you have 2 or more aboms in your party, one abom transforms and the other aboms still get stressed. Like how the fuck do you get stressed at that?
laughs in colour of madness
Can you do a video on the flagelant?
I did?
I knew this class was awesome! I called it as soon as I saw him in my stage coach.
Yeah, especially seeing as he has no stress-heal and doesn't reduce stress when turning back to normal >_>
I usually go with a high speed party with abominatons
Occ/PD/AB/Hel
You usually get to take out one backliner and a front liner in your 1st turn so no need for hp or stress healing.
So basically
abomination = stunbot
?
For the most part, yeah.
"hit the desk door" -Filthyrobot 2017
"Stunning is what you're going to be doing 90 percent of the time."
If by stunning, you mean using Rage to tear Rank 3's face off, then yes, I do a lot of stunning. =D
Restraining Padlock for life.
is he wearing his siberias without the earpads?
The content in your vid makes you look like very smart!
Liked it
That's what this channel is about, making me look smart
Abomination can go with vastle I always do that . Why did he say we can’t do it???
Abomination couldnt in the past, they changed that in a patch after this video was made
ny hellion died yesterdat because i had no good ranged dps
Fucking love this game, Ive played this game more than any other game with the obvious exception of Dawn of War II
You sure the HP number is correct? 46 on my level 6 Abom with no Trinkets and HP-related Quirk.
For the religious aspect. Does that mean he can go with a faithless vestal? But can't go with a god fearing occultist?
I actually really like Dodge because of the opposite most of my heros have died because of damage stacking over time when I didn't have a healer
Dodge starts meaning something when there is light, in these videos he assumes there is no light. In Pitch Black the highest base dodge class has the bare minimum chance to dodge because of monster accuracy increase in the dark.
You can take the vestal with the abon, why does he say he cant?
because patches ago abomination could not team up with pious characters (the four ones he quoted : vestal, flagellant, crusader and leper)
how about bring him and the man at arms and buff the crap out of him, ohhh, so neat. Vs the 12 pound cannon and just raking trough everything.
This video: Don't use werewolf form on the werewolf, just stun because reasons
i know you don't answer comments, but 4 abominations completely breaks the game, its truly overpowered.
Have fun with all that stress though.
Abom x3 and a Puppymaster?
Abom in rank 4 is pretty f***in useless.
I don't use the abomination because he's not compatible with a lot of characters
Religious characters with Faithless should be able to run with abomination.
Cuz ya know ima good player, I have a level 4 abomination from level 0 who has still not transformed. :p He's still almost works.
awesome guide
looking forward to these
