Far too long (like my posts allegedly :)) but it whizzed by to be fair and I’m especially enjoying the insights into upcoming opponents from very sensible supporters of those clubs. Just as much enjoyment to be had from the quiet “phallic objects” competition you all seem to be having. Tim’s telescope; Liam’s throbbing blue thing and Pollards ribbed dildo of a microphone. Have done odd bits of TV and radio over the years so we all know that size doesn’t matter and directionality is everything :) Put them away eh lads. Don’t really get the empty seats business. The fan zone charge is clearly unsustainable but it hasn’t caused any lowering of numbers in the Fourth Wall until the weekend after a weeks of snow and rain storms, which culminated in significant public transport issues for all sorts of fans trying to get to the game. Multiple trains simply cancelled from all over the UK. When it happens for more than one game there may be something to address but right now I’m not seeing it. The match was indeed night and day compared to Stockport but I didn’t see any of the changes as being especially left field. Scarr - was simply incapable of clearing the ball to feet or bringing it out against Stockport. Like in the Pearson days the ball kept on coming straight back and it was not a coincidence. O’Connor - amazed he’s lasted so long. He’s far too slow for that position as I’ve been saying all season and far too laconic and careless with his ball control. For a guy who can play exquisite passes when playing as an attacking midfielder his constant half arsed hoofs from left back are sub standard and last weekend he was constantly ripped a new one by a player older and allegedly slower than him. Rathbone - was always coming in for Cannon given the suspension and other injuries and Dobson, despite getting worse by the week, is apparently as undroppable as McClean so Lee was either a sub or up front. A position I first suggested we should try him in when we were in the National League. It won’t work every time but it worked beautifully against Exeter. Lee could find attacking space with none of the responsibility of having to cover for midfield colleagues who currently chase shadows and little else. I’m no fan of his set pieces (and remain bewildered as to why we’re not even trying Barney on set pieces) but those corners bar one were as near as danmit perfect. Would be upset to be an Exeter fan who learned that we’d essentially constructed three new units for that game. Defence let too many crosses come in but Brunt was MOTM by some distance for me. His bringing the ball out on the floor and driving into space mirrored Max and gave us a balance and drive we’ve not had since non-league. All three defenders brought the ball out to feet and then got it wide. The midfield was effectively bypassed again but on the floor instead of in the sky. Dobson was again poor and did nothing but find space that nobody wanted him in or chase shadows. Rathbone was the same first half for me but second half I thought he did one or two good things. Certainly not MOTM. James - the other contender for MOTM. We’re quite derogatory about players who do the simple things well. Is that because we’ve been led to believe that McClean on his wrong foot; Dobson executing the Green Cross Code before choosing the wrong pass and Lee wanting to beat a man twice before he attacks space are normal things when they’re not really. James was calmness personified and he played the passes we all saw but rarely see executed painlessly. I wasn’t excited by his signing and I doubt he can do two games a week talking to fans of his previous teams, but, him and Brunt did more to make us play good football in that game than Dobson has done all season. He was excellent. Barney - yes the cross was good but it wasn’t even near the standard of other crosses he’s put in this season. This was on a plate for him and he put it on a plate for Ollie. Other balls he’s got in this season without even beating the last man have been breathtaking. Palmer goal has to be a contender for goal of the season though. Great stuff.
12:51 Completely agree with Tim, as an international member having just Kop tickets available sucks, I personally don't like siting behind the goal and on top of that there is no rain protection. With that being said I will continue to purchase the membership, the stickers and membership card are cute and maybe we get some better seat allocation next year.
Anyone else think Arthur will have to compete to he this spot back. Burton is such a strong keeper. This is the 2nd game running there’s been the temp Kop void. I think it’s time for a rethink. I think they need to increase the temp Kop ticket price to match the tech end and make the Fanzone something for everyone.
100%. Having healthy competition for starting places is so important. Players shouldn’t just get picked on reputation. I think Arthur will eventually reclaim the number 1 spot but if Burton keeps playing this well he deserves to keep starting until he has a bad run.
Not sure if there's ever been a pro athlete - in any sport - that I've had a harder time deciding how I feel about than Ollie Palmer. Even in this one podcast there's a story about him being a first class knob and another story that has to be one of the nicest things I've ever heard a player do (esp as it seems completely without any PR or even requested by the club). Is he the elusive dickhead with a heart of gold?
Anybody that thinks Elliot is threatened by Rathbone is mental. And he was hot about Ollie messing up that goal. He's had a couple of scoring opportunities over the past 4 games messed up by a lack of heads up team plays. Frankly, Mulls has suffered the same lack of assists at times. Team needs to get it fixed. I like the playing of James and Brunt because I think those two understand the beauty of an extra pass.
I've been to the fanzone several times this season with the wife & kids. The consensus is that it's great for a first exp or for kids. However, it lacks the appeal for Adults to return. Maesgywn, Turf, etc, offer those familar surroundings for Adults (only) to congregate. The percentage that the fanzone covers in the temp stand needs to be reduced to only the two sections too. Creeping into the other sections really irritates the fans fighting over regular seating who ultimately want to be their to support the team. That weather last year would have never been an issue last season for the temp to be at max capacity. Tim highlighted a £5 charge instead of £10, which might move the needle, worth a try...
The crest should be changed. Or at least remove the symbols that celebrated English supremacy, Welsh subservience, the offensive phrase, and feathers. etc.
Hey guys it’s Phil Robbie the third here from Arizona’s no 1 fan/vlog group! We here in The Double Down Saloon Bar we’re discussing about how we can get Southport County the hell away from stalking us man. We came up with the idea of buying their top player Louis Berry and put him in our second team! The boys could easily afford him and although he’s not ever gonna be as good as Super Paul Mullin we could use him as a break for anyone when we’re over 5 to zero up. C’mon guys….dig deep for the cause… you know you can afford it! There’s 4 of us now as Joey Rickenbaker got over excited whilst celebrating the awesome 3 to zero win yesterday and accidentally shot himself in the foot, so he’ll be out of the game until maybe next season..!
Sorry to hear about Joey. Being named after Lemmy's favourite bass manufacturer should see him overcome his unfortunate rootin' tootin' injury. Darn it.
@ I’ll pass on your message…thanks guys, perhaps you could arrange a fly past and maybe a 10 minute round of applause to commemorate Joey’s foot? It sure would be appreciated! He’s not a Motörhead fan but loves The Mentors…less said the better by the way.
@ AWESOME about the applause but how come Southport County could afford 2 goddamn flyovers ??!! I’m sure a small portion of ‘Deadpool’s’ funds could arrange something.
Do we trust Steve Dale? I do not. He does not win the tough games. I am think we need to move on to a better manager for the women because they deserve better.
I don’t see how you judge at this point. The team has moved from amateur to semi-pro and achieved promotion and a profile in a very short time. Steve has credit in the bank on all those fronts as there’s a lot more to it than just picking a team each week. To expect them to win games against teams from major Welsh cities who are far more established, and have more money, at this point is ridiculous. It should absolutely be the ambition, and I’m sure it is, but this team needs at least another season before they get anywhere near and changing the manager in this period will destabilise a pretty sensible development speed. I suspect he’s not the long term solution. He looks very uncomfortable in front of a camera and doesn’t sound especially inspirational but this is certainly not the moment for a change.
Does anyone else think it’s crazy that Parky started Lee over Mullins? Does anyone know why Lee was throwing a temper tantrum after getting subbed out??
Thank you for the kind words guys! Ben here - really enjoyed coming on, we'll have to see if we can find the fan to return that scarf Tim!
Tim, your Lincoln story was so beautiful and touching!

Really valid point from Tim as ever about levels, made me rethink my original thoughts

Thanks Dave! :)
Credit to PP for making the changes. Brunt was excellent. If we add a quality striker in Jan we have a good chance of good up again.
