    Elliott doesn't need to be a flair player Tim? Strange comment tbh. He plays on the opposite side to Barney, so don't understand that comment at all. Lee is cruising at the moment, fortunate in my opinion to be keeping his place, resting on past performances. He needs to improve or there are others in the squad who deserve an opportunity. McClean can come inside allowing a flair player like Revan to come and play out wide. He certainly deserves a chance.

    Anyone wanting to know the exact reasons why Flynn dislikes Andy Marriott need only do one of two things. Either: - ask him when he’s alone. He’ll happily tell you in great detail. Marriott does not come out of it well on an astonishing number of fronts. The example given of the Sky fund was an easy tell but the tip of a very big iceberg. - ask at the small hotel he now stays at when Flynn is in Wrexham. The owner will also happily tell you that and a whole lot more at great length.

    The down side of the whole day for me was once again having an Adult Disability ticket several rows behind the wheelchair platform only to see seats in front occupied by people who arrived late; didn’t care about where they were and thought standing was just fine. Second half a small kid (6-8 at most) came and stood on the seat in front of me and blocked the view of 3 of us. Wholly unnecessary as the steep camber meant he could have sat and had a clear view. I’ve had enough of this crap at away games this season so politely asked him if he could sit down and explained why. His Mum, two rows in front, erupted and dished out dogs abuse at length. Barely shut up when I held up my white cane and the bloke two seats along from the kid held up his crutch and joined in. What we then presume was her bloke, who was several seats along from the kid, then joined in and clearly wanted to fight it out there and then. The level of abuse and threat was just way out of line and I wish I’d had the chance to thank the bloke next to me who laid into him verbally and told him to STFU and watch the game and let others do the same (repeatedly) until it finally sank in. Even the kids Mum told her bloke to shut up as he was embarrassing her. Bloke next to me also kindly alerted Rotherham stewards who were on their way up to have a word until it calmed down and appeared to be indicating they’d detain him on the way out. Interestingly Rotherham’s DLO says the issue is that WE need to tell Ticketmaster to reserve Adult Disabled and Companion tickets for first and second rows to avoid this happening. It’s an issue I’ll be raising with our club as it’s been an issue at Sheffield United, Bolton, Birmingham and now Rotherham just as it was with the likes of Tomi standing in front of wheelchair users at Accrington last season. Tim is absolutely right that you should just be able to ask someone to politely sit down and explain why and it should just happen. This is what the reality looks like. I had to be escorted out by my offspring; a steward who had been paying attention and two people who sit with us in the Macron as the guy was going after me post match sight loss and cane regardless. It would be really great to go to an away game and just watch the damn game. It really would. In this context, very disappointing to see the FiD Twitter account put out “Few labradors and white sticks in with some of the home fans today.” Just adds to the whole negative feeling around being a disabled fan.

  • @mikehughescq
    @mikehughescq 2 дні тому

    Rotherham was a cracking day (on the whole - see below*) out but I’m surprised no-one commented on the stadium. Scale something like that up to 25/30,000 and I’d have it all day long. Really nice to see a new ish build with something resembling character and atmosphere. A few omissions in terms of comments on players: - All players try and often succeed in buying fouls. A special word for number 8, Nombe, who literally did nothing else but for 98 minutes. - Palmer was excellent but it’s possibly just as important to note that Fletcher came on; walked around and did nothing. Rotherham moved us left and right for 98 minutes and we had several players dead on their feet with 20 to go. Bringing Fletcher on effectively left us also playing with 10 men. Given he’d just had a week off that was an awful cameo and suggests both that he should never start and that his time with us is done. - the Barney cross was the equal of that first against Northampton but if I were to give him credit for anything on Saturday, especially second half, it would be his defensive work. He was never out of position; got multiple blocks in and made a major contribution to us keeping shape and keeping the number of crosses down. Still needs to work on far post tracking at set pieces but his open play defending was very impressive. - Mullin might have been dead on his feet for the last 20 but the context for that is that he mostly walked around for the preceding 70 and is clearly still well off full match fitness for all his talk of finally feeling himself. I struggle to see why him and Palmer don’t start on Tuesday. If I were to make s change it would be Revan or Mendy for McClean. 160th - player I’d like to see again? Trundle every time. Drink with? Emad.

    Fills my heart with joy every time THAT goal gets mentioned. It will remain my favourite Wrexham goal ever. I can always remember the bloke next to me and his weekly “Carlos can’t defend” refrain finally being silenced by Carlos run back to win the ball. As the ball then pinged across the pitch to Trundle my mate calmly pointing at Morrell and saying “Look at that run. He’s going to go near post.” at the point he’d barely crossed the halfway line. It remains a magnificent goal. People can rave all they want about spectacular shots but nothing beats a team goal where you can see each bit unfolding in front of you and you’re mentally thinking “If he could just…” each time and then each of them did. Controversial view perhaps but Danny Ward isn’t playing regularly because he’s not good enough in key aspects of the game and never appears to have put the work in to fix that.

      Just to add, the Danny Ward debate is a non-starter, up to the player tbh. £40k a week, no-one is going to move away for less, he could break his leg next week etc. Gareth Bale didn't need the money for the last 2-3 years of his Madrid contract and yet stayed. Same argument was that he should have moved to a club for regular football but clearly getting paid too much to turn it down even though he was a multi millionaire. The Welsh team certainly didn't suffer because of that decision. If Ward is good enough is another question and argument.

      Agree with McClean in the middle (if anywhere at all) but not for Lee. Lee has been better this season than last albeit less showy. @@davidwilliams7220 “the consensus”. ROFL. You canvassed us all did you? Not my “consensus” or that of anyone near me. And yeah, have made every home game and all bar Orient way. People have different views on everything. That’s life. I’m no fan of Lee but last season when he was scoring for fun he played poorly in all bar 2 games. This season, when given the ball, which is not often, he’s been better than last. Not great or stupendous but definitely fine. He’s not a ball winner and likes tight space far too much for his own good but, to my surprise, I find that I’d rather him in than out at present. You maybe need to watch Dobson a lot closer. Has had at least 3 absolutely awful performances and in most other games he’s put in 45 of good tackles or good passes but never both. A player purchased to keep us in the division comfortably rather than get us out of it. A placeholder at best. Not saying Lee would survive in the Championship. I think he’s well past that. In this division he’s a match winner. Yet to see that from Dobson. Mostly Jay Harris lite.

      @@mikehughescq never said dobbo would get us out of the division but we look a lot more solid defensively, think in some respects Elliott is a victim of his own goal scoring prowess, but he is definitely off his game, still a million times better than Palmer but not Lee of the past 2 years.

    Just curious - is the DSA connected to the WST? I haven't seen anything from them in quite a while either.

    Very informative except for Brunt comments. The man has long neck and can't help it. If it was a positive comment about his lethal kicks or speed like the animal ,i could embrace it as a nickname. Just saying.

    Very enjoyable game but Barney should have topped it off with a goal rather than allowing Fletcher to mess it up. Worth noting that we offered nothing down the left once again for a team with two wing backs. Two goals and an assist from McClean do not a wing back make let alone “proving his doubters wrong”. He otherwise was his usual sideways/backwards self and once again repeatedly left O’Connor exposed. Great stuff from Barney but not “career defining” for me. He was up against a team not bright enough to double up against him and it was the early balls from Dobson and Barney’s interplay with Cannon which opened them up repeatedly. When he does the same away then we can talk about career defining and Carlos. Feel sorry for Lee. In the NL he could run a game. Struggled to do that in L2 and it’s obvious now that Dobson has been instructed to get the ball wide as often as possible. Lee is as easily closed down as he was last season but when Dobson or Cannon do give him the ball I do think he’s been more effective this season than last. Having been unimpressed by Scarr and Brunt at Sheffield I was impressed by both here. The only issue is that O’Connell is so obviously weaker on the right than in the centre and the chances Northampton had largely came from the gap between Scarr and O’Connell. Never illustrated better than for their goal which was the worst I’ve seen us concede for some time. Scorer pulled out of the pack as O’Connell was dragged and held. Very poor basic stuff. I don’t agree with Tim that Arthur’s saves were for the camera. The second especially he had to make. That was going in. EDIT: Don’t really get the atmosphere stuff on any level. Crawley was tense as we performed poorly. Northampton was far better as was the performance. Sound doesn’t distribute around a stadium evenly when every side of the stadium is different so what you hear is largely representative of just what you hear. Centre of the Macron we get loads from the Tech End; the occasional sense of stuff happening to our left in our stand; little from the right of us; surprisingly little from the Yale/Wrexham Lager and can occasionally hear the Fourth Wall. Having sat in at least two of those three other locations I’m aware they’re often making way more racket than I can hear now and, when in the Yale, we were convinced the Mold Road were wholly silent. It’s also incomprehensible that we’d have the same atmosphere game after game. Why? It’s not about numbers. Every 13,000 crowd is not the same people. Is every gig you go to the same? People react to what they see.

    Re a Jack Marriott song, the rhythm of his name makes it tricky. The only song I could think of was “We are the champions”: He is Jack Marriott, my friend, and he’ll keep on fighting til the end. He is Jack Marriott, striker Jack Marriott, no time for losing ‘cause he is Jack Marriott… of the Town.

    Love the pod guys. Great work. Head bobs and a all 😂. Gotta get Barnett under contract now. Mulls will be back when he's fit. In the meantime Marriott and Lee and filling the gap. We will need him back in full form by January. Is there way we can get Revan on the pitch for away games with Lee? With him and Lee on the left and Barnett on the right we xan open uo the attack, yes?

    Does Marriott have a song? He always looks so genuinely happy when he scores, and after his kind of rough last season I feel like he would be really delighted to get a song. And if his form keeps up there would be plenty of opportunity to sing it
