We need a campaign !! Don’t just make it free to play 😭 that was the whole fun of the skate series. Custom characters creating our own story was a big thing for the game. Re visit that idea of free to play please
@@bruhmomentum6315 EA making a free to play game means being able to do a lot but missing a lot because you need to pay extra for it, Like Apex. Skate 3 however, only had some DLC's, like clothing, and a couple maps, this is going to be ONLY multiplayer, NO offline, and there is 100% going to be a battle pass. They could have just stayed with the skae 3 engine and built up from there, they decided to make their game as money hungry as possible, for no reason, like at all
I hope this game isn't going to be online only. I loved the single player of skate 3 and once this game falls off in the far future, and they inevitably have to stop supporting it online, I hope to be able to come back to the game and still play it in some form. That's my greatest concern for modern games. If they don't have a good offline mode, the game is going to die out eventually and then nobody will be able to play it in the future. Other than that concern, I am very hyped for this game and I can't wait to play it when it comes out.
Why would anyone trust an unproven studio being managed so poorly because of WFH policies that upper ea management decided to push the game to F2P and port it (or worse target it) to mobile?
@@Nothinglastsforever It's more likely that the only thing that got EA to approve their pitch was that it could potentially be a free to play cash cow like fortnite. Remember EA sat on the Skate IP for an entire decade doing absolutely nothing with it, most likely passing on various proposed entries in the series during that time.
@@Nothinglastsforever being an “unproven” studio means nothing when several of the people in charge of the project at Full Circle are veterans who have worked on every skate game.
Been a huge fan since the og Skate and have searched for skate 4 updates consistently for the past 12 years. I was so intensely excited about the actual announcement of this game’s development in 2020. I’ve kept track of all the updates & leaks. I hate to be negative as I’ve wanted this game for so long but maaaan, what a huge disappointment about the free to play. I can’t think of any person in the community that’s wanted Skate 4 to be a multiplayer only, free to play game with micro transactions. I really hope that they listen to the community. Judging by the rest of the comments, I’m sure the majority of us skateboarders and fans of the franchise have desperately wanted the single player experience we had before. I really hope they listen to our feedback and make multiplayer an option rather than the only way to play the game
same here dude. i have a google alert about skate 4 and over the past year or so, every time something new comes up i've gotten giddy like a little kid. i've wanted this for such a long time. it's a huge gut-punch to see the rumors turn out to be true - the fucking game is free to play. what a massive disappointment.
@@olliebert2788 I agree it’s all about creating an endless experience and trying to make addicted people keep spending their money on skins and any micro transaction they can throw at them. There is nothing drawing them to spend money and resources to develop a story and build characters to people who can put the controller down. It’s obvious greed from EA.
This makes me really nervous. My best memories of skate 1-3 was playing single player and just casually creating lines. I'm excited that "Skate." is a thing but free to play and microtransactions just took a massive wind out of my sails. Really hoping you guys do this right and allow people to either play offline or in their own personal world without other people acting like idiots everywhere.
100% agree online can be really annoying and filled with trolls that are super annoying. Playing single player is the best to feel free and create anything you want.
Honestly as long as the micro transactions don't lock tricks away I'm cool with it. If they're gonna be charging money for decks and clothes though they better have some sick stuff, I wanna skate the same board I skate irl in skate 4 if they're charging
@@matthewrehfeldt7937 This. I can understand some of the community's trepidation, but I'm also happy that we're getting some form of 4th iteration of the series, on PC too. The other three games are there and will always be there to pick up to some degree, so if there something in the new game fans don't fuck with, I won't knock them, but as long as F2P doesn't mess with me skating on the same rail for an hour like I do in SkaterXL, then I'm not worried inm the slightest.
I'm going to be honest, I'm scared to see this game to be a free to play game for a couple of reasons like: "will it be online only?" or "will all of the clothing be paid separately?", etc. I wish them the best and I hope they don't fuck this up.
I think boards, trucks, wheels, clothes will be unlockable through play. But there could be an option to just pay for those who don’t want to grind. I predict a campaign and then a online kind of like GTA 5 online but for skating.
Something that worry’s me is how free to play games are designed to be as addictive as possible. They’ll release seasons with cosmetic that will can only be obtained during that season so you feel like you have to keep playing to unlock them or you miss out instead of playing a game whenever you want. The game doesn’t even need to be free to play. Ubisofts Riders Republic does this and I think sea of thieves also and they are both fully paid games.
@@wizard932 yeah but its gonna be like gta story mode where they have some cool things but all the crazy cooler stuff will be locked for only online players which will suck cause i like playing skate solo idc about online
If we're all being honest, 95% of us want an offline free roam mode, and a rather large percent of us want a story mode like skate 3, we miss Coach Frank.
The worst thing, is that if this flops, EA will just act like nobody wants skate games anymore, instead of admitting that the F2P model and MTX are the reason for the flop.
I doubt it, Just read the comments they've put in the video, they're listening. I don't doubt in 2-3 years you will be able to hop into "Skate." and be able to ride a scooter, BMX, or even rollerblades if we asked for it....
10000%! haven’t seen much people talk about single player I love multiplayer but I fell in love with skate because of how cool the story mode was in the first game, they nailed it..with the intro video , getting sponsored, then the pro challenges! I remember I wanted the Nikes P-ROD was wearing but I couldn’t beat his pro challenge but eventually got better at the game then beat it and it was super rewarding! I really hope they focus on elements like this and not hone in too much on being able to do flips n stuff!
The whole idea of “free to play” just killed the hype for me completely. We don’t need another game full of in game purchases . Also we need a campaign. We need the good old feeling skate games. I hope they don’t change this game into something that doesn’t even feel like skate.
@@karande75 They were actual DLC maps not decks, trucks, shirts, hairstyles, pants, etc. Its differemt because Skate 3 in game purchases were actual content.
well it sounds like the gameplay devs care, and it looks like the gameplay experience is getting there so I think the moment to moment experience will probably be pretty good.
honestly the free to play/micro transaction model thing is my worst nightmare for this game, i don't wanna have to pay real money for an in-game pair of Vans, or a board. the idea of overpriced cosmetic micro transactions especially hurts in this game cuz fashion and self expression is such a huge part of skateboarding culture that i don't want to be missing. we've been waiting like 12 years for this game, please don't mess it up...
They say their big thing is to not fuck it up but i mean they already fucked it up and all this community nonsense might as well be thrown out the window they should know that we don’t want none of that shit
@@subman4594 lmaoo this comment honestly puts everyone’s thoughts together perfectly - why even bring up “community” and “what we want” when they know damn well we don’t want this shit

hate to break it to you bud but this is EA, They have gone to the dark side and they dont care what us gamers think. This is the new era of gaming where everything is now locked behind a paywall and the "its free to play" excuse is used as a reason to sell us everything that we would have got if the game was full price. This is exactly why over 80% of the games I play now are all indie games. AAA games dont excite me at all anymore in the slightest.
they are going to fuck it up, name one ea game in the 5 years they haven't made into microtransaction filled pay to win mess, the only saving grace is it's skateboarding, not a looter shooter or battle royale, in order to pull their normal shit they have make it competitive alot of people aren't going to care about that, i could easily play by myself and not care about any of that, that leaves cosmetics, as long as you have free options you can earn that still look good i don't care, but it needs an offline mode or at least the ability to create local servers and the ability to mod
WE WANT A GOOD STORY MODE! I love playing the old skate games cuz it made me feel like a skater going thru all the journey to get sponsors, turn pro, and meeting other pros and doing ads for mags and stuff. since Skate gon be free to play yall should add story mode as a dlc and i wouldnt mind but just please have a good story mode
@@catethps Well, your leaked build does not have the monetization in it - In fact, I'm guessing the monetization is going to ACTUALLY kick in a couple weeks or more after launch so they can get positive reviews out before they start ripping people off. Yay - They have some semblance of a single-player. At the end of the day, we all know it's going to work its way back to multiplayer and point to your wallet at some point, and the question is whether or not you even want to invest yourself 'til that inevitably happens...
This being f2p will kill customization, if i have to spend $20 for a board, a shirt, and shoes without a lot of free and earned through play cosmetics its going to kill me. Its going to honestly hurt the spirit of expression that skateboarding is all about. Its a video game, not real life. But it being f2p also allows more people to get into skateboarding, like the tony hawk games and skate did when i was a kid Edit: another issue being f2p is that you can only own it digitally so if they end the game and you delete it you cant ever redownload or play it again because they’ll pull the plug. Id rather pay $60 and have a physical disc to play it, that’s how games like this should be. That goes for almost ever sports games like this or the ea has.
Now it’s really gonna show if the whole “community feedback” thing was just a gimmick or not. I think the people who are here from day one (I mean skate 1 by that) would much prefer to pay for a full price game compared to a sketchy FTP system.
I didn’t wait 12 years just to play skate in the Metaverse. Don’t really care that much about playing with others, sometimes it’s cool as an option but for the whole game to be based on an multiplayer experience is wack. An offline story mode with free roam has always been amazing when it comes to these Skate games. Wouldn’t mind if they just remastered the first ones.
@@zooted5443 but that isn't what everyone inherently wants. just because it's the dominant format for games nowadays doesn't mean that it's better or acceptable. while I fully understand why they are going this route, it's sad that they haven't said anything suggesting that there is going to be a single player experience. not to mention the fact that not everyone has access to great internet connection, so if there's no solo experience then they're missing out on a large chunk of players.
@@zooted5443 I don’t mind playing with the homies here and there, but at its roots this game was story mode eccentric with free roam. One of my favorite aspects about the older Skate games was taking time to do challenges to unlock clothing. It was always a rewarding experience. Making this game F2P is gonna ruin any sort of aspect of that. You say you're gonna listen to your fans but the game hasn't even come out yet and 90% of the community is disappointed. I'll happily pay $60 for a full game instead of a demo.
you can still do challenges to unlock stuff, you earn in-game currency for playing the game normally and beating challenges which you can use for clothes/objects
7:44 No paid loot boxes. May be an item shop or battlepass type system which does suck but It's EA at the end of the day you can't expect them not to do that
the creative director made it pretty clear that this game has nothing to do with previous skate games. and basically every game coming out from now on is going to be a live service game. if you like the content from the old skate games then go play it. this is the new standard model of video games.
They need more consistent flow of money than just for the copy of the game. I think that the decision to make the game free to play is the best for a longevity of the game.
I dont care if it adds years to the game, but there absolutely needs to be singleplayer. if you want people playing for years to come like you said, single player is a necessity!
Yo don’t know if you seen it but the pre alpha was leaked I recommend watching a video of it or download it for yourself. There is single player and I’m pretty sure there is going to be a story. I hate saying this but the info shared in this along with what was left unmentioned has left a huge dent on my excitement for this game. F2P model is extremely worrying. Micro transactions are very concerning considering EA is behind this. Idk. Cautiously optimistic but no longer fully convinced this won’t turn out disappointing to some extent. This isn’t madden or fifa or a pay to win game made by EA, the only things that will cost money are cosmetics like decks and skins. They’re planning on making this the last skate game but keeping it going and updated, kinda like Minecraft. In order to do that they have to make money off it. I’m perfectly fine with paying for non game altering cosmetics because it will help keep the game running. This isn’t ultimate team where you have to pay money to be good, it’s skate. Your gonna have the same experience as everyone else whether you spend money or not. And it’s not made by the same scumbags that make the sports games it’s made by people who actually care about the skate community.
Skate if you really want to listen to the community please don’t do micro transactions. It was so fun in skate 3 to do challenges and sell boards to be able to buy stuff. I honestly think most of the players would rather just drop 60$ to have the entire game instead of free to play and stuff hidden behind a paywall. But besides that I’m really looking forward to a new skate. Technology has gone so far in the past few years. I really think Skate 4 has a chance to be an absolutely epic game if they can pull it off right.
Exactly. I was so hyped when I saw the video about how they listened to their fans and now this?! F2P, Microtransactions & a mobile version? Literally stuff no one asked for. Just give us singleplayer/offline mode, a new map and call it a day.
I’d be willing to bet this decision is more so thanks to EA rather than them directly. Maybe I’m wrong, but I could definitely see this as part of the deal to get this green lit in the first place.
Personally I think if this game doesn’t have a story or an option to play offline it will done within a year. I think there is a good starting ground with what is being told but that’s it. Without story you get another skate “simulator” and while those have their “groups” that’s all you’ll get I don’t think the game will see growth. There’s only so many things you can “add” for years to come. There also needs to be private lobbies with friends only. Being forced to only open world lobbies is a disaster and will frustrate people.

Making it fully multiplayer will drop retention rates as people will get sick of playing online 24/7 and if there are no objectives they will stop playing even faster. They take inspiration from apex and fortnite but if they were to look at series based games that have adopted this style (fallout 76) they would see how bad of an idea it is. I also hope that cosmetic enhancements (clothing and decks) continue to be able to be unlocked without microtransactions, people would much rather pay a one time fee vs. having to pay sporadically over time. Having a limited clothing/gear selection for non-paying players sounds very lame.
If it's somewhere close to fortnite , apex legends, and valorant... There won't be sporadic microtransactions. I can see them implementing a monthly to every second month battlepass. So you grind the battlepass tiers and unlock cosmetics etc, each battlepass might bring new challenges and content that free tier players can still take part in, but they just wont be unlocking paid battlepass cosmetics with the XP they earn.
@@catethps when I say objectives I mean like own the spot, photo, hall of meat, etc. are these present in the current build? From what I’ve seen it looks like there might just be daily challenges, I don’t have the beta so I’m not for sure.

At 4:31 they say, "We're going to listen to what you guys say over the course of time and put the features that you guys want into it." Reading the comments, I hope it's the case.
The announcement of the freetoplay/ micro transaction model is somewhat worrying. Skate 3 was so amazing because you could unlock all of the cosmetics through gameplay alone. Personally, I’d much rather pay upfront for the game instead of getting a compromised game that has to withhold content to make its money. I do appreciate that it makes it more accessible though, so I reckon a model similar PUBG’s could be good, where the base game is free to play but by purchasing the premium whatever (20aud in pubg) you can unlock all (or most) cosmetics through gameplay without having to pay for every last shoe or article of clothing, which also takes away some of the feeling of progression. So far you guys have been very open and seemingly pro-consumer, so I hope you can keep that up. Basically, a lump sum transaction allowing unlimited access to the content would allow for items to be unlocked enhancing the feeling of progression and would help prevent the feeling of playing a limited version of the game.
@@terryglover6442 I hope there’s sum affordable lump sum option to avoid the micro transaction bullshit that seems to find its way into every video game nowadays. To be honest I'm very concerned about the state of the game, it looks good through the play testing done , however there is no mention of a single player mode and the f2p aspect makes me think there is less of a chance of a single player mode coming in this title , unfortunately I was let down went a learned that they haven't been working on the game for way longer and making it a "passion project" I am glad nothing will be locked behind a paywall in gameplay sense , but I feel placing most cosmetic items behind a paywall will ruin the original progression system that the last three games brought, they brought such a compelling reason to grind challenges , keeping cosmetics behind a paywall ruins this idea and gives players less to do especially if there is no single player mode, I really hope you live up to the promise of getting feedback from the fans because that promise has been destroyed will the empire state building 10 times over so far, absolutely everything said apart from the group building areas has been completely turning away from the fans and unfortunately is looking like another one of EAs mediocre cash grab and go titles that last for 2 years , the entire skate 1-3 community is very disappointed in what has been released so far , the only person that seems to care about the fans in the creative director on the far left because when the interviewer asks about anything that the fans actually want, the other two EA members answer the questions for him. I feel like he wants to create an amazing game , but EA is holding them back , if you do actually want to listen to the fans , you better make a good game because this the skate community we are talking about, and I'm sure this comment section speaks for the entire community , if this game is a f2p cash grab just like all of the other EA projects , this game will die and have less players than the last three games in less than two years, please listen to the people that are telling you how to make the best game you can ! Let’s say you are trying to complete those missions and see your favorite skate boarders in the story mode with your created character and stuff! That would be sick & then when you’re like let’s play online with randoms etc it will make it a welcome experience for everyone.
But I fully understand how most people “DITCH” the single player part and automatically load up online. I mean we know multiple games where people don’t even care about the single player, but they have to understand that this is “Skate.” The single player mode was very fun with its challenges. its not that, since its going to be free there will most likely be no story/single player mode. Personally grinding to earn new decks and clothing is a crucial part of skate to me.
@@tasheemthedream4199 imagine thinking its only going to be "cosmetic", this is EA, remember Anthem, Battlefield, Battlefront 2. They'd lie about the sun coming up tomorrow if it made them a buck
What worries me THE MOST is them making it available on mobile, meaning that they'll probably have to withhold graphics, mechanics and features because it wouldn't be supported on phones...
Imagine if, for once, a triple A developer said "fuck no. Here's a finished game, on the disc. With a single player and OPTIONAL multiplayer. You can earn all the content, features and cosmetics by PLAYING THE GAME" it's sad to think this sounds like an outlandish pipedream these days. (There are exceptions, obviously. Looking at you FromSoft)
In some ways we're returning to the days of arcade games. Stuffing endless change into games that are artificially inflated shallow experiences so they seem like "better value". but because the game is free, inevitably it's gonna be a half finished glitchy piece of shit requiring a day one patch. Hence all this talk of "we're gonna be constantly updating and adding features/tweaking" which is, as always, code for "good luck getting this to run the day it comes out, fuckers!"
I’m not very excited for the collabozones. There cool and all but people only focused on the colobozones because the environment they were skating in was underwhelming.(which is understandable because it’s in pre alpha) I don’t want them to think the community likes environments they build instead of the base game map. I want the map to feel ambitious and have multiple realistic areas and have the city of the game feel like a real city. There should be multiple spots like pools, rooftops. Buildings in construction, sewer systems, museums, docks, restaurants, amusement parks etc. Also the civilians and the cars in the city should function realistically too. There’s a reason why street skating is the biggest form of skateboarding and I feel the collabozones could just be a way to circumvent the problem with an underwhelming map.
I have absolutely no faith in the F2P Microtransactions model for Skate. I trust the team to try and make a solid Skate game for the core fans but don’t trust EA to choose what’s best for players over what’s best for their business model. No mention of a legit story mode is a pretty big red flag too

@@-dmm I think it’s safe to assume by the comments and just logically a lot of people who play skate usually don’t play games like you mentioned. MTX makes sense in games like those because the gameplay loop while extremely repetitive is varied by the opponents you’re playing against so you never really have to add a whole bunch of content and can just churn out paid cosmetics which is fine. In a game like this though theres only so many times you can grind a hubba a certain way or hit a line the way you want and players will eventually want more content but in a live service model its always designed in such a way to add as little gameplay content as possible and sell as many cosmetics as possible which wont work for a game like this. Just look at Halo Infinite which has a severe lack of content but a plethora of cosmetics which is the opposite of what halo players are used to. The only way this model would work is if it was like destiny where you had paid add-ons or expansions but they have stated no content will be paid for so this at the moment seems unlikely. F2P live service is fine and works great in games with repetitive game loops that are dependant on opponents like battle royals or even sports games like Fifa/Madden/NBA would be perfect for a live service model but the way skate games are and at the very least the way people want them, a live service version will simply not work and will certainly have many many flaws.
@@-dmm I actually don’t but Apex and RL do it pretty well. The thing is that in the Skate games you’ve always been able to unlock a lot of cool gear just by playing the game. What scares me is them keeping free unlocks to a minimum so you pay $10 for a bundle from your favorite brand.

Other than that it, looks great and the new gameplay features are much appreciated! Oh, and don't forget about those intro/credit sequences!
Very wary of this being a live service, while im sure Full Circle won't mess the game up, I'm more worried about EA shutting down game servers down if it doesn't make enough money for them. I can go back and play Skate 1-3 whenever i want, but with skate. being a live service, theres a very real chance I wont be able to play the game again 10 years down the line.
Colossal irony in the fact that the only reason Skate's popularity endured as long as it did, thus making a new entry after so long viable, was precisely because the previous games in the franchise WEREN'T tied to some live service nonsense. I hope there's enough backlash on social media to make EA reconsider the live service aspect.

The whole franchise is still worth playing too . I still jump on skate 1 simply cuz it felt more realistic. But skate 3 is an all time favorite. Definitely recommend for anyone !
Wow, making this free to play really kills any hype or excitement for me. Gotta be a live service so every conceivable penny can be squeezed outta the fans so of course instead of focusing on what made skate good, the gameplay and board/trick mechanics, they'll sell us useless boards or clothing and such. I won't be surprised when they have a battle pass and frivolous checklists style quests like kickflip 200 times or skate 10,000 meters.
forreal. i just want a solid game and good online. cosmetics should be unlockable within the base game (no battlepass/expansion dlc bs) and difficult or time consuming, not buyable.

Based on the huge promises made in this video, and having seen the developers of Skater XL do the same only not to deliver - gives me only one hope; that if the game fails, the modding community on PC will be the only ones to save it eg. make it playable offline if that isn't a built in feature. I for one have always had terrible internet, and have zero interest in playing a skateboarding game online, so making it 'accessible to everyone' is in fact not everyone if it requires a good internet connection. Skate games are the perfect thing to sit and relax to, and you can't do that with a lobby full of 14 year old's doing parkour and building megaramps everywhere.
I was always in the same boat with always having bad internet. Unfortunately, living in rural Ohio doesn't really give you too many options. Pretty sure our internet peaked at about 6 Mbps. Luckily, after recently moving into a more urban area it's skyrocketed to 400 or something so I won't have to worry about that myself, but absolutely there are so many people that don't get to have even halfway decent internet so this whole "accessible to everyone" shit they said is just a flat out lie. God I hope they have some sort of offline mode, even if it's like with what COD has done with Warzone being free and the main game costing money, that would be ok with me. I dunno how most people would react, but personally I'd be happy with that. Sucks we have to lower our expectations tremendously but oh well. EA is gonna EA
The problem is… This is an online game… EA have great anti hack stuff. And modding the game would class as a hack and probably result in a ban from the game
@@SwissDontMiss for real. If I gotta pay money to just free skate offline I happily will. I’m not opposed to spending money if it’s creating a valuable experience. Hopefully a feature so basic is just part of the game though.

When they showed the clip of everyone skating in the same bowl it honestly looked like my idea of hell, there’s a real worry that this game is moulded but streamers who need to make content, not the actual community who want something totally different

I loved this franchise with all my heart, shit…. I still play Skate 3 to my last days but really this is just heartbreaking to me, no pros, no single player, no nothing. The worst thing is that the game is going to be successful because of ignorant casual players and I understand that at the end of the day everything is just business, but you forgot about the real fans, the ones that commented this fucking game to life, the ones that we are still playing after 12 years. Let’s see how this ends. :(
There is already a single player mode in the pre pre pre alpha. And I’m sure there will be pros. It’s still in extremely early development. Though I do understand your concern, because EA has changed quite a lot in the last decade.
You call yourselfs "real fans" (cringe) but are crying before you even see anything in place. I guess we are ignoring all the good f2p games like apex that just give free content all the time.
Basically, all I got from this is "you won't be playing this offline, and there will be no good way to preserve this when we decide it doesn't make us enough money to continue maintaining" Fix these and you'll have my attention. Give us our single player and you can have my 60 bucks just like we used to do it. The whole idea behind free to play just tells me there will not be nearly as much content and purpose as the previous games had out of the gates.
Full Circle Team: The die hard Skate fans have spoken, and clearly by the comments we are all personally offended and upset that there won’t be a story mode. You guys really need to get together and have a meeting about adding single player story mode, even if it’s one of the paid add ons. Also- make sure you can choose your ‘style’ in skating. That was one of best things about skate 3. It made it look less robotic and also made tricks look better
Why can’t they just have a story mode version for $30 or something using the same engine and everything. They’re so worried about making money they don’t realise how many people will PAY for a decent single player it’s bonkers.

Welp, gg, it was nice believing that we would have a good game here. Thank you, EA, for completely destroying the near decade of excitement I had for the next Skate.
Whats sad is they will likely make a great game that will be riddled with microtransactions that kill the fun - like most EA titles. Hoping for the best cuz this could really be an amazing game for the community.
welp... that all but killed any shred of optimism I had about this game. When I heard that EA was going to be making a new skate game I was excited but immediately thought "hold up, this is EA; how are they going to manage to ruin it this time?" Turns out they ruined it by making it F2P. I can't even imagine how abhorrent the microtransactions are going to be with the F2P model, EA already shoves them down your throat every chance they get on games that are $60. You won't even be able to walk down the damn street without being charged $0.03 per step. This better just be a marketing ploy to demonstrate how you're "listening to the fans"...

@@Itz_A3 How many publishers say that? Look what Activision did with Crash team nitro fueled, I'd take stuff like "we won't ruin the game with microtransactions" with the smallest grain of salt. Even if it seems noble to conceptualize the game without pay2win mechanics, for me a f2p model will always be limiting. "here you can save up to 3 skate parks, but you want to create a fourth one? sorry buddy, it's going to cost you" "4 free hair colors, but you want more? pull out your wallet" But what bothers me the most is the fact that the game, like any f2p title, will be killed off one day in about 10-12 years when there are too few active players. After that you will never be able to play skate 4 again, neither alone nor with friends. never visit your skate parks again. I dread the thought.
You nailed it on the head. I would rather just pay to buy the game in its entirety and not have all that shoved down my throat then play the game "for free" but have the game keep tapping me on the shoulder trying to nickle and dime me.

@@CaraCreations1000 not at all. But it means there will be a significant downgrade in quality and no emphasis on a single story mode. We don’t want fortnight aspects in the skate game we’ve been waiting for for 10 years. Plus a mobile release means they can’t go all out on consoles which could mean a mediocre game over all
@@CaraCreations1000 also I want to point out that free to play doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t have to pay for anything. EA is very greedy and they use “free to play” as a front to charge for other things. Sometimes you’ll end up paying more than you would if it was just a flat 60 dollars retail price. They say that they won’t do that but I don’t trust EA at all
Lead devs must get paid A LOT not to just leave and throw a wrench in everything if/when companies do this kind of thing. I'd imagine any dev that ever did could start a funding campaign to compensate them for their good deed and they'd probably earn a few 100k in days. At that point other lead devs would be motivated to do the same to reap similar rewards, which would in-turn discourage devs from pulling this out of fear that their lead devs would cut ship to reap similar rewards from grateful fans...
He mentions how “people never played Skate 1 or 2 because they couldn’t afford it” I think the majority of gamers would’ve rather of paid to play CoD, their favorite sports game, or whatever huge release was coming that year. What they should’ve done is make the game $60 which you get a single player and every cosmetic item. You then make a free version that only allows the player to play online and if they want to customize their player then they pay for whatever. Skate. will fall off quickly forcing players to pay for cosmetic items. I’m sure you’ll still have those super fans that’ll always be playing but this model of gaming isn’t sustainable for Skate. This isn’t Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Apex where players (which are younger kids) want to pay for cosmetics. Halo brought in that feature of forcing players to pay for cosmetic features and a lot of players turned their backs on that community because they really care about how their character looks. 8 - 10 months after Skate. releases it’ll be dead and they’ll be using “FOMO” tactics to get players to come back.
They're only listening skate streamers by the looks of it. Majority of these people LIKE microtransactions as buying them gives them content to stream about.
Can't believe they're doing this. How excited I was to hear them say they brought it back and also have them say "We did this for the fans". Yeah, my ass. You did it because you saw an opportunity to exploit the hardcore fanbase who have been wanting a sequel for years so you pass it off as "EA had a change of heart". Do you honestly think we are that stupid? The core game looks sick but the issue now is, paid cosmetics, paid time savers and MAYBE a "must require a constant internet connection". That plays a huge part in skate and they know it, and took advantage of it. I'm not even hopeful like some people are. I know they will full on use this to their advantage. It's a shame we now live in a world so full of greed. I'm all for companies making $$$ when the heart is poured into a project that everyone is passionate about. Look at Elden Ring for an example. I will still be getting the game Obviously since it's free but now my concern other than microtransactions is, will we see old skateboarders return? Mike Caroll, Eric koston, Danny way, PJ Ladd etc. Will they do a single player story? Or is this pure cruising with other people and paying real world money? Lastly, don't say that the previous skates divided fans. It didn't. What you decided with this live service model is dividing fans. Id rather much pay $80 for a game and then 10 or 20 for DLC that I will forever own instead of a free to play game that will probably charge $10 for a panda outfit and will create FOMO amongst players "forcing" them to spend a large sum of $$$ only to eventually have their servers shut down as years go by and as the player base dwindles, thus wasting any money spent on the game. Look at what Activision pulled with modern warfare 2019. All the dollars spent on cosmetics from 2019 will not transfer to mw2. So whoever spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on cosmetics, you should be kicking yourself. Yes it's still accessible but the majority of the player base will be playing warzone 2.0 Also this interview is scripted af lmfao. No hard questions being asked? Classic. I'm so beyond disappointed but I'm not surprised. Shame on the veteran Devs too for agreeing to make skate a live service model game.
Yo don’t know if you seen it but the pre alpha was leaked I recommend watching a video of it or download it for yourself. There is single player and I’m pretty sure there is going to be a story. There’s a thing called skate view it allows you to see challenges all around the map so more then likely a story mode will be included. It may not be ethical but it put my pessimistic mind to rest about the game
@@maddox54 I believe that Full Circle would make a good game if they didn't have EA towering over them. So, I think it's pretty ridiculous that you're believing them saying "cosmetics only", you must be way too optimistic and blind. @@graduatedpinksnowball668 in my opinion from playing the pre alpha full circle is doing an amazing job the game is extremely enjoyable and I do understand why you wouldn’t believe them cause ea be doing some bs but at the same time think about it, how would one make a skate game pay to win that doesn’t make any sense, but there’s no use in arguing in it I believe that they aren’t only doing it for the money based off of how good the game is already and you think they are only doing it for the money because of micro transactions it’s all just a matter of time
I would 100% prefer to pay for the game upfront and have a good robust single player experience with ADDITIONAL online features. I don’t want to have another free to play online based game that is eventually unplayable because EA has decided it’s not worth keeping the servers active anymore. The game has a lot of potential, but please don’t ruin things with a games as a service model.
Skate has and will always have a special place in my heart. I remember my friends wanting to play CoD and me wanting to play skate 2, so I could unlock the coupon for the pair of adidas shoes you could unlock in game and purchase in real life. That was an earth shattering moment for me. When I think of skate, I think of other games that had such a huge impact on me like Test Drive Unlimited, Mercenaries, Saints Row, SSX, Etc. I think what all of those games have in common is that the developers gave us the tools to make our own fun, but the fundamental part of each was the passion behind the team. I appreciate how transparent everyone comes off by the team and faced some of the hard questions. I honestly would be fine if this game doesn’t come out for another 2-3 years. Yes it would suck to get a preview and then wait that long. If time is what is needed, then take all the time. If money is the issue, I’ll gladly spend $100 on this title if you say it’s a complete package. I don’t even mind paying micro transactions if it means I can get a a pair of Nike SBs in game same day as launch. Or pay for DLC, if it is surrounded by events or sponsors in game. We the community trust you only as far as you trust us. So when EA comes and ask “how’s the game coming along”, say what you said to us “It will be ready when it’s ready, and we will let you know”. That’s all we ask. Thank you, and I look forward to playing this game for hopefully years to come.
Does that mean that we will have no Singleplayer campaign? That would be incredible sad. That’s something i really miss the most in skater xl and session
@Guj I like the features and the devs way more than easy days. But sadly skater xl feels a lot better for me. The animations, the smooth controls etc. Session is good but it feels a bit clunky. But yeah I know the trouble with easy days. And yeah I know what you mean with the Session campaign. But I would kill for a good old triple a campaign like in skate 2 or 3.
Now that it’s been some hours and I’ve had time to let things settle…time to think…time to have moments of remembering throughout the day…I can say with certainty that I’m no longer excited for this. Every time this new Skate game pops back to mind all I can feel is disappointment, and that disappointment grows with each passing moment. My desire for this game is gone…and I don’t like that! It sucks to know that THIS is what we are getting. The game many of us hoped for just isn’t here. This isn’t what we all wanted…and our strong desire and hope leads to a wanting to come to a level of acceptance that we are at least getting something. But that “something” is still hollow. It will never be what we truly desired no matter how we try to justify it. We’re reaching for straws at this point. This isn’t the way it should be. Even the fact that this isn’t “Skate 4” and now just “Skate”…like, I can’t help but think of Star Wars Battlefront. Similar naming practice of restarting the title, and we all know how that went. F2P model is a toxic poison. It dictates a chain reaction of how a game is managed for the purpose of making money. Microtransactions are required to generate ROI, live service model to add content to keep players invested and influence further purchasing. The psychological marketing practices that come with this. This all strips fun from a game and you can tell how the general opinion of consumers is growing far more negative towards these practices. I remember when Rocket League went F2P and watched how it eroded the general experience, the community, the esport, overall positive engagement as a whole. Sure, the number of players increased, the microtransaction practices shifted, and I’m sure they make more money than they did before…but at what cost? I watched a community die out. I watched as the game “changed” and none of it for the better. It’s like the heart and soul left somewhere. Funny how they no longer show how many players are online anymore…kind of sus. My point here is, I’ve seen this behavior before. All the comments on this video I’ve seen before but under a different title and I know it’s been repeated for other titles too. The gas is out on this…and this one is under EA of all things as well. A company who already has one of the worst reputations in the industry. I’d love to be proven wrong for once on something like this…but I’d also love to win the lottery. Weird to say that I feel like the latter is more likely that the former… Edit: spelling corrections

I really just want a single player offline mode and I am willing to pay the price for this. Even if it a f2p I really hope there will be offline mode and that cosmetics will also be unlockable with in-game progress/currency. I hate paying for cosmetic. What I loved about playing skate 2-3 was that I could at no cost change my character when felt like it. After 10 years of waiting and finally having some hope that one of my favorite single player franchises to escape this world's BS would return, it just ends up going the live service route that so many other of my favorite franchises and developers ended up going. I don't know how I didn't see it coming, especially with EA and that slapped together pre alpha footage trailer but this is not the skate I wanted, nor the one I hoped for. Looks I'm just going to be going back to the original skate trilogy for the foreseeable future after all. Should have been an easy win, but no, of course EA would do their EA thing and find a way to screw it up, and of course, when it fails its going to be our fault because "there's no interest in skate, or other single player EA franchises anymore".

I know its not the devs fault, but to the EA and/or Full Circle management that insisted on a F2P with Microtransaction, congrats on killing so so much hype and hope for the game. 99% of people would rather pay upfront for the game and get everything in game. Unlocking via playing the game is way better than unlocking via paying. Its sad to see that they don't really understand why people loved the old skate games.

I totally agree with you and I'm reassured to see that other players don't want this free to play side
This makes me really nervous. My best memories of skate 1-3 was playing single player and just casually creating lines. I'm excited that "Skate." is a thing but free to play and microtransactions just took a massive wind out of my sails. Something that worry’s me is how free to play games are designed to be as addictive as possible. The game doesn’t even need to be free to play. Ubisofts Riders Republic does this and I think sea of thieves also and they are both fully paid games.

Personally I think if this game doesn’t have a story or an option to play offline it will done within a year. I think there is a good starting ground with what is being told but that’s it. Without story you get another skate “simulator” and while those have their “groups” that’s all you’ll get I don’t think the game will see growth. Making it fully multiplayer will drop retention rates as people will get sick of playing online 24/7 and if there are no objectives they will stop playing even faster.

I'm sure many of us feel the same sentiment about the joy that comes with single player in the Skate games. To me, it was always a relaxing and endlessly innovative experience. Now, I worry Skate 4 will be full of trolls, glitches, server crashes and other annoying shit. Sure, you could always play the past Skate games but it's still disappointing if there isn't a way to play offline for Skate 4.

I think the last thing any Skate fan wanted was a free-to-play skating MMO with microtransactions.
When was skate considered an MMO
There's a reason the game isn't called "Skate 4" because from what it seems , this looks nothing like what we want that was included in skate 1-3

Back to the skate trilogy for my fix for the foreseeable future again I guess... Sigh.
Their might be a single player side to the game! I mean that would make a lot of sense!
This is not Call of Duty.

REPLY FOR YOU AND DEVS
a game being ftp doesnt determine if it dies in 10-12 years, we also have literally no info on their ftp model or microtransactions, we can actuall vocalise how wed like them to go about the ftp model rather than say oh im not gonna get the game because its ftp.
id rather have seasonal iterations of content every couple months with maybe a long battle pass with a ton of stuff to earn but also at the same time 2X the content of the battlepass but completely free and seperate that IS SET UP to be EARNED, but CAN be bought if players dont want to grind for it because guess what alot of us do work a ton and its nice to not have to do absolutely insane grinding for some cosmetic gear because i want to look cool and that all the battlepass hear is themed around something i dont like.
if anything i can expect some type of skate kred micro currency but i REALLY WANT IT TO BE CHEAP like a TON of cosmetic gear you can get for the value of like 5$ in game, like 30 pieces of cosmetic stuff or something.
if we get a battlepass in the ftp model and earnable gear we need far more earnable gear than cosmetics at all times of the game being out and grinding for gear needs to be rewarding and time consuming but not absolutely absurd, id gladly pay 60$ for the game but at that point im not enticed to spend anymore money vs if its ftp im liekly to drop more than 60$ on cosmetics because THE COSMETICS feel like theyre valued that much.

Feel really bad for the devs that know how bad some of these business decisions are for the game but have to design the game around it anyway
RIP SKATE. It died the day Blackbox was shuttered.
If they don’t respond to the public reaction to this video then it’s going to be made pretty obvious they aren’t actually listening to the community
They're only listening skate streamers by the looks of it. Majority of these people LIKE microtransactions as buying them gives them content to stream about.
Like pretty much all of the entertainment industry, it's more likely than not that they loathe their fanbase...
Yes it's still accessible but the majority of the player base will be playing warzone 2.0
Also this interview is scripted af lmfao. No hard questions being asked? Classic.
I'm so beyond disappointed but I'm not surprised. Shame on the veteran Devs too for agreeing to make skate a live service model game.

In session there is one. But kind of limited
@Guj session is great but feeling clunky at first. But will be polished in September
if they didn't have one planned, today's reaction will probably get that in the works lol
Weird to say that I feel like the latter is more likely that the former…
