A revelation, great devices like all military devices, they always have small flaws, but in general there is a lot of good in them.

I love exotic military radios, they are so hard to find ! I wonder why the price of old military radios did increase so much on ebay, since a few years. In the good old 2005-2015 golden ebay period, they were almost free, I was able to get lots of radios for very little price, down to 1 euro sometimes ! Now getting something like a russian R-105 at around 50 euros is to be considered as a real bargain. Same thing for Mig aircraft instruments btw, some instruments I got for a few euros back in the time are now "worth" around 200 euros.

That's true! I also noticed that - there is cycle of life and It's true for virtually anything that is collectible. Something came up to market it's expensive, people who really want it buy first at any cost, price start dropping to lure people who are unsure, everyone got it and it's not making any thrill - price is bargain and stock quickly is out. People watch YT videos and want get this item but only sellers are private one with quantity of 1 and price begin to rise:) To this day I feel shame not to buy AN/PRC-319 couple years ago... it was so cheap :/ Wish You best findings!

Barlow Electronics or Barcom manufactured some good equipment. We had the A63 and A30 in Rhodesia. There were also a few A53s
Barlow also manufactured a mine detector. It must have been a good product because I only ever saw one in our workshops for repair.
The South African military electronics industry was very advanced and the Rhodesians were not too far behind.

You think it was made locally? I was sure it's just export for that country to meet specific needs - it fee like sharing parts with Clansman radios.

@@ElectronicNoobBlog The A/SO53 was in service years before the Clansman series was 1st deployed in service.

In the case of Racal the flow of technogogy was often from South Africa to the UK.

When they were new, they cost, like all others, about the price of a cheap apartment. Not slave production, not communist production with a good heart.
