Spies are like THE best way to assure victory in gwent. This is simply because of how beneficial it is to just have more cards than your opponent. If you have high power cards and lots of decoys and spies to draw all of them out then you basically guarantee that you will, even if theres a frost or storm or whatever in play, beat the opponent in numbers
I know this is something Zanny will never see, but you always use a spy at the start because it baits out the opposing AI to throw one out as well. Then you use your decoy cards to take their spy and add it to your deck. In doing so you give yourself an extra two card advantage.
When Zanny's first Witcher videos came out, I didn't have the game and watching him play gwent was very entertaining. Now, 22 hours into my first playthrough his earlier attempts give me constant heart attacks.
Gwent is so good they made a stand alone game of it. Honestly my first play through on PC was over 100 hours and I can guarantee that about 20 to 25 hours was just me playing gwent. It also helps that it has some sick beats playing while you game
It's so cool to me that Gwent as a game is so well-made. I could never get into it during my playthrough, and I basically ignored anything to do with it, but it's nice to see that so many people fell in love with this fictional card game lol
@@cl0ud5urfer once you understand it and once you have the right cards(spies, decoys and medics) you can basically win every game and it’s free money on top of it
Zanny, the best strategy is to always spam all your spies in the first round (especially if you have decoys in your hand or deck) and if you are going to use the commando horn, always use it last, always. Because the danger of the scorch card is always there.
Spam spies immediately, especially if you have decoys The ai will prioritise replaying your spies either through medics or decoys at which point you just keep replaying them. Gathering cards gives you options which makes it so much easier to win
The perfect time to use your spies is during the round you dont intend on winning. For exemple lets say youve won the first one and will lose the second one, use your spies to force the round to continue, meaning your oponent will have to play more of their cards.
You should always play the spies first - it's especially fun when both you and the enemy has spies and decoys, so you spam them back and forth and you end up with no more cards being in your deck to draw from, because all of them are in your hands :D
Hey Zanny, local autist here to ramble about gwent strats you can spam spies at the beginning so you can see which cards you have to work with and create a strategy based on that. Your number of decoys and medics depends on your opponent. If you are playing against monster faction you have to worry less about spies being thrown back at you (unless opponent has Yennefer as she is universal medic). Scoia Tael only have access to one spy card but they have a lot of medics so you may need to have decoys if you get your own spies thrown back at you (against scoia tael it might be good to save spy cards until last round). Northern realms and Nilfgaard both have many spies and medics so having decoys against these factions is good. Decoys and medics can obviously be used to throw your opponents spies back at them. Some ways to deal with scorch: you can drop a weather card on your own strongest units to drop their strength so they are no longer the strongest on the field, making them immune to scorch. Then you can save a clear weather card at the very end to bring them back up and win the round. Another way is to protect your strong units with a stronger unit. For example, your siege units, if you have 2 trebuchets and a catapult, the catapult will be worth 8, and the two trebuchets will be 6 each, totaling 12. This way if a scorch is dropped it will destroy your catapult which is individually stronger but in total weaker than your trebuchets (this also works very well with commanders horn, although it assumes that your opponent only has 1 scorch card). Some brief meta points. You can get a leader ability for northern realms that drops a commander's horn on your siege units, allowing you to free up space for other things like spies, medics, tight bond cards etc. If you have spies and medics, but no decoys you can play your spies, then make your opponent throw them back at you, either by them having a decoy or using it the next round via medic. If you go with the latter it is best if you can win the first round to force the spy card out of your opponent in the 2nd round, at which point you can pass, going into the 3rd round and playing the spy with medics. At this point your opponent will have likely run out of cards as they have to empty their hand to win the 2nd round. Something you can do if you are winning a round but want to pass, is forcing your opponent to keep putting down cards by just throwing bad cards onto the board to send the turn back to the opponent, forcing them to keep playing if they want to win. (works especially well if you won the 1st) This is also a good way of making use of your bad cards if you drew a bad hand. Autist out
i just imagine zanny having a mentall breakdown when he will try doing the grandmaster sets if he is having a problem spending 35 orens on repairing a sword

16:39 what's even funnier is that if he kept that siege expert card with 1 power and passed, he might have won on the third round. That extra card the ai had might have been a weather card or smth.
Thing with Scorch is that it affects the entire field, not just your opponents cards. So if you know they have it typically I think you should just make sure none of your cards are stronger than theirs, that way if your cards are less than or matches theirs, they would be destroying their own cards if they played Scorch.
Tip: When your opponent has one gem/life left, the only thing that matters is getting your strength as high as you can, so he can't catch up. Also, playing a spy first is a viable strat, as long as you have a decoy for it. Because when you play a spy there's a good chance your opponent will decoy it, then play it back at you, then you can decoy again and get a ton of extra cards free
the sequence you described gives you like half a card of card advantage. you use 2 cards to draw 4 and your opponent uses 1 card to draw 2 but you also give your opponent 5 power, which i would count as half a card. so if you ignore context you gain 2 vs 1.5 cards. thats why you are incentivized to play spies, when you dont plan on winning a round because this way you negate the half card (5 power) the spy itself gives, giving you a full card advantage.
@@LaymensLamentthe key to winning is to have as many cards as possible in your hand to overpower the opponent. any card advantage is a good one especially when you consider the potential to draw more spies repeatedly
