So which did YOU prefer? My thoughts are below. Let’s keep the conversation relevant and respectful. I know photos and videos can look different once you upload them from your phone to your desktop, but the difference between what is seen on the Galaxy S8 screen and what is seen once offloaded is pretty dramatically different. Therefore, the comments I were making while filming the video footage was as it was seen on the phone display. After viewing them on my desktop these are my thoughts: Front camera video (MY PREFERENCE - S8 for picture; G6 for audio): G6 picture quality still looks a bit washed out and overall pretty soft, but it has the better audio. S8 has better colors to my eye, but is nowhere near as sharp as it looked on the phone display. The 1440p video quality has a wider field of view, but colors actually look more washed out than its 1080p footage. 1440p video is also not very sharp. Low light isn’t close, the S8 is clearly better than the G6. Rear camera video (MY PREFERENCE - G6): Colors are almost the opposite from how they looked on each phone. On the phone the S8 looked much more vibrant and saturated, but offloaded and it’s the LG that looks sharper and more vibrant (ex. take a look at that blue sky at the 1:40 mark and pink flowers at the 5:40 mark). Rear camera video Low light (MY PREFERENCE - S8 for picture; G6 for audio): Interestingly, the G6 didn’t carry through its performance in low light. While shooting the footage on the phone it looked fine, but as you can see the video is much noisier and the colors look better and closer what the scene looked like on the S8. The G6 still captures the better audio. Still Photos (MY PREFERENCE - S8): What’s interesting is the vibrancy and saturation is reversed in still photos where the S8 produces this effect more than the G6 to me. The S8 also has a more shallow depth of field (ex. cocktail glass the 6:55 mark), and I found this to be true in videos as well. The G6 also did not handle more direct afternoon light well as the photos were too warm in color (from 8:00 - 8:17). These themes ran through the selfies as well. Still Photos Low Light (MY PREFERENCE - S8): This is where again the G6 looked terrible on its own phone display, but looked MUCH better once offloaded. Overall I still preferred the S8 photos as it maintained the dark areas darker than the LG and didn’t overexpose areas of the photo with direct light shining on it. I did prefer the fountain photo starting at 9:20 better on the G6 though. Also, the indoor photos of the Star Wars figures at the 10:23 mark were inexplicably better than the S8 since all the other indoor photos taken at the same time were better on the S8 to me. I reshot the Star Wars photos a few times with the same results. Still low light photos from the rear camera were surprising much closer to me than photos in good light. Low light front camera is not even close, the S8 is MUCH better than the G6 here.
Grant S video , autufocus on video and color accuracy and other things are obviously better S8 in auto mode . also same thing goes for still picture. But with Manual mode i think G6 can better than S8 . And wide angle picture of G6 is insane . This is also one thing that stands out G6 from other phones.
Right. the display is not the best to me either, but that camera in my opinion on the rear is better than the S8 in a lot of ways. Manual mode on the G6 is boss! Great video sir!
Hello ! Very nice job in this video... i prefer the G6... but the s8's front face camera is much better but overall i prefer the g6 ... have a nice day
+Bogdan Vasilica Yes, the G6's rear camera did well, especially for videos. Don't really care for its front camera. Appreciate you checking it out and leaving your thoughts.
Grant you did it again... fantastic video and great comparison. Both are just superb cameras and I wouldn't be disappointed with either. In general, it looks like the S8 produces a little more sharper detail - you can see this by looking at the trees in the background and the fur on your dog. To me, the day time shots are a wash. S8 shots are little more saturated. It looks like the G6 overexposes a handful of times washing out the colors. S8 totally has better bokeh. They both traded in the macro shots, S8 looked better in the reds, but the G6 did a lot better on the pinks, yellows, and blue flower shots. The first three low light shots the G6 handled the lights a lot better. I prefer the cooler colors. The S8 produces more detail than the G6 in low light, however the G6 handled the indoor lighting better in your shots of the figurines. The S8 has a better front facing camera. It's hard to come out with a winner. Both of them shoot great shots and have their strengths. I really wish the S8 had a wide angle lens as well. Overall excellent video Grant and keep up the good work! #anotherone
LG G6 front camera is so bad SMH. I have no clue why they couldn't just stick the front face camera from the G5 in to the G6. It's so much better and it was 8 megapixels.
If it wasn't for their bad front camera I would have probably picked the G6. I am probably going to pick a S8 for my birthday, currently I own a G4 and it's been a good phone
Excellent video! Fair and unbiased comparison. One of the best I have seen on UA-cam. I think both are great smartphone cameras but it's a win for Samsung in the selfie department and a win for LG in the rear camera department(especially with the added bonus of the wide angle lens). Samsung is better in all of the low light selfies and I would say most low light rear cam shots.
Yes well done, hope you put out more in the future, over all LG G6 better camera and manual control on it is outstanding.. i seen the same results else where but i have heard a lot of big You Tubers being being bought out by Samsung to prop up the Samsung galaxy S8 and S8+ because i own the the LG G6 after spending some time on my sons Samsung S8+ which has a great screen BUT ! the UI is not smooth like the LG G6 , and i still see Lag ON THE Samsung S8+ from time to time, and watching videos or gaming or even checking the News on the S8+ . the curved screen shows Deformity and glare. they should have just made a screen that had no edge like the Xiaomi Mi Mix . but beside all this you still did a great job, thanks, im a new sub
+paul joseph martinez Thanks Paul, appreciate the support. The S8 does still have a bit of lag, but not nearly as bad as previous Samsung phones with a Snapdragon processor. The G6 is a great phone as well and can be had for some crazy prices right now. I also prefer the Mi Mix bezelless display implementation.
The G6 selfie cam looks subpar in non-wide mode because it crops the image to the expected focal length. The full capability of the sensor has to be viewed in wide to be properly appreciated.
Looks like both front facing cameras trade blows depending on the scenario. Throughout the video I found myself choosing the G6, then sometimes the S8, which is great because both phones are pretty fantastic. I love that Android phones have so much variety when it comes to picking up a high end flagship. More choices the better.
the biggest question for me is what seems to be a huge difference in tuning philosophy between G6 still photos and G6 video. G6 stills have super realistic color, but reviews of G6 video show footage that is way over saturated, and I would like to see an explanation from LG. The G6 selfie shows the importance of having at least 8 mp on the front shooter, and the G6's 5mp are pretty clearly no competition. that being said though, G6 selfies don't really look so bad when you're just seeing them on their own away from any other phone's selfies. Selfie: S8. Rear: Wash
This is just an opinion, but from all the reviews I've seen on the camera's, it seems samsung wants more of a click and get a great picture every time approach, where as the LG is between getting good auto focus pics and natural colors on auto mode, i assume that's because of all the manual options for both audio and video and photo's and the extra camera for tons of options on just 1 unit. Samsung does give a bit of manual modes (of course i'm talking about rear camera's only), but they are different tuning philosophy's for sure.
Im a lg g6 user but ı have to admit it,g6 rear cam is awsome. my bud has a s8 he loves his phone but in rear he says g6 is the best cam after huawei p10. Also g6 front cam not bad at all in morning time. Overall if u take 100+ selfies per day go for s8. İf u want to take cool nature pics with wide angle go for g6. İm using it and its amazing. Also in game performance ım playing wot blitz with all ultra settings. Snapdragon 821 and 835 is op. 835 isnt necessary for today.
Thank for Your opinion, what about the battery...I saw some comments where people say that G6 after the first 6 months has battery problems...they say that it lasts less... Do You know something about it?
2:54 I knew it. Only laser sensors could focus on that properly. Your previous XZs camera test focused really well in that thing but the S8 struggled, and so did the G6
if it had not be for my carrier who could not give me the release date for the lgg6 which was my first choice device I could have been a Samsung hater .never mind always next year
Good jobe! I won't get into judging, I agree with your thoughts. I just want to ask you, are you adapting to these screen shape of S8 and G6? They really look so strange and narrow to me and not really that size.
Thanks Goran. I'm mostly fine with the new screen aspect ratio as it does make the phone more narrow and easier to hold, especially on the S8 and S8+. I'm not used to watching videos on them yet. You can crop to zoom to fill the video on the entire display, but since it crops in you lose some of the video, so I prefer not to. When you don't crop to fill, then the video is smaller than viewing it on something like the 5.7" display on the U Ultra.
Do you guys fin G6 pics a bit oversharpened? Just got the G6 last week, and to me all the pics seem super grained, compared even to iP6 I had until now. Perhaps as you said things look better off the G6 screen?
The S8 has a better front-facing camera. I think that the G6 front camera is grainy. The rear cameras are comparable but I think the S8 camera had more accurate colors and more detail. The G6 rear camera is still pretty good though.
On youtube it's hard to say ,but the green and blue much on the G6 better on my monitor the sharpness of the concrete buildings is way better you can see all the grainy texture of the concrete like if you were there ! Would've like to see the very close macro focussing capacity too !
Front camera is undisputable going to the S8 but the LG G6 back camera looks more vivid with color but the S8 looks more realistic but overall i like the LG G6 back camera more Not usually a camera freak but when your in class and need to take massive amont of notes its just easier to whip out your phone and take a picture
i iam pretty happy with the g6.front camera is a bit trashy but if you got the black version you can use the glare as a mirrror for rear camera selfie :D.and the phone is cheap 400 on ebay nice.i pad 430 euros.still happy.and ia got the uag case for it killer combo
my last phone was a G5 now the G6...tbh the camera was a let down. the G5 had a 16MP and the G6 has 13MP. you would think its not much but its a big difference in picture quality
I like both camera, S8 is better but the difference is just slightly minor. I have to give it a plus to G6 because of the wide angle camera... And yes G6's front camera kind a terrible for a flagship phones
G6 has a wide front facing that you didn't test! but overall s8 has a better selfie camera. Video quality is better on G6 but stabilizer is better on s8. Image quality in day and night is sometimes better on s8 and some on G6 and overall its a tie. and a big fact that G6 has a useful wide angel lens which of course s8 does't have it. I prefer LG G6 as better camera !
Damn, i was sold on the LG G6 before this video. Esp at the current price. But those low light shots are extremely disappointing. .I want to believe you shot these in auto mode and i could do better in manual, but the lack of detail kills it once again. Wait for LG V30 or S8?
+#TeamFlash You can do better in manual mode, but wanted to show auto since that's what most people will shoot in. Can't always tweak settings or you'll loose the shot. Overall, I like the S8 more for photos but the G6 did great with rear camera video. I found LG doesn't have great auto mode settings. The v20 has a nice camera, but you have to use manual to get better still shots. I fear the v30 might be the same.
Just Kidding Don't get mad at me because you like a company that lies and cheats to make a profit! And "Rip Your Money" and may you get one of those explosive devices that burn your house down. 😀
OMG...the skin softening of the LG G6 kicks already in in daylight! The sharpening of the G6 and noise of the G6 are too much. I can't understand why LG decided to use a smaller sensor. If the LG6 had a better sensor, this phone would be so great!
hey...Bro, I think it is better if zooming the same time when shooting by rare camera of both phone, you just zoom 1 by 1,,,,! if you zoom both camera at the same time it will be easier to find out the difference between them... thanks
I have a LG G2 and need a new phone... I was very happy with the G2 and I would like to buy the G6, but so far I watched like 20 comparison videos... finally I don't like how much the G6 sharpens the pictures :( In this video it can also be seen, e.g. if you pause at 3:54 at the leafs and grass. Sometimes it looks like someone used the "sharpen"-filter photoshop 5 times. However, the microphone is way better on the G6 than on the S8.
the zoom of the g6 was very better and lot less granier than the s8...for the still pictures..lg g6...stabilization slightly better on s8..focus speed of g6 was better than s8...in low light rear camera's both of them are great..sometimes g6 is better and sometimes s8....for still pictures g6 is better than s8..and for selfies s8...for video g6 in day light and s8 for low light ...you didnt compare the wide angle pictures of g6 in rear and also front camera...the wide angle of my g5 for land scapes is insane...s8 cannot do that....and also audio quality is better on g6....so overall winner for me...G6!!
I am absolutely not interested in selfies and all that. For me it's all about the rear camera. So LG G6. Though in stills the S8 looks good. I would like to know if the colors look better on G6 when using manual mode, WB and all that.
I got a lgv20 but s8 won this one. and I think the LGV20 preform a little bit better dinner G 6 in some camera shots after the video the G6 disappoints me
Absolutely s8 win font and rear camera, more accurate color, better lowlight, better dynamic range.. i never seen sky looks so green like on the g6.. so saturated color and wrong white balance..
Nice video. To me, the camera is better on the S8 and the audio is better on the G6. Even though a good camera is important to me in a mobile phone, I am still going to buy a G6. The specs are similar, and most importantly, the S8 is 50% more expensive to buy in Sweden, making it an easy choice.
Didn't get something. if selfies were taken with rear or front facing camera? because u wrote when start photos/low light.. I'm most interesting to see front camera still shots, video is not important. actualy we're most using front facing camera for taking photos.
I feel like you my not actually know how to use the camera settings on the G6, so that it can reach it's full potential. My G6 is nowhere near as shaky, even in full zoom. There is also a little thing called AE/AF lock that allows you to tone down the brightness. Even when using auto exposure, most if not all pictures on the G6 are not that bright.
+legrow91 I use auto mode for these comparisons as that's probably what most people are using to take photos and video. Of course you can use manual mode to refine things, but most times you don't have that luxary as the moment will pass. 🙄

+J. Williams G6 definitely looked better once I got it off the phone. G6 display is not winning any awards.

POTATO π Saturation is really a opinion because some people like more true to life and or not as true to life
Compliments, great video. I'm italian, G6 the best for me.
Thanks, glad you liked it.
So stupid
Theres barely any difference so I got to give the G6 the edge because it comes with a secondary camera
Just Kidding how is a wide angle camera useless?
I am Ripleying u from a G6 divies
Grant you did it again... fantastic video and great comparison. Both are just superb cameras and I wouldn't be disappointed with either. In general, it looks like the S8 produces a little more sharper detail - you can see this by looking at the trees in the background and the fur on your dog.

LG G6 front camera is so bad SMH. I have no clue why they couldn't just stick the front face camera from the G5 in to the G6. It's so much better and it was 8 megapixels.
Matthew Moscotto
That's why i kept my G4 for the front facing camera and my G6 and my V20 rear cameras are for work.
Try Proshot on the playstore, it's a big boost for the LG G4's front camera, tell me what you think...
Dokamoto ok I'm going to try it out. Thanks
okay =)
If it wasn't for their bad front camera I would have probably picked the G6. I am probably going to pick a S8 for my birthday, currently I own a G4 and it's been a good phone
Great review, helped me decide which one to get!
Thanks and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
front cam I will say the s8 but over all I prefer the G6 natural shots and not sam sam 8 popping Artificial colors
No, G6 satured colors in video and opaque colors in photos..
I Love G6 😍

This is just an opinion, but from all the reviews I've seen on the camera's, it seems samsung wants more of a click and get a great picture every time approach, where as the LG is between getting good auto focus pics and natural colors on auto mode, i assume that's because of all the manual options for both audio and video and photo's and the extra camera for tons of options on just 1 unit. Great video. I own the G6 and find the flare unacceptable. My old Samsung Note 4 takes better photos.
LG has the best camera with wide angle
and the best manual mode ;)
Great video, congratulations.

Thank you for the video. It would be cool to see some 100% crops. Can we see the original photos somewhere on the interwebz? Cheers!

Only laser sensors could focus on that properly.
Your previous XZs camera test focused really well in that thing but the S8 struggled, and so did the G6
great review
In my opinion, the still shot during the day, the G6 rear camera produces clearer, more focused pictures.
great video s8 for me but I am biased

LG G6 👍💜
I really like the G6's wide angle makes some shots look super nice
Yes, definitely a useful second camera.
On youtube it's hard to say ,but the green and blue much on the G6 better on my monitor the sharpness of the concrete buildings is way better you can see all the grainy texture of the concrete like if you were there ! Would've like to see the very close macro focussing capacity too !
Thank you!!!
I'm thinking about getting the G6, mainly because the overall best camera. But I think Samsung has always had the best front facing cameras.
+Jean Jacques Either way, great deals on each now
Front camera is undisputable going to the S8 but the LG G6 back camera looks more vivid with color but the S8 looks more realistic but overall i like the LG G6 back camera more
Not usually a camera freak but when your in class and need to take massive amont of notes its just easier to whip out your phone and take a picture
i iam pretty happy with the g6.front camera is a bit trashy but if you got the black version you can use the glare as a mirrror for rear camera selfie :D.and the phone is cheap 400 on ebay nice.i pad 430 euros.still happy.and ia got the uag case for it killer combo
Wow full moon on day light 🤔 how could that be possible? BTW very good review bro, can you make a S8 vs S7?
Thanks, that moon before dark is pretty cool. I'd like to do a S8 vs S7, so we'll see. Lot's of videos, not enough time.
big job!
One of the great video I saw... Oneplus 5 or lg g6 which one to buy???
+sandeep puri Depends on the price you can get each for. I'd lean towards the OnePlus 5 personally.
Like G6
great, really great review!!! but why you ignore lg g6 wide angle camera??
my last phone was a G5 now the G6...tbh the camera was a let down. the G5 had a 16MP and the G6 has 13MP. you would think its not much but its a big difference in picture quality
saludos y gracias.
I like both camera, S8 is better but the difference is just slightly minor. I have to give it a plus to G6 because of the wide angle camera...
And yes G6's front camera kind a terrible for a flagship phones
Agreed, the G6 front camera isn't too good.
I prefer LG G6 as better camera !
had s8plus traded for an LG G6
Am I missing something here? a few comments keep saying the S8 is bumping the contract a lot but the G6 is definitely boosting the contrast more 🤔
I have to go with my G6!

If the LG6 had a better sensor, this phone would be so great!
hey...Bro, I think it is better if zooming the same time when shooting by rare camera of both phone, you just zoom 1 by 1,,,,! if you zoom both camera at the same time it will be easier to find out the difference between them... thanks
Lg g6 is better
hi! can you compare slow motion video between flagships?
4:14 weird color. G6 colors is wrong, right? what did your eyes recorded? :)
at 5:02 , sky looks something unnatural on G6 , or can you tell me which one has the accurate color there?
I feel the Note 10 plus is now the new LGG6 underdog
I have a LG G2 and need a new phone... I was very happy with the G2 and I would like to buy the G6, but so far I watched like 20 comparison videos... finally I don't like how much the G6 sharpens the pictures :( In this video it can also be seen, e.g. if you pause at 3:54 at the leafs and grass. Sometimes it looks like someone used the "sharpen"-filter photoshop 5 times. However, the microphone is way better on the G6 than on the S8.
Please review for XZ premium vs S8+ or One plus 5 or Iphone 7+
Sir.nice video
the zoom of the g6 was very better and lot less granier than the s8...for the still pictures..lg g6...stabilization slightly better on s8..focus speed of g6 was better than s8...in low light rear camera's both of them are great..sometimes g6 is better and sometimes s8....for still pictures g6 is better than s8..and for selfies s8...for video g6 in day light and s8 for low light ...you didnt compare the wide angle pictures of g6 in rear and also front camera...the wide angle of my g5 for land scapes is insane...s8 cannot do that....and also audio quality is better on g6....so overall winner for me...G6!!
Nice, thanks for sharing your thoughts and preferences.
11:36 aren't the samples placed in the wrong sides? I mean in the video you said the Samsung has more noise.
No, they're placed corrected. This is a good example of how footage can look different through the viewfinder vs the actual downloaded file.
I am absolutely not interested in selfies and all that. For me it's all about the rear camera. So LG G6. Though in stills the S8 looks good. I would like to know if the colors look better on G6 when using manual mode, WB and all that.
Wow, thanks for checking out this old video.
I got a lgv20 but s8 won this one. and I think the LGV20 preform a little bit better dinner G 6 in some camera shots after the video the G6 disappoints me
rear camera was mixed. but s8 definitely wins the front.
Yeah, the G6 front camera isn't too good to me as well.
Absolutely s8 win font and rear camera, more accurate color, better lowlight, better dynamic range.. i never seen sky looks so green like on the g6.. so saturated color and wrong white balance..
S8 turned to yellowish in Low Light. LG G6 all the way ! I don't need to say about G6's manual mode .
G6 is somewhat Great for Photographing Nature
I have no idea how you take that pix with LG G6... I have G6 and in the night pixs look like sh*t.you make IT with auto setings ?
LG G6 colors are so much better IMO. Front facing is not good however in comparison.
Agreed
I love the lg g6...
great job Lg again!!! almoust perfect!!
Nice video. To me, the camera is better on the S8 and the audio is better on the G6. Even though a good camera is important to me in a mobile phone, I am still going to buy a G6. The specs are similar, and most importantly, the S8 is 50% more expensive to buy in Sweden, making it an easy choice.
*Third party Camera can fix some issues* Like Google cam
the camera is better the lg g6 are more real colors the s8 galaxy is better in photos of selfie and in the stabilizer
👍👍👍
Lg G6 its better in manual Mode... The videoCamara has Manual mode too.. S8 Has to much Software effect..
Didn't get something. if selfies were taken with rear or front facing camera? because u wrote when start photos/low light..
I'm most interesting to see front camera still shots, video is not important. actualy we're most using front facing camera for taking photos.
damn, LG use to be(allmost)on par with Sams, in the camera department. now they're running behind(exept audio).
