Raye has had the uk on choke hold for the last 7 years but was stuck in a toxic label only allowed to put out dance music she is now independent this year and is putting music out like this. she’s great this song went to number 2 on the charts this week
Can't explain how happy I am that she's free, cause I've been waiting for more of her deep music to come out and I can already tell this album bout to have me in a choke hold 🥰
right her music was on the charts all the time. if you don't think you hears of her, she has songs that you heard of before but didn't know that it was here.
Yup … Adele, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Sam Smith, Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Amy W , Ellie Goulding etc etc etc and all the others over the last 70 years … Beatles , Rolling Stones, Led Zep, Elton etc etc if they just weren’t so underrated ; )
@@rogersmithh How is saying she's good like Amy Winehouse "not letting Amy rest". It's a compliment and is always done in music since musicians take inspiration from each other. RAYE definitely has been inspired by Amy and that's a good thing.
It's like a mix of 2010's Rhianna vibes mixed with Amy Winehouse lyrics! I am a hardcore rock and metal fan but when my coworker played this in our kitchen when we were prepping for a Christmas banquet, I had to ask what song this was. It's a catchy yet emotional song. Girl was heartbroken and let it out via song. I hope she blows up after the music industry did her dirty. She deserves her recognition!n
I have been hyper fixated on this song for like three weeks now. So good. All the versions of it. She has a really good live version out. I also love the song structure (stands out from other songs and normal song structure) and production choices. I would definitely classify this a dark RNB pop. Dark pop is really becoming popular more mainstream now. Dove Cameron and Nessa Barett are good examples of more straight dark pop. RAYE definitely adds some flavor to hers with the hip hop/RNB influence. She actually just mutually agreed with her old label to part ways. They didn’t want to let her release this song or her upcoming album. They wanted her to keep writing and doing dance music like she had been. She wanted to dig into her black culture and do this dark RNB pop fusion. She has gone full indie artist so she can have the freedom she needs right now
When I found this song I felt like nobody else knew it and that was because I took a chance on her TikTok ad. To see how far it came in such little time since then is wild.
This is the song of the year. I have been listening to this 10 times at least daily. Love her range of voice. She is a star, it's about time big players realise it.
Raye is really a good artist. I remember listening to cigarette and confidence on repeat years ago. She has really grown into this new sound and I like it. Can’t wait to see more from her.
The beat you're listening to is a callback to the late 80s, early 90s rap music. From beginning to end, that's how it used to sound. A lot of people in the comment section weren't born yet (by the way, that's not a Jay-Z or Kanye sound...go back further than that and you'll catch it) when music similar to this was being made, but if you're wondering why you're responding to it positively, it's because you've all heard/listened to it before. Either way, great music. Raye's very talented. I'd love to hear more from her.
FUCKING FINALLY!!! her new music is truly on a whole diff level...listen to Hard out Here that's about how her ex label fucked her over...it's truly amazing
She’s also written songs for Beyoncé and other mainstream artists but her label never let her put out her own album but I’m glad she free of them and doing her own thing
I definitely recommend listening to Hard Out Here especially after you hear about her becoming an independent artist it hitttsss!! And coming in with a song like Escapism as her debut shows that she's not playing around. She wants this and deserves it.
I HAVE BEEN STANNING THIS WOMAN FOR SO LONG AND ITS LITERALLY FREAKING ME OUT THAT SHE IS FINALLY BEING RECOGNIZED Again SINCE YOU DONTKNOW ME!!!!! so so so so happy loved your reaction ❤
Ugh so glad she's getting more recognition because she's been 1 of my top 5 since 2013. She's an amazing writer and has written for many voices, has an amazing artistic talent along with a voice to match, can play piano, and is a natural beauty.
This is the second time I'm watching this reaction - I love both your videos and this song so much. I really hope we get to see your reaction to Black Mascara. Raye's pen is amazing, definitely one of the top songwriters of this generation.
RAYE deserves this recognition she’s SOOOO GOOODDD she’s British n very popular here love her to bits listen too “RAYE n D-block Europe Ferrari horses”
When I first heard this time I couldn’t stop jumping up and down dancing and repeat repeat repeat on the speaker, the beats the melody just too good, and how does a song have that many slick transitions
I’ve been waiting for her to blow up BIG because she showed her unique true self even through those generic pop songs her label made her do for years. She made sure if it was generic - that beat was popping and those vocals gave shivers so it was the best generic
Both are so 🔥! I'm more familiar with 070 Shake but love what I've heard from both. You all will enjoy. Also look them up to check out that discography.
react to her entire EP and the music videos as well perhaps .. crazy good the lot of them, especially ‘hard out here’ which was her first tune after breaking free of her record label and becoming an independent artist .. craaaaaazy good
2.1K likes! Black Mascara time. "Hard Out Here" is fire af too. I think y'all will like that more than Black Mascara (which is more of a house/dance song, still fire tho)
React to more RAYE!! "Hard Out Here" by her definitely should be the next reaction. I 100% agree. Major Lady Gaga/Doja vibes , spot on comparison! (Although RAYE has been around writing for major artists for years)
It reminded me a lot of Kanye’s flow so I was like OK I SEE! Def kept getting better 😭 like all 4 transitions were great! Try hard out here from her! I heard it’s really good haven’t heard it yet 😂 still mesmerized by this one
It's really a masterpiece of a song, and it's really sad when you really listen to it, I can relate to her on a deeper level. AND I WAS BOUT TO SAY she reminds me of lady gaga but I didnt wanna say it as I thought I was the only one, but I loved gaga since I was a little girl so I'm in love
This is a woman FOR women..multi talented and has been around for ages.. She's written for so many artists.. personally I adore her & her messages in her songs. ☮️💓🇬🇧
I just watched all reaction videos to this and yours is the best. You appreciate the boss music her lyrics and changes -and stay away from the judgement of whether one should behave this way ..
if you want to react to a song of a similar vibe (but something different) you really should listen to "Cosi non va" by nightskinny, madam and a few other people. Literally a similar vibe, rapping and singing in a melancholic way with fire beat and vocals. It compliments this song really well.
Raye has had the uk on choke hold for the last 7 years but was stuck in a toxic label only allowed to put out dance music she is now independent this year and is putting music out like this. she’s great this song went to number 2 on the charts this week

I mean I never heard of her til now so not really...
How stupid can a label be and not realize what she got within sevennnn years?
#1 now
right her music was on the charts all the time. if you don't think you hears of her, she has songs that you heard of before but didn't know that it was here.
RAYE has written music for Beyoncé and many other people. She has been shackled by her music label and has finally been able to release her own music
She's actually has 2.3 billion streams.
so that's why this song called Escapism
@@littlewolf2330yes but still was doing well but she chould truly Express the way she wanted
“This sound like a Jay-Z beat”
YES. It has such a 90s - 2000s beat, and I hope it brings it back.
FOR FUCKING REAL
Boom bap is what you're referring to.
Raye is a AMAZING artist, I’m glad you guys found her. She’s so underrated and best known for being a writer
She’s written songs for Beyoncé too !! Raye is great !

This song is what dua lipa wished to sound like
Her English accent, the way she pronounces the words!!! I love this song!!

@@sw6325Yep definitely not underated
Tf are you talking about, they are everywhere
The way she writes is so confessional like Amy Winehouse
*peeks my head back on YT*
Hunny when tf did this comment blow up??
I was literally saying to myself that her vulnerable storytelling reminds me a lot of Amy Winehouse!
Modern day Amy Winehouse hands down
@@kelishacorridon1859 no she’s not at all please let Amy rest and do not compare people to her !

Same! It’s in my playlist bumping next to code orange and messhugah 😂
what'd the music industry do?
I get the vibe that she's inspired by Amy Whinehouse, the look, the beat thumping, and the vocal ability whewwww

This song is a fucking beast! It should be getting a major push! She spits on every verse and the transitions are fucking crazy!

I heard this at the strip club and had me feeling goosebumps while looking at the girl dancing to it at the pole.
Hard out here is my favourite after Escapism. Her pen is unmatched 😭
