She was interviewed recently and said she'd intended it to be 7 mins and thought she'd have to add or take away some of the track to make it that but when she finished it by chance it was exactly 7 mins long and didn't have to do anything to adjust it at all, fate, also released on 7th day of the month
RAYE is the next superstar of this generation in music and she is an icon with her writing, vocals, visuals and performances! I haven't witnessed a legendary artist like RAYE in a long time and i love how she's getting her deserved flowers. Also, Genesis is a musical masterpiece omg, how is she doing different genres and make it look easy?!
yo the scene where she’s in the audience crying is a reference to her song Escapism and she’s saying she’s still the same heart broke bitch like the lyrics of Escapism
Raye’s story is such a beautiful one, from making generic (yet amazing) pop hits signed to her restrictive label to going independent and releasing one of the best debut albums of ALL time!! Also the song genesis is available for streaming as the full 7 minute track or there’s also genesis i, ii, and iii which are all three parts of the songs but separated into three tracks
Just some extra background RAYE has strong spiritual roots her Mom and Dad met at pentecostal church where her English (Yorkshire) Dad was a musical Director and her Ghanian-swiss Mum a choristor, she has strong Christian beliefs and credits her faith as having been instrumental in helping her to overcome her personal struggles with drugs drink depression to where she is now, clean and sober 🙂
The references she makes to the Bible throughout the song/video is so clean too....at the beginning of the video she bites into an apple, like Eve did, falling to temptation and substances. And at the end of the bridge she says: "Genesis one, verse three, I'll dry my eyes / The only thing which darkness cannot coexist is the light" in reference to Genesis 1:3 from the Bible: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” 🙏 RAYE is creates masterpieces.
She is quite literally the most talented person I have ever heard. She is so versatile and has amazing vocals along with lyrics. Can’t wait for you guys to react to her debut and hopefully live album🤞🏻
Brit Awards performance first and then album! I LOVE that you love her so much. The talent she has, the artistry… she is still so slept on. Raye is IT. Everyone needs to be hearing this.
You guys are breaking it down EXACTLY how it needs to be!!! After the 10th time of me listening to it, it became so overwhelming that i cried my eyes out... its so powerful
The part where she says the devil works hard like my liver, she took a bit of the apple (Adam and Eve), Then somewhere in the song says let there be light (Mentioned in the book of Genesis). Cmonnn😩
The live version of Oscar Winning Tears at the Royal Albert Hall with full orchestra & Choir that's on UA-cam takes the song toa whole new level you have to see it
Her album is the best album I’ve heard. Can’t wait to see your reaction. But two videos to watch absolutely are OSCAR WINNING TEARS at the royal Albert hall and her BRIT AWARDS 2024 performance. I love her music but her singing live is just everything!!
the part where she said “fake democracy, killing over seas, killing ourselves, suicide, government lies, discrimination” is about the real life things happening as we speak that people try n ignore to stay in their own little bubble of ignorance, the way ‘ignorance is bliss’. take what’s happening in Palestine as an example. & our governments complicity in it. LET THERE BE LIGHT! 🍉
Yeeesss ❤❤❤❤ beautiful, can't wait for the album reaction but first watch Oscar Winning Tears at the Royal Albert Hall if you like live real music one of her best ever performances xx
i literally caught on once she said “let there be light” just like in genesis 1:3🤭 i think that one passed yall mind too fast😂 but this is why i love watching yall reaction because yall point out things i didn’t notice. i love yall so much it’s not even funny
My girl got her revenge and just pulled a middle finger to the whole society !!! You must know that RAYE is in the music industry for 8+ years, but her label emprisonned her and gave her false hopes. That's why she was forced to only do EDM / dance featuring ( i.g : HEY NA NA EHHH, DON'T ACT LIKE U KNOW ME NA NA EH ). Therefore, she was never able to express herself and release her OWN album with HER proper name. So she fell into deep a depression and even took drugs since music is her whole world and it's like they put her a tape on her mouth. Also, a lot of people compare her with Amy Winehouse ( they share this jazzy vibe and they both did and quit the famous BRIT school ). Last year, her career took a turn, she left the abusive label and released her own album called my 21st Century Blues and SHE ATEE ( go listen to it, it's dope af), winning her 6 BRITs award in the same night. Her most famous song from this album is ofc Escapism ( Tiktok viral btw ) and actually in the MV of Genesis, there is a reference to it : when she looks at herself in the crowd with the spilling mascara, it's the same outfit and makeup than in the Escapism MV, and she even says " Still just a heart-broke bitch. But I traded the back of the nightclub, I did, for the bathroom floor" in reference of the lyrics of Escapism " Just a heartbroke bitch high heels six inch in the back of the nightclub sippin' champagne ". That's one of my top artist for a long time, I discovered her with the song " Natalie Don't " which is incredible, she deserved to be recognized. If you want to react to more RAYE, I recommend you to listen to "Natalie Don't ", and the concert in the Albert Hall " Oscar Winning Tears " ( her vocals are top tier ) Thanks for your video
I love the Acoustic version of Natalie Don't with her at the piano, it changes the whole song into something beautiful and heartfelt, soulful. Not really keen on the official video pop versioncof it, it's more generic pop take it or leave it category for me, a better song for that is Stay with David Guetta.
My take on the song and video RAYE said that when writing the song she had a Nina Simone quote at the top of her mind 'An artists duty as far as I'm concerned is to reflect the times' so this deals with some dark thoughts & themes heartbreak, depression, unhealthy addictions to ease pain, anxiety, insecurities, pressures of social media & labels to look a certain way & conform to algorithms we're all addicted to that's the small waist, blonde hair, self hate part, she was trolled previously online when she put on some weight, a 3 part song first is a note to self like talking into the mirror, living life via our phones & seeking validation from clicks & likes, second part still about her own personal struggles but also societies too, looking & asking for empowerment, moving towards the light, last bit big band 1920s swing vibe, upbeat, hopeful, emerging from the dark, sharing the light with all generations from all walks of life, banishing the dark Genesis let there be light
I love both the song and the music video, especially as you can find more layers of meaning with each watch. For example, the middle third regarding the negative themes being set in a dark theatre/environment is fitting. In contrast to the final jazzy third being a compilation of daytime performances, so are reinforcing the lightness that she wants to embrace
You need to listen to her album asap!!!! It’s too good. Genuinely been obsessed with it since it game out, I saw her live last year when she opened for sza and she was unreal!
React to Oscar winning tears at the royal Albert hall!! ( the full album from that show is on Spotify a definite need to listen!!) And the brits 2024 performance was absolutely amazing !! And the ALBUM is incredible.
y'all are so funny, I love the way y'all break down the video and song!!!! had to subscribe!! can't wait for the album reaction, personally my top 3 albums of all time
Five Star Hotels does not get the love it deserves and the Royal Albert Hall version, with the orchestra & choir is just exquisite. The energy y'all have is infectious 🥰 Be well.
You guys are incredible 😂 but I feel like the line “let me in your alogothym please, I know I’ll only be important …” wasn’t really a dig at anyone other than the social media platforms themselves. I felt she was speaking on how social media can make us base our self respect on the love we receive from other random ppl online (which is massively problematic). I feel Raye herself doesn’t care for more subscribers, it’s a dig at modern day social pressures. Just my thoughts 😂 Loved the video! Can’t wait till yall react to the record! I recommend checking out the live recording of the album! 💿
RAYE said that when writing the song she had a Nina Simone quote at the top of her mind 'An artists duty as far as I'm concerned is to reflect the times' so this track deals with some dark societal and personal themes like heartbreak, depression, insecurities & pressures of social media & the industry she's in to look a certain way to earn likes and subscribes, a Diss yes but like you say as much about her own self esteem as anything, she has a track on her album body dysmorphia on the same subject, so it's self reflection but at the same time also commentary on today's world
Somehow the lyrics and video in the beginning makes me so sad, since there's so much hate and criticism online. So many people comparing themselves to ideal looks, that don't exist and the self esteem is suffering, breaking and people are loosing themselves. Yet in the end i agree to Raye: The only thing that darkness cannot co-exist with is light and we ALL need light in our life. Speak life about yourself and someone else today! Share some compliments with someone and remember to love yourself! Sending hugs out there ! 🫂
Yoooo you guys are very analytical. Broke down the imagery and lyrics further than I do on my first watch. Would you guys react to some rocks songs with heavy lyrics and imagery equally as powerful as this?
Genesis is 7 days and the song is exactly 7 minutes everything about this is pure art
She was interviewed recently and said she'd intended it to be 7 mins and thought she'd have to add or take away some of the track to make it that but when she finished it by chance it was exactly 7 mins long and didn't have to do anything to adjust it at all, fate, also released on 7th day of the month
@@Doodesque ...Too bad these reactors couldn't appreciate that and had to cut it up.

@@ZMOOVEYalso she wearing the same look as in the escapism video
I noticed this!!! Yesss
I thought so. I knew it was a reference to one of her other songs. I just couldn’t remember which one. Very clever.

I love how this song is separated into three parts!!!😩all equally my favorite.
Magical 😮💨

i genuinely cant fathom the extremity of Raye's artistry and talent. she's INSANE! so deserving of success in the industry
I LOVE Raye! Seeing her LIVE is an experience; to meet her, you realize what a kind, humble, and 'old soul' she is.
She is quite literally the most talented person I have ever heard. She is so versatile and has amazing vocals along with lyrics. Can’t wait for you guys to react to her debut and hopefully live album🤞🏻
