Hi Paul, for what it's worth on my zero turn I leave the plastic guards off. I know the safety police are screaming at me but I'm the only one that uses my zero turn. The reason why I do that is so after cutting the grass I use my air compressor to blow all the grass away from the spindles and keep the top of the deck pretty clean. Nothing gets caught under the guards as there are no guards. Take care, Stanley in Md.
Paul, I have the ZD326. I know it is larger, so more room to work, but with the deck down and spindle guards removed I am able to get the spring off and remove the idler pulley by removing the nut holding the support arm at the back of the deck. My idler pulley was OK but the support arm that mounts to the deck was allowing the pulley to run too low to the deck causing contact at times. We bushed it up and reinstalled. I am glad I didn't have to remove the deck as it is a 1,800 pound beast. Also, I saw your strap for holding up the chute wrapped around your deck height adjuster. I am sure you could always fabricate something, however, I decided to remove a deck bolt on the corner and installed a threaded eye bolt for the hook of the bungie. I had to order it as the thread pitch is metric but it works great and looks like a factory option. BTW, the idler pulley and support arm on the ZD326 both have grease zerks. You might check if they can be used on your ZG so they are serviceable. May have clearance differences due to the size of the deck, however. Great video as always!
Mod coming? Take apart the new parts upon arrival and adding grease fitting??? I agree with the other person that mentioned adding some Lucas additive to the gear oil. Good to see you two spry and do-'in good👍🙋🙋
a company i worked for had the diesel version of that i used a spud wrench with a pipe on the sharp end for leverage to loosen the belt only i wasn't having to repair the tensioner i had to pull the gearbox apart and replace the bevel gears they arent cheap either its actually cheaper to replace the whole gear box by the time you add up the labor to tear down and put back together all because some one didn't read the manual prior to use every one assumed it was belt driven from the motor like most lawn tractors and never checked the gearbox to make sure it had gear oil not even the service department who did service on all the company equipment
That seems just like JD mower decks with a zerk for the spindle but between two sealed bearings. For many years, the easier fix was to remove the inner seals (one on each) and grease could then flow to the bearings. Never an issue since the 80s. It looks like yours are trapped in riveted pulley assembly. More trouble than it's worth to modify that I suppose.
It’s not used much. 10 years old with 78 hours but where it mows I can do it in 1/2 compaired to the 1.5 hours it took me before this mower so the investment was worth it.
As it so happened I removed my deck today and did a grease and sharpening job. Had to use the fel to raise my deck. I have a serious case of shop envy.
They usually dont put grease fittings on those pulleys. Makes no sense to me, they have grease fittings on the other pulleys and rotating assemblies. Guess they have to make you buy something.
Nice video paul and kathy and with a machine like that you expect at least a grease nippel on the bearings ,maybe you can make a mod on the new one with a greasenippel 😉👍👍
That part was greasable. It had a zerk on it a few weeks ago when I greased it but maybe the grease never got to where it was needed. I think it got so hot the zerk popped off. I’ll make sure it takes the grease when the new parts arrive.
Hi mate. My kubota mower has one pulley spins really easy and the other is a bit restricted, can you change the pulley bearings on these machines. It’s the one on the Shute side. Same deck as this one. Thanks

Omg. I absolutely love it Robert. Honest to God I hate to leave it at the end of the day. Everything ultra modern. Great tooling. We have AC out here. Thanks to great customers like you we can have this. So greatful
Did Manuel come over the border illegal or dues he have a green card? That lift strap and the hoist is slicker than snot on a greased brass door knob!!
Please don’t hurt your back You could injure your back they always tell you use your legs but I also know that doesn’t apply to everything please be careful Paul
Yeah buddy idk what blades cost , but I can tell u that that deck belt is 125 bucks my cost from the dealer I used to work at cause I just did one on a diesel tractor I think it was a g2640 I did same thing used a rachet strap to get spring off
Not being able to feel it isn't fair, but the noise when you turned the gearbox is similar to bearing failure noise if you only had mandrills if the bearing was bad. Could be the microphones could be lots of things and mostly could be my stupid ears
Many of the idler pulleys will have a grease nipple in-between the bearings and no place for the grease to actually go. Sealed bearings, kind of a eye appeal purchase snafu.
Take good care of that deck gearbox. Check the oil level often. Kub recommends changing the seal on the bottom like every 2 yrs. If you don't do all that, get ready to spend about $1500.00, part only, last I checked.
Your going to have to show me where Bota says to replace that seal every two years. I’ve never read that or even heard that before about any seal anywhere. I’ve got gear box’s on their snow blowers tha get much more use than this ten year mower with 78 hours on it and never an issue. Also they can be rebuilt without having to purchase a complete unit. Looking at everything I have here in OEM WSM there’s nothing that states about changing that seal out every two years.
Paul is it possible to turn a non grease able part into a grease able one like a ball joint by drilling the metal and putting a grease zerk in its place would that idea work for the new tensioner cause to have something last 10-11 years is a rarity these days

@@7863348 Often, those idler pulleys have no zerk fitting, so there really was nothing you could have done. Maybe the center bolt was a little loose. BTW, I now have one of the new GL1800 Tour DCT cycles. So far, so good. No frame cracks; yet. LOL.
Great educational video.

Thanks Michael. Appreciate you taking the time to watch it.

Great shop video. You make it look easy! Thank you for the video. Well done.

I believe that kubota has a separate manual for the deck since there are different ones for the same powe unit

When can we see the new shop
joey the hat
Thats kind of a mystery... we got a tour when it was weathered in, before finished and loaded with tools.
You have a video of your jack install
In the aftermarket there is that kind of idler pulley. Could it be fitted there? Maybe cheaper than the OEM parts ass.
If it gives me anymore trouble I’ll design a better stronger tensioner 👍

Check with your dealer there were some recalls on those parts. I would change that spring too.
Simply take the belt off the end pulleys.
I bet you will add a grease fitting!

With all those machines, I was expecting you to build an improved tensioner pulley. 78 hours is not a very long lifespan.
No point spending two more days on it when I have so much other things to do. If it fails again then I’ll look at a redesign.
Hope your dealer won't say , = no no go for the parts ,it's not a BX

I just had to do the blade pulley bearings on the left side, same deck. Your drive box is way to noisy, the lower bearings could be bad there too.
Not at all. I’ve done about twenty of them. When it’s back in the deck with the snap rings in place it’s as smooth as silk.
I need too do mine, is it easy, do you need too press bearings out,
When do we get to see the addition?
It's a good thing that you had your lab coat on.

Nope.
Paul & Kathy Short Thanks. Should they push pretty easy. I have to go pick up one that doesn’t run and I wasn’t sure.
