- Planets, like the Earth, could potentially serve as giant telescopes - as explored in our last video ( • Turning Earth Into a T... ). This happens because the atmosphere refracts light and so bends it into a focus, like a huge spherical lens. Parabolic dishes on Earth can be sued as both telescopes and antennae, and so in the same way - could planets be used as antennae? Today we explore the possibility of using the Jupiter as a giant antennae, perhaps serving as the basis for an interplanetary internet, and how Juno could very well test the idea today.

Update! I heard back from the Juno team today! Some members of the team have examined the prospect of implementing a test of the Jovoscope concept described in the video. However the current orbit will not provide an instance of an apojove-Jupiter-Earth alignment. As it stands, they consider it too high risk to change the orbit in order to ensure they can complete their extended mission objectives. I don’t know how locked in this position is but as of right now it looks unlikely that Juno will attempt this.
Is there a public contact which fans of the jovoscope concept can write to in support of exploring the possibility of doing the test? Do you know what the minimum burn would be to migrate to an opportune orbit? IOW, would we be asking to use a lot of fuel or a little? What about towards the end of Juno's mission as you suggested?
Create a gofundme page to make a satellite capable of testing this theory. I would donate and im sure others would too. Maybe if you name it the Muskinator Elon would launch it for free 😁
Cool. Intresting.
A bit disappointed that they weren't able to attempt it. Can only imagine the ramifications of it actually working for Juno & all future missions..
They could try an orbit maneuver to align Jupiter with Earth at the end of the mission. Once Juno is going down for its final big splash, it could be broadcasting in a lot of different wavelengths continuously from its apojove (~8million Km) up to the very point it crashes - that way the exact focal point would be experimentally determined, as well as the exact amplification factor and if there's any absorbtion by Jupiter's atmosphere it would show as well
coolest channel on the internet
Thanks Vern!
Totally agree. This should have millions of viewers.

It doesn’t have cool in its name for no reason
@@sonarbuge7958 pardon my pun :)
There is a lot of great UA-camrs out there making informative videos, research and so on. He is with them. Not one UA-camr is perfect, but they make videoes that are at pair with the best science programs on tv.
But UA-camrs make the information come out so much quicker, and we get more detailed information on all of our special interests.
The Juno Probe Team should give your experiment/test a shot. They could be part of something great implementing your idea. Good luck!
Thanks!
Is there any way to contact them in another way?
@@VaclavKosar like, by using a Jovoscope?
Yes it's such a good idea that if they had it beforehand it could be it's main mission! If it works, imagine the data it could send plunging to it's death into Jupiter!
@@Ta3iapxHs Unfortunately it can't exploit this system for its plunge since it will by definition, be way to close to the planet to make use of it. Though it might be able to transmit as usual at higher power because it wont be very worried about saving power for later.
What a fantastic idea! I do hope you get a chance to try it for real. Maybe as the Juno team tick off their mission objectives, they will get less protective of their little baby. After all, "Pale Blue Dot" wasn't in the "Voyager" objectives originally either.
Yes very true
Well said
Just when I thought the Terrascope was mind-boggling, we can now have terrantenas as well? I'm at a loss for words :)
Haha great name
@Cool Worlds Thanks. Yours is pretty cool too 😉
@SnoopyDoo Lmao mate

Original ideas as always...THANKS for scratching that part of our minds.
This would change so much with space exploration if this can get tested!
RakasansLegacy uhura would be proud :) Subspace communicators
I'm a freshmen physics major, and these videos keep me pushing foreward
"When we dream big, we can accomplish wonders". So true.
Dear David, you have such a wonderful mind.
We must at least try before the Juno mission is over!
Just Wow!...Every time I watch this channel I come away knowing that there is soooo much more to be explored and questions to be answered. Fascinating!
So glad you love our content as much as we love sharing it!
I am really happy I found this channel, every video is so interesting!
There should be over a million subs. This is the best channel for space exploration. I hope NASA works with you to develop these wonderful technologies.
Very Interesting and thought provoking... but that was your original intent now, wasn't it?
Well done.... I'm rooting for your idea to be taken aboard before Juno's final demise. Good luck!
Wow, I cant wait to live stream other worlds😃
Well, it won't be continuous (due to alignment) even if it works so, sadly, not livestream
Brilliant as always!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Who would have thought that Morrissey's love child could turn out so smart?
I have not been educated as a gipsy.
As a dutch citizen my parents dint find it importand enough and thus i learned writing dutch and english myself wich took me a long time.
My entire life ( 40 years now ) i looked at the sky and was always intrigued by its incredible scale.
Since youtube became a replacement for me for my boring TV and where discovery / animal planet always repeats the same programs year after year i got hooked to everything related to the universe.
I have watched thousands of hours worth of contend after i come home from work.
I subbed to tons of channels where most use very low quality video's like 240p / 360p but i just cant stop watching these video's as it intrigues me so much i just got hooked to it.
This channel is fantastic, high quality, outstanding explenations, and very interesting idea's and contend.
Hope you never stop making vids sir !
And sorry for my bad english :)
I am still tripping from the halo drive video. Good work!!
Your channel popped up on my feed yesterday and I’ve been watching almost nonstop since then. I admire your passion for science and space exploration, you’ve renewed my interest in these topics. I hope to see your dreams come to life someday. Keep up the great work!
My mind is brimming with wonder and possibilities...well done!
I simply cannot appropriately, put into words, how much I love this channel! The visuals are beautiful but what really tops it off is the eloquence in which you portray your ideas and how every syllables is displayed almost as if its poetry. This channel is a hidden gem, your idea's are presented in such a way and with so much intelligence that I am always left wanting more content as if I was watching a tv series with a great cliff hanger at the end of the season. Keep up then great work, YT in general needs more intelligent and well spoken individuals like yourself.
I'm really glad I came across this channel! Really interesting ideas, potentially revolutionary and you happen to have a really soothing voice that nice to listen to.
I like your ideas and video's man! Keep on going, definitely following your channel now!
Awesome and unique content here on your channel, and brilliant ideas! Very enjoyable to watch and think about the future of space discovery.
Awesome! The vvt beast is going to space!
Between this and the Statite video that brought me here, you've 100% earned my subscription.
The way you're keeping it all accessible, but still covering topics that are both interesting and current and also not already well-covered by other channels, is amazing.
Great channel. Learned of it from your interviews with JMG
Your papers are mind blowing. I truly wish you the best with JPL, Goddard and NASA.
This channel is absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for putting in the time to not only think of these ideas but also create a great production. Please keep up the work, it motivates me to do and think bigger.
Thank you again for yet another excellent presentation. I cannot get enough of your videos. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce such professional and informative presentations.
David, your words at the end of the video are greatly appreciated; as are your brilliant thinking and clear expression.
Come on Juno Team - you have almost nothing to lose and a great deal to gain!
Woow, you are my "open minded" profesor, thank you David, this idea is great and brillant. Don´t stop dream genius.
Anyone remember that song "If I were a billionaire"? (I could be way off on the name) Well, if I we're a billionaire, I would fund the hell outta this. You keep working on the science, and I'll keep working on the money ;)
But seriously, another great video as always. You make me want to learn and join you in the quest. Thanks again, and best of luck. Keep it up!
This should definitely be tried before Juno's demise. Thanks for always being so inspirational.
You are doing important work. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I've just subscribed to this channel after hearing an interview with you on the Event Horizon channel. The Jovoscope is an incredibly brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing!
Best channel on UA-cam! Love your intelligent creativity, imagination and inspirational commentary to suggest what could be, a very practical way advance knowledge of space in leaps and bounds that people everywhere could experience through the internet. Your ideas and enthusiasm are truly incredible and inspiring.
I love your videos!!! Thankyou for all the work you do as well. Im blown away at how smart you are. And only hope i have enough time on this earth to see us go to some of these other worlds in my lifetime.
Yes me too!
Here when you had 7k subscribers, the quality of this channel is unparalleled and your quick growth suggests that.
Thanks for being with us from near the start!
Stunning production effort, well voiced. 10/10 from me. I'll subscribe to see you grow.
Love this channel. Always watch when something comes out, and I hope it's not to weird but I sometimes listen to David when going to sleep. Awesome voice mate, your videos and voice is really relaxing.
This is honestly an amazing idea, I really hope this idea is used on the Juno mission and widespread across the solar system and other star systems :)
Excellent presentation, thank you for sharing
I'm glad I live in the same time as you. You have a great mind and great ideas.
Well, now we have to make this video so popular that it would be harder for them to ignore your idea (if they can do maneuver).
I love your videos, you have very good storytelling voice ;)
great stuff. i really like that you've elaborated from your terrascope idea (great on its own) and thought of simillar things. i really think there is something here.
Omg. I am so in love with this channel. I'm gonna go daydream about being a space explorer and doing face to face real time chats with my dad from Proxima B.
fantastic narration. really good writing.
As always wonderful!
And I am so happy that you used my music here. Feels so good to be the part(even smallest) of something so beautiful, inspiring and scientific.
I’ve been waiting for a good moment to use it!
As always.great explanations across all aspects of everything space .well delivered .excellent
I absolutely love this smart and handsome man and cant wait till every new video comes out!!! I cant get enough of Cool Worlds 🌎 🌎 🌎
Another fantastic video. I got goosebumps thinking of whichever generation down the line receiving high res photos of planets from our nearest stars. All thanks, hopefully, to a test run on Juno in the early 2020’s! Out the box, positive, forward-thinking minds can make this happen and David is well on his way to fulfilling his closing statement about leaving a brighter future for those that follow us. Keep it up!
Great video. The concept is explained very well. Thank you for educating us on this concept.
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. I feel like I should pay to watch such content. Keep doing your awesome work David.
I found your channel during finals season and it is seriously cutting into my grade cause i can’t stop watching, great content man
David, I have been watching your videos for a few months now (I should say devouring them). How did I manage to miss this when it came out? Great video as always :)
Prof Kipping is the David Attenborough of the cosmos for me. I could listen & learn all day! Fascinating stuff!
Bravissimo ! The best video about astronomy I have ever seen. I do hope that your concept will be soon tested to allow us a look to exoplanets.
Keep going. And stay stoic. What you are doing has great value in many ways. It is inspirational and feeds the human sense of wonder, it could also transform how we might communicate in the future. The original terrascope idea is thrilling to me.
Brilliant, the thought gives me goosebumps.
Your creativity is a rare commodity in today's scientific community. I'm glad I stumbled across your channel a couple weeks ago. It's like a mix of hard science and art, with ideas described in colorful compelling language.

Amazing. So well done!
Just heard you on event horizon, subbed! love this stuff :)
Brilliant idea! I'd love to see this tested.
Fascinating stuff. You do some of the best space science on the web.
Super-brilliant cosmology video. Thumbs up Prof!
Excellent work; more than the research, the effort taken to dumb it down and describe it to the public !! Seems luch much more testable and usable in the very near future than the terrascope idea... Advantages of staying curious!
‘nother awesome video from Cool Worlds. Please keep them coming. Can’t eat my breakfast without watching one of these videos. To begin a day with the wonder these themes bring isn’t a bad thing.
Amazing video! I hope they one day give you the chance to test this theory. Either way, keep up the great work!
really awesome idea! i hope there'll be some serious research and testing on how to do this in practice
I like the way you talk slowly because it makes me understand you well , thank you very very much
Astounding! Its always amazed me how math, geometry and our technology can come together to do something unimaginable. Impressive. Good luck with your work and I hope to see this test attempted!

Thanks for your fantastic and inspiration videos, its Gold for a old amateur astronomer as I
It actually makes sense, I wonder if aliens have used this already and we should be looking for signs of this.
WOW!! I had no idea Juno's transmission is soooooo weak by the time it hits the 70m dishes... wowzers!!
This channel and it's videos are very interesting, inspiring very much in capacity of human reach. I love to watch videos.
Now I'm starting to think you just enjoy coming up with the names, and that's why you became a scientist!
Fantastic idea!!! A real step forward for humanity. Please keep us up to date on developments. They are probably just verifying your concept. 👍😁
Your research is big. If they test it and it works, this would have huge implications
This man is crazy awesome
Don't give up, try to contact them again :D
This sounds great, good job.
Kewl! Thanks for following up on the Jovoscope!
