  • Planets, like the Earth, could potentially serve as giant telescopes - as explored in our last video ( • Turning Earth Into a T... ). This happens because the atmosphere refracts light and so bends it into a focus, like a huge spherical lens. Parabolic dishes on Earth can be sued as both telescopes and antennae, and so in the same way - could planets be used as antennae? Today we explore the possibility of using the Jupiter as a giant antennae, perhaps serving as the basis for an interplanetary internet, and how Juno could very well test the idea today.

    Update! I heard back from the Juno team today! Some members of the team have examined the prospect of implementing a test of the Jovoscope concept described in the video. However the current orbit will not provide an instance of an apojove-Jupiter-Earth alignment. As it stands, they consider it too high risk to change the orbit in order to ensure they can complete their extended mission objectives. I don’t know how locked in this position is but as of right now it looks unlikely that Juno will attempt this.

    • @PaperTools
      @PaperTools 4 роки тому +3

      Is there a public contact which fans of the jovoscope concept can write to in support of exploring the possibility of doing the test? Do you know what the minimum burn would be to migrate to an opportune orbit? IOW, would we be asking to use a lot of fuel or a little? What about towards the end of Juno's mission as you suggested?

      Create a gofundme page to make a satellite capable of testing this theory. I would donate and im sure others would too. Maybe if you name it the Muskinator Elon would launch it for free 😁

      A bit disappointed that they weren't able to attempt it. Can only imagine the ramifications of it actually working for Juno & all future missions..

    • @JosePineda-cy6om
      @JosePineda-cy6om 4 роки тому +12

      They could try an orbit maneuver to align Jupiter with Earth at the end of the mission. Once Juno is going down for its final big splash, it could be broadcasting in a lot of different wavelengths continuously from its apojove (~8million Km) up to the very point it crashes - that way the exact focal point would be experimentally determined, as well as the exact amplification factor and if there's any absorbtion by Jupiter's atmosphere it would show as well

    My entire life ( 40 years now ) i looked at the sky and was always intrigued by its incredible scale.
    Since youtube became a replacement for me for my boring TV and where discovery / animal planet always repeats the same programs year after year i got hooked to everything related to the universe.
    I have watched thousands of hours worth of contend after i come home from work.
    I subbed to tons of channels where most use very low quality video's like 240p / 360p but i just cant stop watching these video's as it intrigues me so much i just got hooked to it.
