Love seeing another woman doing this & showing me finally just what I was looking for! Thank you! We need more women teaching this out there! Thank you for your great help!!
Wow i love this video !! Your videos are great at explaining in detail i think targeted yo those of us who are amateur diy’ers, thanks i appreciate it…
Good instructions. However application of primer and cement seems too much and a bit dripping messy. Others suggest remove the excess drip first and apply about 10 turns until the primer appears clean and uniform. Same for glue. Great video presentation, good clarity. TQ
I hope to very soon complete replacing the PVC drain pipes of a bathroom sink in my home. I have to remove the heavily corroded shut-off valves--because they are, also, in the way--to cut through the 1.5"-thick stub-out with a hacksaw. Removing the valves and making a clean cut through the PVC are the big challenges; installing the new parts will be a piece of cake.

Too much primer at 5:15 & you did not apply either prime or glue to the front edge of the pipe. Very important steps! Do not permit primer to flow into the fitting or pipe if it can be helped. Sure, it can't be seen when the job is finished, but, it is not good. Daub off the excess primer on the can ring before contacting the either the pipe or the fitting. Glue applied to the front edge of the pipe will make a superior seal when the pipe is bottomed out in the fitting. It seals the fitting/pipe coupling preventing a water pressure point between the pipe & the fitting sides.

FANTASTIC Video! Straight forward and super informative. Thank you! One question? Looks like some primer residue may have been on the brush when reinserting into the cement. Was that inadvertent? If so, how can we avoid that? Can the brush be rinsed? Thanks in advance. And again great video. I really like your delivery style. I'm going to subscribe.
Thanks for the compliment and for subscribing, Richard. Intuitively, dipping the brush with primer residue inside the glue container seems wrong. The primer/glue manufacturers instructions tell you do as shown in the video. Apparently it is not a problem. There would not be any time to clean brushes. The glue sets up quickly and you don't get a second chance.
You are welcome, Dusty. I have a few thoughts. Buy the glue from a store that moves it's inventory quickly so it's fresh. You could try storing the can upside down or wrapping the can's threads with Plumber's tape (PTFE tape).
so what your telling me is i didn't "need" to buy a 10" ryobi sliding compound mitre saw with laser sight ,and a fine tooth trim blade to cut that piece of pvc?
actually she found the saw, it was in an isle with a few more ,and a sign saying "on sale$99.99" , there was suposed to be something else on top of the saw boxes and it ran out, so my wife said that was "baiting", and misleading, and not legal, (i don't know about illegal , but ) so the manager gave it to us at 99.99, all i went in for was some pvc glue, home depot by the way, awesome store
Working with new pvc pipe and fittings is pretty forgiving. Things get more complicated if you are repairing old work and mating new stuff with old in tight quarters.
Hello, what if I'm about to cut the blockage pipe. Then, i glued it back instead of what you did, glued only to meet the fitting and pipe. Will this method works? I use caulking gun.
Apparently it is not a problem to have some primer residue in the cement. I did a lot of research prior to publishing the video. Two manufacturers of cement & primer recommend the procedure as I show in the video.
Thanks for this Video! I am repairing a broken water line in my home and these simple, easy to understand instructions were very helpful as I have never done this before. I am unsure how about how long to wait to "pressure test" the repair though. Am I correct in assuming that the full water pressure in a normal home (1" outer diameter PVC at the repair) will be 180 psi or less?
Here's a link to Oatey clear medium glue chart.... just guessing which glue you might be using. If that's not the glue you are using, you can look it up on the manufacturer's website. www.oatey.com/ASSETS/DOCUMENTS/ITEMS/EN/howtosolventweld.pdf It's highly unlikely your water pressure is over 180. If it's over 80 lbs, code says you have to have a pressure regulator. I have a couple of videos about water pressure, you can find them by clicking on the channel name. I hope your repair goes smoothly, with the cold weather we've been having in the northeast, I'm sure a lot of people are having problems.
Thanks for the compliment, Barry. As many others have done, please support the channel and subscribe. It's free and it will allow me to continue to add videos.
They all say twist the pipe as you insert but what if you are splicing two existing pipes together and cant turn either one of them? How do you get the glue to even out then?
I don't know of a way to get around your situation, it is not an uncommon problem. Apply enough glue, you should be OK without the extra twist. Anyone out there have a solution?
Odd... The Oatey Primer is obviously purple but there is no 'purple' on the shown chart. Home Depot sells a lot of PVC from Charlotte Pipe but then sells Oatey products to join the pipe. Always check the pipe manufacture's markings on the pipe to identify material type and schedule and then select cleaners, primers and solvents for those specific pipes.
You are welcome, Justine. As many others have done, please consider supporting the channel and subscribe. It's free and it will allow me to continue to add more videos.

You are welcome, razz P and thank you for commenting. There are often differences of opinion on how to do something and there can be more than one correct way to do something. I always do a ton of research for my videos. I am following best practices recommended by Charlotte Pipe: See page 9 "Installation" in the link. The glue manufacturers also recommend the method shown in the video.
Hi Richard, thanks for commenting, sorry to hear that you think my work is sloppy and are critical of the method. You should make your first video to show us your neat work and the right way to do it. You could title it "The Correct Way to Cut and Glue PVC Pipe Neatly". It shouldn't take you long to make the video, give us a link to it when you are done.

could the hose clamp also be used as a guide to cut using a hacksaw?

Need more videos how to run pipes, how to set up pumps that would be good
1/2 to 2/3 into the pipe is ok? it doesn't have to seat into all the way ? Because my doesn't. Great video the best I seen on here!
Best practice is to seat it all the way. You may have problems if it's not fully inserted into the connection.

i'm thinking about building a bed platform to support a mattress, any advice on best pipe thickness (1", 1.5", 3/4" etc) and schedule (40 or 80)?
Great video. Well explained.
Thanks for the compliment.
Is primer function clean pipe?
If you have no hose clamp, a rubber band can be used for your cut marker.

1:24 Her arm is under the saw. NEVER do this. In this scenario, saw with the left hand and hold the loose piece with the right hand.
Thanks for commenting Plebiean. I am standing off to the side so that I don't block the camera, my arm is paralell to the saw blade.
come on bro, i thought she was going to be using a power saw or some shit but we are talking about a handsaw, lmfao.
DANGER, DANGER! Someone call OSHA. NEVER do this. Even when you are obviously trying not to block the camera shot.
Wow, this is soooo dangerous! What a risk taker! Oh, wait; it's a handsaw.....
if you aint bleedin you aint workin
Great Many Thanks For Your Post!!
I beat you are the one to ask, How do I reseal the can of PVC glue so I can reuse it 6 months from now??

don't tell my wife ,lol, it's still cheaper than the plumber
lol.... I won't tell you wife. Enjoy the new saw.

Nice to learn that the primer should be wet when applying the cement. But this then contaminates the cement. Is this not a problem?
Apparently it is not a problem to have some primer residue in the cement. I did a lot of research prior to publishing the video. Two manufacturers of cement & primer recommend the procedure as I show in the video.

I bought Oatey medium orange cement (for CPVC) by mistake for my PVC sink drain. I used it, do I need to re-do it or do you think it will be OK?
They all say twist the pipe as you insert but what if you are splicing two existing pipes together and cant turn either one of them? How do you get the glue to even out then?
I don't know of a way to get around your situation, it is not an uncommon problem. Apply enough glue, you should be OK without the extra twist. Anyone out there have a solution?
should you wait for after the "set time" or "cure time" to test run small amount of water to ensure no leaks? Thanks!
Yes, that would be best practice. Good question, I didn't think to cover that in the video. Happy New Year!
20 minutes for a drain or two hours for pressurized water. I always wait two hours in any case.
I make all my pvc cuts with a chop saw WITH a fine tooth plywood blade...
Very helpful video. Thank you.

ASTM F 656 is a standard for primer. Not a brand. So the primer used, must meet this standard. Oatey Purple along with others do.
Thanks, full explanation with details.
You are welcome.
i have even thought maybe using two clamps separated by the thickness of the hacksaw would make the cut accurately 90 deg?
Thank you very informative video.

Thanks for sharing. You're not suppose to cement the inside of the pipe, as cement is pushed in and blocks flow.
