I was at closing night of the Fillmore East and was with a few friends and we didn’t know the J.Geils band. That was one of the hottest sets I ever saw, they were on a mission.
Great interview Mark...remember seeing J. Giles band quite a few times at Winterland, and then at Candlestick opening for the Rolling Stones. They were always Great...very interesting guy to listen to...
I saw MD some years back playing with some other great harp players like Kim Wilson and Charlie Musselwhite as part of a blues harmonica tour. They played my hometown of Fall River, Mass. at the Narrows Center for the Arts. It was an excellent show.
Absolutely Fantastic!! It was a real mental & emotional treat to hear Richard's stories of the band & How he started blowin harp and who his influences were. Sonny Boy 1 is also a favorite of mine. Magic Dick and Mark both have brought so much enjoyment and excitement to us guys still workin hard to accomplish that Intermediate range. I'm blowing harp in Orlando, FL. & am indebted to you both for your factual stories, Jesse Holliday (find my songs on UA-cam, just a beginning)
Rage In The Cage is still a fav of mine. Thanks Magic Dick for making me a fan of the harp. You rock, so majorly! Check out J.D. Wilkes' harp work with Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. Totally fun and great, you will enjoy! A green bullet master.
Excellent 3 pt interview, learned so much different info about j Geils band , a cool chat between 2 masters , New years Eve in Providence were insane shows , Should be in HOF , Thanks for inspiring so many of us weekend warrior Harp enthusiasts, You Rock Magic Dick 💫☮️💫
As you are dispensing nuggets of insight and wisdom, I will share a golden nugget from the Great Master pianist Otis Spann. At a raucus late night jam session in my basement in Cambridge, (dick you have probabbly been there)Otis stopped playing and began to wildly wave his hands for everyone to Stop playing. He began to speak. "If you can't play soft, you can't play at all!" What a grm of musical wisdom. And by the way, this video is FANTASTIC!!!
I saw them in DC area with Mountain. 1974 ish..Wild night.. Half the crowd were drunkin' rowdies and half the crowd were stoners.. It was an odd pairing, crowd wise.

I think that show is on UA-cam.
I love you Dick, you are one of the most fair-minded, down to earth, decent human beings I have ever known.
This is sure enjoyable to hear the history of this and it being documented ❤️🏆👍
Sweet shoutout by Magic Dick on the quality of the band on the blowout, this year and every year!

This has been a great series. Thanks Mark, and Dick.
I meant him when he was in Bluestime and I picked his brain about Whammer Jammer. He was very gracious to me. Class act 100%
