    I used to work retail with long hours on concrete floors. My knees hurt so bad. It felt like a ice pick getting stabbed into my knee caps. I started researching and felt that I had a loose knee causing the problem. I found Hindu squats and started doing them. After about a week of 100 a day, I never had knee pain again.

    I throw these into my after wake up feel good workout a couple days a week. I love them. Sometimes I do them with a little toe bounce. Sometimes I roll from heel to balls. Sometimes my arms are loose, sometimes I look like im mimicking the karate kid. But I get the gist of the move into my rotation somehow. ✌

      If you wanted to do them every day, you could. You don’t have to do 100 day either. You could do 25 a day if you wanted. You could also do them as a primer or warm-up for your weighted squats.

    I started doing hindu squats just nearly 2 weeks ago and just today, thanks to this video, I realized that my technique was different than it should be - instead of going on my tips on the way down I went on them on the way up, and honestly, I don´t know if I was making it harder way, easier way or whatever. Anyway, I didn´t hurt myself, actually, my way so far gave me really good workout so I´ll maybe keep doing them that way in future, but I´m excited to try this version of technique 😁 the way I did them so far I managed to get to 175 reps, so I´m curious how far will I get with this 😁

    Hi appreciate the video, thanks for sharing..I have a question, when I go to the gym the trainer insist that the knee should be in the same line as the shin and ankle to avoid knee injury. However, in the Indian style I see that the knees are protruding into the front. Will it cause any knee issues on a later stages?

      The heels..

    • @SenpaiTorpidDOW
      @SenpaiTorpidDOW 2 роки тому

      Much better for knee health - it improves mobility, but unlike a back squat where you can potentially stack an extra 200-400lbs of weight on it you obviously can't do it with this squat because of the mobility.
      So, this is not as good for hypertrophy of quads, glutes and back but it is extremely powerful exercise to improve mobility and strength of the knee and hips.

    Thanks!

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem
      @OriginalStrengthSystem  3 роки тому +3

      There are many different types of squats. The Hindu Squat is a variation done by lifting the heels to allow for full descent, among other things. Nothing wrong with keeping heels down, but if you do, it’s just not a “Hindu Squat.”

    • @traceler
      @traceler 6 місяців тому

      Jis butt are way lower than his knees for sure. Karate tv warn do not relax or "sit" on the botton position but keep tension in the quads and legs all the time. I did dead hangs relaxing all the way as some dr suggest in a book and destroyed my labrum and supraspinatus muscle beyond repair even after shoulder surgery... always keep tension on muscles to spare tendons and ligaments.

    Question: I used to do these type of squats, but have read in a lot of websites that they actually hurt the knees because of putting them in front of your toes. I have arthritis so I do not want to make it worse. Is this true or not?
    Thanks for any advice anyone could give me.

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem
      @OriginalStrengthSystem  3 роки тому +9

      Well, it’s not true unless it is. What I mean is that these squats can be great for the knees. Not squatting with your knees past your toes is an “old wives tale” that mostly makes people afraid to squat. However, there are a lot of things that are good for some people, but not so good for others - like strawberries. When it comes to movement, we advise people to move where they can without moving into pain. In the case of arthritis, you would take advantage of the movement your body allows you to have in a pain free range of motion. No matter how small the movement, it can eventually lead to full range of pain-free motion in time.
      Here is a great place to start to restore/help your knees: ua-cam.com/video/5e08_N8Ca7M/v-deo.html
      This can lead to a great Hindu Squat.
      Here’s another that may help

      Not true at all! This exercise is literally one of the best exercises you can do for knee health. I discovered them after going to physiotherapy because I had knee pain and could not squat heavy anymore! This exercise was one of the exercises that contributed to my knees becoming functional and pain free again!

  • @SeekAStrak
    @SeekAStrak Рік тому

    Just wondering on the execution of the movement. I find that I can more easily go all the way down with toes pointing sightly out.
    Does the placement of the toes matter?

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem
      @OriginalStrengthSystem  Рік тому +1

      Placement of toes does matter, to you. You’ll find, as you have, there is a sweet spot for you. It’s okay to be in that spot. Also remember that the heels can and do rise up at the bottom of this particular squat. That helps a lot.

    Awesome job Tim! Hey, what's your opinion on frog squats, is it just as good as hindu squats?

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem
      @OriginalStrengthSystem  2 роки тому

      I don’t know if it’s just as good - they are just different. I would say the frog squat will be more of a leg burner and the Hindu Squat would be more of a lung burner. The range of motion is also very different in each squat, so they will affect the hips, knees, and ankles differently. So, I think there is room for both to provide benefit.

  • @rinkuhero
    @rinkuhero 2 роки тому

    curious: is lifting your ankles necessary and a part of this exercise, or just something you do due to poor ankle mobility?

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem

      For this particular squat variation, it is a part of the movement. You raise the heels on purpose as you squat

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem
      @OriginalStrengthSystem  3 роки тому +1

      Lifting the heel is the way the Hindu Squat is performed. Nothing wrong with keeping the heel down, but it’s not technically a Hindu Squat when you do. There is benefit in both types of squats. Not everyone can keep their heels down, so Hindu Squats allow more people to play.

      This may sound simple or just weird, but if you can do 55 in a row, you can do 60. Don’t let yourself stop until you reach 60. Then, do that for a week. Then set your floor to 65 for a week. Slowly inch yourself up with your mind. Your body will follow…

    • @OriginalStrengthSystem
      @OriginalStrengthSystem  3 роки тому +1

      You can do both and they both offer benefits. It’s not that one is better than another, however, I think broken throughout could have a slight edge as it offers “movement opportunities” throughout the day.

    This is not a critique....just an honest question Tim...how come you are not being explosive with your arms when you do these?

      No worries, honest answer, this is just the way I like to do them. And really the way I’ve done them for 16 years.

    How do these vary if you keep your heel down in terms of the workout benefits?

      It changes the range of motion for some and greatly limits it for others. Ball of foot also works the muscles of the feet and ankles more than heel down does. Both have benefit and it’s great to be able to do both and own both.
