i am from INDIA and i have been doing Hindu squats since my childhood, Indian way of training does not focus much on muscle gain, yeah it is a part of the process. primary focus is on elasticity of body and building endurance.
I always thought that but how to find good routine for doing it the Indian way
My dad bought Combat Conditioning years ago but it was too hard for his old body and lazy lifestyle so he gave it to me. I trained on it for years and still do most of the movements.
I'm 57 yo and can still run circles around younger guys!
Matt Fury is the real deal guys!
Tremendous! Thank you! Happy for you.
Matt has been "doing it" at an exceptionally high level for so long. Good to see he's still at it.
Only 6 days doing it and i already feel the difference when im running. Feet, Ankle, and calves very solid and springy. Felt lighter propeling myself forward. AND my stamina also increased.
This squat works like magic!
Tremendous. Glad to hear it!
Thank you. You explain so much in your short videos. Short, sweet, and straight to the point.
Appreciated!
This is by far one of the greatest exercise ever.
Hey Matt, just wanted to say that this tip helped. I was doing 110 hindu squats focused on my quads with a lot of pausing and huffing and puffing. Switched to an awesome posterior chain and springy focus and now I hit failure at 38 reps! Crazy how much different but better these feel. Thanks!
@@bobbysturdy8727 fantastic update. Thank you!
I would like to mention, in case anyone is wondering if Matt is making up fake science by mentioning "ground" or "earth" energy... The phenomenon to which he refers is an extremely important concept in structural engineering which states that when you apply a force to a surface, like feet on a floor, that surface is applying a force of equal strength right back at the feet.
This is basically Newton's third law of motion adapted to structures (or human bodies) applying and receiving force by a really smart guy named Robert Hooke.
You're awesome Matt!! Great video!
Thanks for the additional commentary. Great stuff!
The Royal Court Returns
Damn Icon. Been following Furey since I found combat conditioning in Inside Kung Fu magazines.
This makes so much sense from experience with these…and at least in part explains why I find I prefer doing them barefooted when I can from both a “feel” and results standpoint, they def strengthen and enliven and rehabilitate from the feet up to the hips and so on. The feet, ankles and calves get strengthened greatly and within a compound movement vs isolation. You should and will develop a springy/explosive athletic type of strength from practicing these correctly. I more often than not see them being done incorrectly however, technique wise st least. This is funny cuz it’s goes against modern conventional dogma that insists high rep work without or with lower added external resistance doesn’t train this explosive strength quality. They will absolutely develop the quads and the VMO in particular to a high degree and as well any squat out there prolly but I agree the glutes/hips/posterior chain receives a lot of benefit, especially from a functional movement perspective as it teaches you to actively spring and draw power from the hips while on the balls of the feet (high transferability to proper running/jumping/exploding from crouch positions etc), the “core” will get activated tremendously, even upper body quietly receive benefits and development, and the whole body is taught to flow together
Well stated.
@@mattfureysays7710 thanks for dropping the gems as always, watching this was a confirmation and further explanation to what I could sense from my experience and made it click all the more
Can you please help me understand how to use the ground force energy?
Royal Court is back 🔥. Thanks Matt. Love the combat Abs book too.
Just found your Combat Conditioning book out of nowhere. I started strength training/bodyweight exercise a decade ago, and I wish I'd had that resource on Day 1. It is an entirely different thought process from what I've encountered previously with calisthenics.
Excellent. Thank you.
The backyard is super cool
Thank you.
Perfectly said new sub 💪🙏
You're funking right man!!! Thank you very much for spotting out this misunderstood problem!!🎉🎉🎉
I d be interested to know how folks imagine themselves being elastic while doing Hindu Squats. I used to think about a slow bouncing ball, but guess thats not right. Ive pictured myself as a cat crouching before the immediate spring forward to attack while doing Hindu Squats. A cool product might be a variety of "mental movies" to play while performing the Royal Court to enhance technique, or certain benefits. Been following Furey for 17 years!
Thanks mucho!
These make my shoulders feel great.
I’ve started training with the Royal Court. That’s my new daily prayer rite!
Thanks Matt! Kickass as usual!
Thanks mucho.
you are absolutely right 👍..no one explained this about Hindu squats 👍
Starting Hindu squats. Just finished my shamanic walking with mindfulness 🧘♀️
Is hindu squats good for hip osteoarthritis
Just started doing these…started at 20 and added 5 extra a day..already at 50 and amazingly feel more nimble and less stiff when bending down. Brilliant advice! Was aiming by the end of the year of doing 10 x 50 reps. Do you think I should keep adding 5 extra reps per day or now I’m at 50 start on a new set and when I hit 50 on set 2 start on set 3? Thanks 😊
What you were doing is working, so leave it alone. In the future, you can always readjust.
@@mattfureysays7710 thanks Matt 👍🏻
@mattfurey can you please tell me how to get elastic energy, should we tighten the ankles, or soleus can you please help me out there?
Elasticity is full body. You can train it through hands, feet, gastrocnemius, abdomen, scapular and the granddaddy of them all… your spine.
No sir, what I meant is with reference to springing action in Hindu squats, how do you actually spring up , do we have to press the feet on the ground or how is it?
@@gauravd2635 yes!
@@mattfureysays7710 thank you so much!
@@mattfureysays7710 Sir, but i am getting pain in soleus or just below the calf, due to the springing action, what could be wrong ?

I tore both of my Achilles tendons..At the time was able to do 100 Hindu squats…Do you know of any modifications?…
I wear these athletic ankle straps that provide me with balance and stability..So far I had to switch it up a bit and change to free air squats…
Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I have many modifications based upon mobility and injury history.
I’ve torn both Achilles. The right completely off and the left partially off twice. I’d suggest doing high box squats with bodyweight. As you get range of motion back, keep lowering the box height till you can do a full squat.
@@bobbranksley6695 Thank you 🙏
Much obliged 😎
Any suggestions for if I hurt my knees when doing this? Am i doing thrm wrong? Any advice for the stance? Anything is appreciated. 🙏
Can these be done properly if one ankle has been injured and developed a bone spur that prevents forward bending?
Here's the real secret.
Gett a back pack full of weight or a weighted vest
Do your squats and push up
Sorry, I am still not sure as to how to cue or activate things properly the way you describe. Just become more mindful of the posterior chain and just practice using it?
Secondly, is there an equivalent secret for the Hindu pushup?
What is largest number of squats one can do in row
I've seen Matt do 500, and he's spoken about doing 1000.
can you do these weighted?
Matt, is there a reason why you recommend not bouncing while performing these squats?
You’re supposed to spring up using your elastic energy. Bouncing is using momentum.
Sir im 128 kgs but i do 3 pullups , i do 20 hindu pushups.. 30 squats.. but i want to do 800 how to improve.. my fat is high
clean up your diet
👍🏻👍🏻
Is hindu squat make back weak
No
GAMBA!!
Is it best to be doing Hindu squats barefoot?
Matt. I used to bounce in the manner you described. I could have sworn in either Gama Fitness - or in Combat Conditioning, that you reference, "Be careful not to bounce at the bottom?" Am I mistaken
You don’t bounce.
🙏🇮🇳❤
I got tired to watch this after 1 minute........
HIIIIIIIIIIIGH REPETITION!!!
Matt looks pretty weak!!!!
Super annoying delivery
Do t watch MO

The question should be WHY indians do Hindu squats. Note these are workout done primarily by wrestlers and Indian Martial Arts practioners. Indian wrestlers practice their trade on sand pits where there is lot of resistance bottoms up and so is the associated injuries. So the hindu squats is possibly the only option to trains the joints the way it should be. And this is not just the squats. The Hindu pushups are too done keeping the same principles in Mind. The variations hindu pushps has is not just for the chest shoulders and back, there is a variation that helps in keeping the mobility in the lower body in mind eg. the CHAKAR DAND, HANUMAN DAND RAM MURTI DAND and the list goes on.
Well stated!
Hindu squats and Monkey Crawl make my Plantar Fasciitis pain go away. That's why I do them everyday.
