Hi sisi, yes it's to keep moisture and also acts like soil around the potatoes, ayanaba kahle under the hay and there is therefore no need to add soil as your potatoes grow.
I have not experienced any potato diseases so far. The only thing I had was bugs but they only ate the greens and the tubers were never affected so I let them be until the greens dried up.
Hi. I put lime powder to repel pests like moles, bone meal to help the tubers grow well and some chicken manure to fertilize the soil. To space your tubers you can measure about 10-15 cm inbetween them. If you don't have hay you can use the grass that you cut from your yard or collect it when neighbors cut their lawns. That is what we use mostly and only buy hay when we need to top up what we have.
Please show us when you harvest. Would love to see the results. Happy gardening👍👍🙏

Hi sisi, yes it's to keep moisture and also acts like soil around the potatoes, ayanaba kahle under the hay and there is therefore no need to add soil as your potatoes grow.
How do you deal with potato diseases?
I have not experienced any potato diseases so far. The only thing I had was bugs but they only ate the greens and the tubers were never affected so I let them be until the greens dried up.
Hi Amanda.
Ngithanda ukuba umlimi wamazambane kodwa ispace sami sincane kakhulu njalo Angazi about umhlabathi ukuthi uzovuma for izilwanyana eziphansi komhlaba ingabe ngingazibulala ngani ukuze zingamoshi amazambane phansi?
Hi Bheki. Amazambane awasona isitshalo esihluphayo. Uma umhlabathi wakho uvundile noma indawo iyincane azothela kakhulu. Ukuvundisa ungasebenzisa umquba wezinkomo, mbuzi noma wezinkukhu. Ukuwanika amandla futhi ungafaka I bone meal emhlabathini ngoba iyalekelela ekukhuleni kwezithelo ezitizimpande noma ezikhulela ngaphansi komhlabathi. Izilwane eziphansi akulula ukuzibona ukuthi zikhona noma azikho uma ungekatshali. Imvamisa kuye kube yimvukuzane ehluphayo kodwa uma ingekho la uhlala khona ngeke ibekhona noma usutshalile. Kumele nje ugweme ukuwatshala endaweni ehlala imanzi ngoba amanzi amaningi ayabolisa. Engingakusho ukuthi start planting, okunye uzokubona ngendlela. Ngikufisela impumelelelo.
Ngiyabonga Dadewethu ngiyafisa futhi ngizotshala nakanjani.
I will keep on touch with you Dadewethu
@ZikhaliBheki-df2ij all the best bhuti. Would love to hear feedback uma usuqalile.
Ngisangakwazi ukufaka amazambane ngo March?
Yes you can, especially if you are in a place with sub tropical climate that doesn't have frost in winter.
Why covering them with grass?
I use grass instead of soil. This way I don't have to keep adding soil as they grow.
Hi i planted my potatoes for about seven days but no any result
Hello. Give them some time, sometimes they may take 3 weeks or more before you see anything visible on the top.
Hi, what is that you are speeading in the hole before putting seeds?
Spacing of tubers?
If don't have hay, what else can I use?
Hi. I put lime powder to repel pests like moles, bone meal to help the tubers grow well and some chicken manure to fertilize the soil.
