Tremonte, I have a 2017 Z650 as well. I've made the same full system exhaust change as you, Yoshimura Alpha. I also installed the Power Commander 5; recent dyno shows max HP at 65.5 (61.70 HP before the installation of the Power Commander 5). That's a 12.9% gain, nothing to complain about there! Keep the videos coming!
Not sure where you did your math. It's only a 8% increase. And that isnt alot considering the small amount of HP this bike has. $700 for the exhaust and $120 for the power commander just to gain 4 HP... you have to be out of your mind. Hahaha
Outstanding! And nice to know that a tune is not absolutely needed right away after an install. I'm leaning towards getting the IXIL system when I get mine, I like the twin pipe look! I'll have to do a stock dyno run like you so everyone on the forum can see real world numbers for all the exhaust combos.
Yeah, that is certainly an impressive number. Also, has your bike been running cooler with the aftermarket exhaust? I feel like my z650 heats up pretty fast in traffic and am thinking maybe the lack of a hot catalyst system might help.
Tremonte help, I'm so confused about the 02 sensor. Do I need it with power commander? What about if my full exhaust doesn't have a place for it? My mechanic told me it causes major problems for our bikes
Hello Tremonte, please answer me some questions: - Does this system need a remap? What does it feel like when you ride with stock settings ? - Did you remap your bike and how do you do it ?
I forget from your other video. Did you also put in a high flow air filter such as K&N? That would certainly help. Great factual videos, these are rare on UA-cam.

Just fitted an Akrapovic race system to my Z650. Sounds lots better. Cant say I have noticed any difference on the road. After I get my Rapid Bike fitted I will run it on a dyno.
Currently, I do find the early modell of Akra exhaust sounded so much better, and maybe those video doesn't do justice for the 2017 Akra exhaust. Do you mind to put a video on it ? without DB killer if possible :)
I will try to find some time to get a video downloaded. I use the db killer as I thought it was too loud with it removed. I am still waiting for my Rapid bike to show up.
Finally got my CF Yoshimura Alpha for my 2017 650 Candy Orange. Would highly recommend. Great sound and tolerable without baffle. Did you use baffle Tremonte?
Did you notice any difference with engine vibrations after the install? Were the vibrations any more or less than with the stock unit? What about power increase and responsiveness from the motor? Thanks.
hawkrider88 Never had any noticeable engine vibration with or without stock exhaust. There are small power gains and responsiveness, but overall your motorcycle will sound and look 1000 times better. Baffle is not necessary and I haven’t noticed a change in MPG. The Yoshi pipe is tuned for the 2017 ninja 650.
Hey Tremonte, huge fan! I noticed in your stock Dyno video you mentioned putting a Bazzaz, and block off plate on. For this dyno test, do you have the plate installed and did you use the Bazzaz? Thanks in advance!
I installed the block off plate before any dynos were taken, even the stock run. The plate is still installed on the bike, and I am running a Rapid Bike ECU instead of the Bazaaz. This video was exhaust only, no fuel tuning. There is another set of videos showing that dyno, what was tuned, and an overlay of all three dynos showing the improvements at each modification. You can see the Rapid Bike dyno and impression video here: ua-cam.com/video/wDNRIoEczYQ/v-deo.html
+Sanford Toole no. The plate was only so we could get accurate AFR readings. It doesn't do anything other than stop fresh air from being dumped into the exhaust ports.
+JUNIOR M exhaust retails around $675. Rapid Bike is around $400. All the tune sessions were worked out between myself and Superbike Unlimited and not necessary for anyone wanting to do the same.
It's normal for the Z to run a little hotter than you would expect. The temp gauge doesn't operate like what you may be used to in your car. Once the bike it properly broken in, the temps will come down some. Adding the exhaust, allowing better flow, will help as well.
+Mr. Krios there is no difference. They are one in the same. The difference you'll find will be either full carbon or stainless/carbon. No performance difference, only look and weight. You definitely feel the difference after dropping the stock exhaust.
Thanks. They're the same? Yoshi site says Alpha-T has a conical shape of the perforated tube inside for that 'GP sound'. I saw more vids on your channel, this is the dyno result with Full System, right? How much gain can i expect with the Slip On only?
+Mr. Krios there is only the one Alpha for the Z that I know of. They may make another Alpha series for different bikes, or have something else coming soon. This exhaust was the first release for the Z650. You can't get a slip on. The factory exhaust is a welded design. You would still have to buy a separate header pipe to use any slip on muffler. At that point, you're probably going to spend more than the full system. You can go on my site at www.tremonte.tv and look at all the separate dyno sheets between tune sessions, and see the overall result after adding the Rapid Bike ECU and doing a basic fuel tune.
+colbybaird3 look in my channel and you will see where we did before and after dynos to determine if mapping was needed. With the Yoshimura Alpha, it is not necessary, but I will be adding a Rapid Bike ECU soon.
+Lifted_Above the hardware for an ECU flash isn't available for the Z yet. When it's available, These guys will have it. It's pretty much what they are known for in the racing world.
I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't think the ECU on the 17 model would be much different than other bikes on the market. ECUnleashed does many makes and models. There are about 3 or 4 other companies I know of around the USA that flash them. You could take care of all the parameters via a flash, short of fuel mapping, if you wanted a local dyno to do that with a PC5, Bazzaz, or something similar. But you're right about model specific ECU. I figured with companies who do this sort of thing all the time, the brand of ECU in the new Ninja/Z model can't be too alien to all the rest, or be programmed strangely.
It's just a matter of time. They changed something on the 17 models that requires new hardware. We looked into it. They have the software to do about any bike, just waiting for it to be released is the only deal. I'm rather impatient when it comes to toys... we are just going to drop the Rapid Bike in. It's plug and play and with the fail safe feature, even if a parameter goes out of wack it will reset to factory. That, and these guys are 5 minutes from me, so I can get a bike specific tune.
That's a nice feature to have, a tuner so close by. Although I prefer a boat load of torque and horsepower, I really like the new Ninja 650. Took one out for a demo ride yesterday. I'm quite tall, 6-2 and 34" inseam, about 200 pounds with gear. This thing surprisingly fit. In spite being somewhat diminutive in overall size, I was not cramped on it. Seat was comfortable and the reach to the bars was intuitive and comfortable, being slightly sporty as they wanted. Your Yoshimura exhaust sounds pretty rad. I'd have to get one fully tuned as well, if I bought one. I took the Z900 out on the same day and that thing is astonishingly smooth, torquey, and fast. Considering getting one.
William Steyert yes i know! But WITH A CUSTOM TUNE ITS MORE POWER! Also the tune just doesn’t give you more power but gives you the abilities to decide where in the powerband you want to make the power and torque based on rider preference. Without a tune these are just peak numbers. Tuning gives you the ability to adjust timing, AFR, spark, ignition timing and many other factors. Just because you can bolt on an exhaust and gain hp doesnt mean you’re gaining the HP/TQ in the correct places in the power band efficiency. So yes I watched the video! But ECU tuning is the MOST IMPORTANT part of any build, whether its a car, bike, or boat.
