    Gaga did her makeup like "every woman" even if she applied things in a way that isn't technically correct. She's amazing and this was fun to watch and learn from you, Johnny. ❤️

    I'm 62. I've never worn much makeup, and often don't wear any. I know very little about makeup. A video of yours popped up one day and you were doing a customer in Sephora bit that had me cracking up. Then more of your videos showed up on my feed and I enjoyed those too. I never came to watch you for the makeup, but for your personality, which always leaves me happier. With this video I see a different side of you and dang you know what you're talking about. I did something I have never done in my life, I bought three of the items you recommended for aging skin. So now you are going to be making me laugh and be more beautiful 😊😊 Thank you!

    I always start with my eyes because no matter how careful I am I always seem to get some makeup under my eyes and other places. Friends have always ridiculed me for doing this and it's nice to hear that you, a professional makeup artist, also starts with the eyes so you can clean up any oopses afterwards!
    Thanks Johnny!!!❤

      I learned to do my eyes first because of Robert Welsh. It felt weird at first, but now it’s like second nature to me to do my eyes first. I always did my base first, only because I used to use my foundation as eye primer, but after I finally discovered makeup UA-cam in 2020, I invested in a. Good primer and do my eyes first. I love seeing actual professional makeup artists do it too, even though I learned that from one😂

    Doing the foundation and setting it with setting powder THEN going in with the blush and bronzer/highlighter etc makes more sense because at the end when it’s all complete you can either lightly go over it again OR use a more hydrating alternative which is a setting spray. I do love that she used the foundation as the primer for her eyes I think I would prefer that over concealer that creases too much in the eye area or just feels heavy on the eyes once you add shadow and mascara. Glad I watched this, great observations and tips!

    I loved this video! It’s so nice to have a tutorial like this where someone like yourself who has been doing makeup professionally can explain why certain steps are important and why we should or shouldn’t do certain things within the steps. Thank you for doing this video. Also, I have a question. What is the difference between using a concealer as an eye primer versus an eye primer? I’ve noticed some MUA’s swear we should be using primers and some like yourself use concealer as primer. So I’m not sure of the difference. 😊

    • @JohnnyRoss
      @JohnnyRoss  Рік тому +14

      Great question! Depending on the eyeshadow primer, it can definitely add more grip! So for people with more mature skin that crease heavily, people with very oily lids, or when you’re using shimmer/glitter, an gripping eyeshadow primer will prevent that. But for all others, concealer set with a little powder before eyeshadow is fine! ❤

I wish I could to eyes first but if I wait I feel like my face is gonna crack off! Hahahhaha 😂 So that might be one reason some of us do foundation first. I tried the Dior for mature skin that you said looks great and lasts on your mom but it was just a bit too dry so I went with Estée Lauder double ware applied with my fingers and so far so good! Hi Johnny!! Beautiful video/tutorial/review, Love and appreciate you point of view but I have mature skin which means that my techniques for face makeup are same as hers. In the olden days when concealer was born, it was applied first and then foundation. Since everything was powder. It all worked and still does. No bronzer or contour, just good old blush was/is the big multi-tasking item! 😊 BTW because we are fair, the original brown was not our friend. Thanx! 😅😊

    As someone with mature skin I agree less is more. I'm really liking her concealer 😊❤

    Definitely loved this kind of video and your honesty was so refreshing. Loved how you explained better ways to do the process without being negative about how she did it. Makeup is artistry and what may work for some may not work for others. I learned a lot from this and I’m excited to try some of your tips. Confession…. I totally nerded out and was taking notes like a school girl in class. When Johnny speaks…. We listen! ❤

    I love that you go over it as we go along, some good tips, thanks Johnny......and the fact that nothing is 'set in stone' so there are different ways we all like to do our make-up (and I've tried, but it just doesn't 'feel right' to me, to do my eyes first, even though I get what you're saying, but I just can't do it, tried a couple of times, but nup...it just felt wrong!!😂) really enjoyed this post. Thank you!! From all reports, this line of make-up is pretty good, and she's put her name to it, so she must be happy with it👍👍👍

    You are so clear with your commentary... thank you! Everything you said made so much sense. I do love a lot of these products, but I'm not using ten of them on top of each other in layers!!!

    Thank you for the tips and drugstore recommendations for dupes for those of us on a budget and not expert level makeup artists.
    Love how friendly and encouraging you are 💕

    I learned so much from this video. How you explained the step of powder on top of wet (like bronzer on foundation/concealer) was game changing for me and made me realize why my bronzer is so difficult to blend. Would love more of these kinds of videos.

    Thanks for this, learned a lot! It would be great to get a more comprehensive video on your foundation recommendations - not just young vs. mature skin, but also more or less coverage - especially for those of us with freckles we don' t want to hide. Ta!
