Before you complete the frame you can put any serial number you want on it yourself (if you want) because it's not a gun. It does not need to follow a specific number pattern at this point. A fully completed frame would. The question is is it then transferable through an FFL with any serial number you put on it prior to completion?
It's a handy process, and you can do more artistic things with the same methods. Lots of bladesmiths will etch knives, and you can even etch tools. Probably the biggest problem is masking off the work area and making it look neat. I'm still looking for better vinyl stencil options.

@@DesertDogExploring thank you. I was under the impression that after the frame was completed it had to be serialized in a very specific way per ATF in order for it to be transferable.
But if you made it before 2018 then you DON'T have to engrave or register it.....and they don't know that you didn't make it back in 2015....so you made it back it 2015...simple.
That's incorrect. Even if you made it before and had a personal serial number on it, you still have to apply a new CA supplied S/N to it. Several reputable 2A legal sources have come to same conclusion.
I'm a bit confused on the application process, it asks for a manufacture date but since it's an 80% lower it hasn't been manufactured yet? Or is it asking for the manufacture date of the 80% lower itself? Maybe that's a dumb question but just want to get it done right the first time
Anthony Henle customvinyllettering.net. Specify a “knockout” stencil when ordering. Not a sponsor and no interest in them. They just had the easiest online system and fastest shipping.
kace kace No clue. You can find out with a multimeter. If you can pass current through the receiver, then it should work. If not, you’ll have to remove the finish, etch, and then refinish!
OMG that is a great intro lol, I'm pissing myself, here is a good one. ua-cam.com/video/sqyiYd4iCYY/v-deo.html Friendly tip, A green apple will get rid of the smackies. Pro film tip. great vid, but you're losing your audience to the audio. Could do a voice-over to fix it if you think it's worth it BUT DO NOT take this down, just redo and repost with corrected audio and a message and a link to the fixed video.
Your smacking is killin me!
Seriously my biggest pet peeve is mouth noises, the hair on my neck was standing up this hole video
Funny intro, but I was out by the 4th smack.
Whet the fuck is the teeth sucking?!?
Nice vid. Turned off sound. Had to go to cc to. Smacking no cool.

Not in California. There was a time window for that, but it passed. Need to have a serial assigned to you.
Thank you for the great video. Will this work with black anodized receivers or do I have to remove the coating under letters first?
frusfromus Anodizing is non-conductive, so you will need to remove coating, first.
stop. sucking. your. teeth. for the love of GOD
other than that, thanks for the phenomenal video, it was super helpful

@@tsafa You can number an 80% frame at any time, complete or not. And yes, it can be transferred via FFL.

I tried, I really tried but the lip smacking sounds are too much.

@@evox786 I have CA dept of justice paperwork that says different (from the DOJ)
@@a68rebel I was also under the impression that previous builds needed a serial. Can you toss a link for me?
Where can I get the vinyl cut? Does kinkos do that type of thing?

it's asking when you plan on building, or when the build will be completed. Must be in the future to proceed.
where'd you get the vinyl sticker from

how to print the sticker thing 🤔
I hope you have stopped clicking your tongue by now.
How bad I wish I could comment with audio....
Cool video
What tools did you use to drill out that 10/22?
A drill press, an angle indicator, and tons of patience.
Smack.......Smack........Smack...... made it 6min
will this work on a receiver that is blued?
