  • Kayaking in Hardangerfjord from Øystese to Fyksesund, Botnen and back.
This video is almost 1 hour long and are for those who want to see the details of this area. There is no music, only original sound. This is meant to be viewed as slow TV on a large screen.
Fyksesund is a narrow fjordarm of Hardangerfjord. There are no roads to the end of the fjord and it is normally reached by hiking or with boat or kayak. The distance from Øystese to Botnen in the end of the fjord is 17 km one way, 34 km total. If you want to paddle a shorter distance, you can launch close to the bridge and paddle 10 km one way in the narrow fjord, 20km total.
Fast forward to the areas you want to see in the video.
In the start of the video you can see some goats by the fjord. The strange sound is a GPS tracker on each goat that give them an alarm if they go outside their designated area. It is mainly for protection and they are trained to go back into their area when they get an alarm. If they get lost a GPS position is sent to the owner. I
The area filmed right after the goats can be dangerous for beginners as this is a narrow and shallow part of the fjord where tidal waters are pressured from the deep fjord through a shallow canal. There is often current and waves here , even on days where nearby areas are absolutely calm. You should take this into consideration when returning through this area in the evening after a 30 km distance.
I used a Rockpool Taran 18 in the video with a GPower Paddles Nitro wing paddle. I use a NRS PFD and drysuit. I filmed with GoPro 9 2.7K .

This is the perfect kayaking video. Head mounted camera so you can see a good bit of the kayak as it slices through the water, you can see the paddle dip in and out of the water and you can see the gorgeous surroundings. And no annoying music playing over it.

Thank you for only natural sounds! I'm a sea kayaker from the Pacific Northwest of the USA. The water sounds are so familiar that I can pretend I'm there in my kayak. -SKÅL!

Hi. Very nice video! Can’t help but noticed the quality is superb!
What are your accessories to the camera, like lenses, etc.? Which exact camera settings? Did you color grade your footage?
    Thanks!🙏🏻

your video is perfect. so nice to enjoy this with you. no banter or having to watch you doing other things. if a video is labled "canoeing in Alaska" for example, the viewer believes they will enjoy views from a canoe, a peaceful journey, with views of wildlife and nature.. not lots of talking and putting up tents and other activities. sadly, others think this is necessary to include and it ruins the video.
But you! *Happy sigh* i love that this video is EXACTLY as you labeled it. it's just you kayaking and the views and sounds of the water & nature. it's so beautiful. wish other channels would take note and do the same.

풍경이 너무너무 아름답고 평화롭네요. 같이 카약을 타고싶은 마음이 드네요. 저도 한국에서 카약을 타고있지만 노르웨이의 풍경은 멋지네요.

This is how it should be. Kayaking in its purest form. A bit of the kayak showing and some paddling. Nicely edited and very scenic. I loved watching the kayak cut through some of the minor chop in the water. I have been looking for videos like this for a long long time. Even to the point I thought about getting a gopro and doing it myself. Some days when I'm working and the water feels too far away...this soothes that yearning beast. Really really well done. I hope you keep doing these.

How long did the 30 km take to paddle? you seem to keep good pace but its hard to guess with the cuts.
Beautiful place, thbks for showing us

Thank you. I used about 5 hours for the 34 km (17km one way). I had a 10 min break at the end of the fjord. I kayaked the last hour in the dark.

Thats pretty fast in my experience, granted I live in the with the waves and tides, so its different, but ur a champ for doing that time.
Thank you for filming it, its awesome

The Rockpool Taran 18 kayak is fast. The wing paddle also helps regarding fast speed. The roughest spot with currents and waves is about 1 hour from the parking. I wanted to pass that point on the way back before it got dark, and that motivated me to paddle faster
