    I do not like powdercoating on aluminum - I've seen too many failures in a marine environment. The least bit of oxide always creeps and grows, the coating holds in moistue once there, and soon... it flakes off big time. I'd rather throw high temp primer and enamel right after an acid wash [like alumaprep]. That is a pain of course because the case must be fully stripped, bushings and all. A coat of alodine to seal it is tempting, but... I don't know if it gets along with transmission heat that well over time except it gets a good paint job over it. Work fast, and in a dry [sub 40% humidity] environment. I tested an intake manifold pre-treated with alodine last year - so far so good: coated on top with a high temp primer and a ceramic enamel. The surface before priming is excellent: truly squeaky clean.

    Honestly, it's the coolers job to cool the fluid. If you are that concerned, get a bigger cooler. Having said that, the only conceivable issue to Me would be the heat treating of the aluminum alloy. Most aluminum high strength alloys are what's known as; "precipitation hardening." They take the part as cast and soak it at specific temperatures for specific times to achieve specific properties. The reason I mention it: Back in "The Eighties" there were three men who as dive buddies wanted their new aluminum tanks to match. They had them powder coated. The first ruptured while filling, killing both the guy and the shop owner. The DOT tracked down the remaining two and no one else died. Again, having said that, a 4L80 case is not a pressure vessel designed to contain 3000psi. There is no way I could imagine it making a difference at all. Not that big a fan of spending money to pretty up something you can only see on your back though. Maybe why I'm divorced.

    Doesnt the drum already have a bleed hole? Mines got a hole through very close to where you indicate to drill, that has as small ball bearing inside it...and another hole str8 through at the bottom of the wave disc seating area. Is this a rebuilt unit with an upgraded drum? Or factory? Should I still proceed with all the dual feed mods?

    powder coating is a personal preference if you like the way it looks of your vehicle have at it anyone else tries to tell you that it's going to be hard on parts and it's not going to do this it's going to help cause heating problems will guess what putting your foot three quarters of the way into the carburetor helps with heating problems well the radiators too small because my foot's stuck too far in the 1450 dominator believe me powder coating makes things look nicer heat is a product of using your toys if you spent all your money on the paint job and all well the motor transmission works I forgot to put a big enough radiator in there transmission cooler engine oil cooler I mean come on guys it looks nice powder coated

      every time you take that transmission apart to look at it it's foolish not to put new clutches in but you're trying to save money but I want to save time so by saving Time by putting new clutches in I don't have to take the transmission out in two years and replace them used clutches

    I interested on the rollerised project...I'm doing it and putting the sonnax case bushing install backwards is too deep in transmission. I read that it the perfect deep to hold shim and bearing , but it not.. Whit the OEM thickness mesurement shimmed bearing...bushing contact the output shaft ....i have use tci 224400 kit...i will probably knock out just a bit the bushing or sand it...

    When you drilled the hole in the clutch pack housing or drum, does that make a constant leak when pressurized? Since it is in the area of the piston under pressure for engaging the clutches.

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  5 років тому +5

      Yes, which is the point of it. At high rpm fluid builds up there and starts to creep the direct clutches on, they drag a bit. The little .060 hole allows the residual fluid to exit, and never makes a significant difference to volume when normally engaged

    • @Nutflame55
      @Nutflame55 2 роки тому

      but what does that mean? and why would I want softer shifts?

    • @prancstaman
      @prancstaman 2 роки тому +1

      @@Nutflame55 he's saying the pump provides more then enough fluid for proper engagement with the right pressure, plus still having the hole squirting out fluid while engaged. When not engaged then the fluid inside piston will drain out and not partially engage the piston. Same shift firmness to boot.

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  5 років тому +1

      Depends on the year, but if it fits, it ships. Mustangs are pretty easy because they already make SBC mounts for most of them, so I'd just use those and the LS/SBC adapter plates like ICT billet sells.
      Since you're wiring it standalone, it doesn't care what chassis it's in, 12v constant to the oranges, 12v switched to the pinks, and fuel to the rails and it'll run.
