We are thankful for the 2 beehives remaining-the other one was moved from its site in St Louis Park to a newly created park by Nordic Ware and restored along with the tables and benches.

The woman said the park is well used…I live in Robbinsdale and I never see anyone using the park. I only see RPD sitting there with a daily speed trap

For those wondering, the graffiti said FREE PALESTINE
I live nearby and drive by it almost every day.
I think it was on there less than 24 hours.

If you can't use it, what's the point?

The restoration of the rare 1940 Graeser Park beehive fireplace was part of a $500,000 restoration project by MnDOT's Historic Roadside Properties and Waysides Program. It took three years to restore the park using the Secretary of Interior Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties. It was honestly a miracle it was saved. It is now eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Decades of fires in the beehive fireplace caused massive damage. The metal grates were installed to avoid future damage after restoration. Bring a picnic, and enjoy this piece of history in Robbinsdale, it is one of only two Lilac Way beehive fireplaces left today. I have a volunteer project called Restore Lilac Way if you want to learn more.

That is not a fireplace. Its an oven. It is for baking bread.

The beehive fireplaces were built in 1940 as part of seven Lilac Way roadside parks. Similar ovens were used for baking bread, but these beehive fireplaces were always intended to be used as grills for picnics. Families roasted hot dogs, marshmallows, etc. in the three openings. They were designed by the MN Highway Department in 1937, and the openings did not have any grates on them until after the restoration of Graeser Park in 2023. Now the wire grates are there to prevent future damage.
