- Here is the first performance, practicing for the first CD recording and preparing the first edition of his organ works, of this splendid Fugue in A major by the twenty-year-old Venetian-German genius Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876-1948) where the model of BWV 536/2 (whose attribution to Bach is now disputed) is transfigured in that union of mystical impetus (typical of his Lutheran education), sweetness, sunshine, happiness of invention supported by the lulling character of the subject (partially given to him by his first wife, the American-German singer Clara Kilian).
A great contrapuntist (as his teacher Rheinberger considered him) outside the fashions of the time and isolated as on the other hand in all his compositional (chamber, theatrical and oratorio) output and as a thinker and aesthetician.
Matteo Messori, organ (built by Francesco Zanin)
