I'm a New Zealander who grew up at the same time as Peter Jackson. My family also got its first TV in 1965 and I adored Thunderbirds, Stingray, Fireball XL5 and later Captain Scarlet and Joe 90. I also saw Sinbad at an early age and was mesmerized. I still feel its special effects engage the childish imagination more than CGI could ever do.
My parents actually saw The Lord Of The Rings set, when they visited New Zealand, and I own just his first trilogy, but would love to get the rest. However, I own Ralph Bakshi's animated feature, which was co-wrote by Peter S. Beagle, who would write, and have his feature, The Last Unicorn, which I also own. Happy New Years, everyone!
I own over half the movies on his list, plus the LOTR and Hobbit movies, and Sir Peter's remake of "King Kong", oh well they can't all be winners. "Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad" is a lot of fun, and "Goodfellas" is serious and funny at the same time. A neat trick by Martin Scorsese, and Jackson knew it. Overall, a really smart list.
Spielberg, Scorsese, Harryhausen and the "Thunderbirds", and not Karel Zeman, this is not surprising for the "Ring"-master (what might have happened if the 8-year-old would have been watching Zeman´s "On the Comet" instead of 1933´s "King Kong", where is my time machine). What surprises me is the inclusion of Tarsem Singh´s "The Fall". No wonder, the "rest" of the world is missing, even Guillermo del Toro. No Tarkovski, no Parajanov, no Godard, no Ghatak, no Fellini, no Dreyer, no Bergman, no Buñuel, Chen Kaige, Zhang Yuang, Souleymane Cissé (did Jackson ever watch "Yeelen"?), Vincent Ward, no no no. Buster Keaton instead of Dziga Vertov - that´s telling enough. Let´s play. Let´s entertain. Isn´t Jackson´s Hollywood provincial (as well) - in its, yes, imperialistic drive?

The two THUNDERBIRDS feature films only did so well, but the RC series it is based on was and still is a huge hit.
“The Fall” is one of the most beautifully shot movies ever made and nobody has watched it. The story within the story is pretty fun as well.
I've never seen it but I might now.
Very beautiful but not the best movie, imo.
@ Yes.
Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter is underrated
But what about Ralph Bakshi's 'Lord of the rings' 1978???? surely that left a lasting impression on him😉
That is a very good list of movies.

JAWS-Yes~#1
I want Peter Jackson to go do an episode of Criterion’s closet. Guillermo Del Toro too. And Tim Burton.
All we want to see are lord of rings series 😮
You never heard of Roger Ebert and so you mispronounced his name? No one who worked on this caught that OBVIOUS mistake?
AI voice.
