@@andreaso8886 Same, I liked it. But the advertising was confused, and then you got the spoiler reviews, like that Cavill was not going to be much in it.
I presume it's not going to get a sequel. Which is bit of a pity, as that end stinger scene kind of looked potentially promising.
Okay, the spoiler alert should probably go here.
I think it might have worked better if the characters the main characters thinks she has imagined turned out to be "real" real, not just confused memories of her own past, and she had turned out to be somebody who knew them, so that we would have gotten the "real" "Argylle" Cavill at some point into the story, and that ending action sequence would have had four people in it, not just her and him. A lot of the complaints I have seen is that they wanted to see Cavill as a real James Bond type character in the movie, not just the imaginary version, and that Bryce Dallas Howard is not exactly a convincing action heroine these days being a bit overweight and so on, so having her as one in that group of four might have worked better than having her suddenly turn into some sort of superspy, comedy or not, especially since she didn't show any real signs of those skills before she had her memories returned. With memory loss stories you kind of expect that the character would show some of those skills before she gets her memories back, and be surprised by them, as a foreshadowing that that might be the case.

Megalopolis should not really be on the list as "Hollywood" (the studios and businesses behind big mainstream movies) did not want it and did not put up a lot of money to make or distribute it. It was mostly all Francis Ford Coppola who is definitely not Hollywood anymore and hasn't been one of their guys for a while.

Costner quit the most popular series since GOT to make a boring ego-fest of a movie that wasn't interesting as a western or a personality piece. That had to be the biggest blunder on this list--going from spectacularly successful to epic boredom, and the worst part is that much of the loss came from Costner's own pocket. Joker 3 will be revealed to be Arthur at the end of his treatment, realizing everything he just experienced was a torture fantasy. Do you know the definition of a hit film ? It must earn 3x its production costs.
The distribution costs, are usually where the accountants work their magic to push up "extra" costs, to nibble at the box office returns, and screw over the investors who are meant to share everything it makes above the 3x times production cost.
Also, producers will sometimes try and sneak a Private Yacht into the production costs.

There have been many films/movies that were considered better than the original. Titanic 1997 vs '53, The Mummy 1983vs '32, The Thing 1982 vs '51, Scarface 1983 vs '32. That's was just a very small example of some remakes can be better than the original.

I liked Megalopolis. Very silly, very intriguing in equal measure.

Gotta ask yourself how many of these flops could have been successful if woke Hollywood didn't tic off half their potential audience. 🤷‍♂️

I loved Argylle ; I hope it will become a cult classic later on (as many cult classic movies were box office fails when they were released ).

I haven't even heard of a lot of those movies. I'm not Hollywood filming making guy or a comic book guy but, making the Joker into a musical???? I knew that would bomb. Kind of stupid, they made OZ, about how the wizard of Oz got to Oz but, it didn't have any music.
One of the things loved about the Wizard of Oz was the music.

Seems to me Hollywood has run out of ideas. Marvel/superheroes drek, Gladiator 2 why? Etc etc don’t they make films for grown ups anymore? Studios don’t seem to want to take a chance on a script that they don’t think will make them a ton of money.

Some of these movies were not that bad. I think there has been a culture change brought about by streaming in which people don't go to cinemas anymore. Something similar happened when television rolled out in the early 1950s. Hollywood to survive needs to trim the fat and cut costs. Also there needs to be a new business model for releasing video entertainment. In the 1950s the two solutions were to show movies that were physically impossible to display properly on a TV screen (e.g. Panavision) or deal with subject matter too daring to be shown on TVs at the time (the 1960s new cinema).

I never even heard of "Here" or many of the others. Henry Cavil and Alan Ritchson were the only reason I watched "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare". They were the best thing about the movie. The rest was trash.

Back in the day, they’d make a movie that was so good, we’d see it multiple times. There hasn’t been anything like that at the cinema in years! I can’t see even bothering buying a ticket and driving to the theater for any of these current woke DEI flicks!! Hollywood went nuts over the Trump phenomenon! There’s always old movies and indies. That’s what the theater owners need to start showing.

A lot of the issue with these poor showings had nothing to do with the movies themselves. Combine a horrible economic condition, where people cannot afford to pay rent, house payments, buy groceries, etc..., with a huge, growing disdain for Hollywood in general because of their woke ideology, which disgusts the sane public, and you have a recipe for low box office draw.
