Every time I see JM Weston I think of the Dandies in the Congo. These look really nice and robust!

Great choice BTW. I have a couple of 180's and other models. They're not cheap, but they last forever. Money well spent congrats!

I own a few JMWs and they age in an amazing way.

Congratulations! Although it sounds like the purchase process was an ordeal. Glad to hear your persistence paid off.
I believe Weston had their own tannery which they eventually sold to Hermes. Apparently a deal was struck whereby Weston still gets the hides they want.
I would not pass any judgment on the half-hunts until you have worn them at least 2 months. In my experience the break in period is extensive because the soles are stiff right out of the box.
I purchased my first pair - 180 moccasins in black box calf - when a was a very young pup back in 1986 (showing my age…). I loved those shoes but ended up parting with them because major brands didn’t offer restoration services back in the day.
If you’re still collecting three pairs from each brand, I would definitely recommend the 180 mocs along with a pair of “golfs”. This way, you will have covered the most iconic Weston models.
I have fond memories of all the fun I had wearing those 180’s. By today’s standards there many high end shoemakers now that make more finesse shoes (which you know much better than most) but I love the Weston brand and always will.
Thanks for another great video and wear those Westons in good health!

Thanks much. Weston used to own Du Puy, but sold it to Hermès. They still get preferential choice of leathers I’m told.

Very interesting shoes! Congrats on finally getting a pair. They seem very hefty, kind of Alden vibes.

I like those shoes! It’s interesting how French shoe companies sometimes use English names, such as John Lobb or JM Weston… BTW the JM Weston brand is on top of the French shoe makers, right there with John Lobb, Aubercy and Maison Corthay…

it's actually an american name, because the welting technique, goodyear, is a US invention.
the founder learned the technique in the US and named it after the place in the US where he stayed at.

Do you find that these shoes are quite stiff? I just picked up the same Half Hunt's in black and this has got to be a the least flexible shoe I've ever experienced. I went TTS and it is roomy but I suspect a half size down would be too small for me.
I suspect the double sole paired the very stiff uppers will be a long break in. My heel is almost fully exiting the shoe but I wonder if you experienced something similar.

Yes I did but the soles did break and the leather upper softened after only a day
