Thanks for sharing, looks like a interesting place, I'm sure alot of us Northerners have never heard of Imber Village, I certainly hadn't. Love your dog, looks like a Akita? but when you showed its head through the pub window his markings were more husky looking. I'm curious because I used to own a Japanese Akita myself in the late 80s, not as well known in those days, but still a lovely dog. Anyway, hope you had a great Christmas and have a Very happy new year PEACE :-)

hi great vid.. almost watch all your vids so far :) .. we have a village called Tyneham on the Dorset coast In November 1943 notice was given to the villagers that they would be required to leave within 28 days as the area was needed for forces’ training. They never returned to there village after the war as the mod use it long after for training and is still part of the ranges. Intresting place.. i guess that area is not far off the green lanes which is one of the runs im planning in my 4x4 win green to stonehenge via salisbury plain.. atb Joe

Firstly, great video of the lost village of Imber, in lovely Wiltshire.
Reference the former residents. You rightly pointed out that any family from the past village can get into Imbers church to remember their loved ones, whom reside in the grave yard. As far as the evacuation is concerned, you've got that one wrong. Back in 1943 their was a live firing exercise around the village area. During this exercise, a US fighter pilot got lost, and accidentally killed 25 people in an headquarters, one of which was an US Brigadier General (one star General). After the exercise the powers at be, decided that it was too dangerous to have the civilian population in the village. So, were, evacuated, with a promise that they could return after hostilities of the second World War. Unfortunately, by 1945, the UK had a new government (Labour), and because they were broke couldn't afford all the promises that had been made during the war. Plus, the war department didn't want to give the village back. A similar thing happened to farmers, stately home owners, and others whom had their land taken over for war uses. Imber, along with other villages, especially on the south coast (D DAY preparations), had now fully operational training area around them. So, they deemed it unsafe for their return, using unexploded ordinance, and the houses had been re-purposed, as you mentioned. There was a programme back in the day about all this which included Michael Portillo . Who mentioned that there wasn't a year where Imber, and the other villages weren't in their in trays for one reason, or another.
As an ex serviceman l have done exercises in the area. The history of the village was always a mystery to us at the time.
Thanks for the additional information. Gratefully appreciated.
