She thought they were great at one point too, though. So some day, you'll look at the ones that are great for you now, and you'll realize how much you've learned and grown. Don't compare your day 1 to someone else's day 100 :)
alex Damn dude how many comments are you going to keep replying to with that same negative response "alot of these photos are awful though"? What are you trying to establish from doing so? Cause it seems quite pointless to hash out negativity everywhere.
I don't think that you should ALWAYS go for the wow factor. I've seen many minimalistic and simple photos that were very calming to me. Loved the concept of the video, though. It's always good to reflect on your past work and see what you did wrong and continually try to improve.
I write this when I've only seen 3 minutes of the video, which is the first one I see. I just love your energy, so much happiness and I don't even feel overload with it ! It's very nice to see !
I don't believe in "bad" pictures. The old pictures of the oversaturated sky to me in my eyes is the most beautiful. I think we judge our skills based on what our style is. You might not like the oversaturation, but for someone like me it's a masterpiece.
pile333 every time my mom shows me a picture that is so clearly photoshopped and she’s always so excited like “Erin, look at this place, we need to go!” Or “wow, looks how big this dog is!” My reaction is always “mom....no”
A bit late, but i actually think some work she did back then was good and personnal, yes there was cheap effect and esthetic but what she does know is just so unpersonnal and actually pretty basic, just go on unsplash (website with high res jpeg with no copyright) and it's basically her portofolio but by other random "hipster photographers" if i had to find a word for it. Idk it's just for the sake of beauty but there is nothing behind it, no intention, she seems to barely think about composition and lights... Maybe that's just my studies in Art School that made such an elitist but what's the point of doing postcard photography with some filters other that feel good about yourself ?
Sein Louis I totally agree. I'm by no means an expert photographer myself but I'm slowly building up a portfolio and experiment with many different subjects and styles. My favorite out of all of her work shown here; past and present; are the bikini in the snow shots. Especially the one of her isolated in the middle on a towel. Just beautiful composition, fun, original idea, and full of personality! Everything else is rather bland.
Rebecca F Rebecca F This one in particular has a good composition and classic proportions, so it works well, the subject is at the first third of the image it's a classic rule and the sky begins at the second, having two third of background/sky in a landscape is a good balance used a a basic rule too, the eventual problem is that there is no second plan but the fact that its in the snow and the sky kinda confond with the ground works good as it gives a minimalistic back almost like in a studio. Unfortunately one photography doesnt give a personnality to a photographer, everyone can make a good photography once in a while, the photography is good but not great and the rest of the project was treated pretty poorly, as if it was just her in underwear in the snow, which is a bland subject for a project. And it's a shame that from a trip in such an environment she only made one good photography. Also even if following the rules isnt necessary, you have to know and master them in the first place for you to be able to stand out, which she obvioulsy doesn't.
Peter Cheng I just explained why this photo worked better than others, i also stated that technic is not an end in itself but is an imperative to be able to create and innovate properly. Almost every artists mastered the technics before becoming artists themselves. But yeah you sure got great arguments !
You showcasing your old work is helping me get back into my photography. I'm still a beginner but I have to realize that everyone starts somewhere and that I can still find a few gems in my slightly more recent photos. Thank you!
or maybe cause she can see the photo in higher resolution and the flaws are more obvious to her. you cant really see points about focus the way she presented it
I mean the photos she showed were pretty bad. All bland, cliche and just straight out bad. So yes you may have to work on your taste if you were impressed by these.
This is the first ever video i saw of yours a few months ago after it randomly popped in my suggestions. I'm SO GLAD it happened! I've spent probably the last few hours just going through all of your instagram photos again and seeing that evolution happen. I genuinely love your view of life and how you chose not to waste away like a lot of us do. Truly inspirational.
Omg that's exactly what I needed to see and hear today. It mostly made me realise why my photos suck :D But realise like in a good way. Motivational. So thank you Sorelle

Speaking from my own experiences as a photographer: It pretty much comes down to taking lots and lots of photos, with a lot of time for reflection and learning in between.
I think it’s so important to look back on what you used to creatively produce to see how far you’ve come and inspire you to keep going. Sometimes I look back on the stuff I used to make and cringe so much but it also makes me feel good about myself in how I’ve grown. I’m sure I’ll look back in a couple of years and cringe at the stuff I make now 😂❤️❤️
i love what you said about being interested where you can go based on your improvement in just the last year, this is a great positive way to think about things, keep going!
This is so relatable Sorelle! You've improved so much and your humility and honesty is wonderful! I was pretty bad at photography for years, but I'm teaching myself and slowly getting better. If you are a beginner reading this, don't give up and keep getting better by watching tutorials from good photographers, reading books and taking courses if you can, and practice, practice, practice. You'll realize that taking good photos gradually becomes second nature to you. I can recommend these channels - The Art of Photography, Practical Photgraphy, Digital Rev, Kai W, Mike Browne, Peter McKinnon. There are so many other great channels and tutorials online which are great resources. Do watch them and keep taking photos and learning from your mistakes.
LOVE UR STYLE.. And what you're saying about feeling bad and tired of it fits me so well right now. so it's nice to hear that it's just a face if you really like to take pictures. Thank u so much !
she is so amazing and radiant... her energy is sooooooo right. Shes pushing me to try new things. Thank you for being you . i shall post this on all the videos of you that i watch just to make sure you see this and know we appreciate you.
I swear Sorelle, your energy is absolutely contagious. you've made me so much more excited about photography and I thought I had died out of that ''phase''. but screw that, i'm ready to hop back on that boat. Thanks love!
It's as original as it gets. Never saw similar photos. Obviously something similar has been done because everything has been done already, but it's way more original than a mirror selfie, for sure.
your words at the end truly helped me out, lately ive been feeling so uncreative and not happy with my shoots and how they were coming out. but this reminded me tohang in there and keep doing my thing. thanks for that you're awesome
I'm going to study photography this year and I'm soooooooo terrified because "I'm not good enough" or whatever. But your video give me a little bit of hope for this year, maybe I happen to be an amazing photographer, and even if I'm not at least I'm gonna try. Thanks for the positive vibes sorele ♥
Do try and do not give up! I had the exact thoughts as you when I started taking photography seriously. There were times when I was pretty horrified but I did keep teaching myself stuff. It's part of the learning process of anything. My photos were total crap when at first, but I can see myself improving and making photos that are not bad or are actually good. Best of luck and keep practicing!!!
Sorelle Amore, you are unique. Best one I could think of. Like there should be more people like you on this planet. You are officially one of my inspiration after Peter.
Recently found myself in a rut with photography putting in a lot of effort to minimal reward but I really appreciated this video made me realise why I got into photography in the first place. This really found me at the perfect time, Thank you!
there really is a huge difference between people who know and dont know photography 😂 i say that with no disrespect whatsoever, it's just that someone who understands photography can appreciate the knowledge and techniques needed to take that second photo so much more. the older photo, anyone can take that with an iPhone
Thank you! You motivate me to return to photography and try to improve, because it's not something you are good at immediately, or even after taking classes with the best-paid photographer in your country. It might take years or even a decade to become good at it, but it's worth the time, patience and work you put into it.
I think constructive criticism is amazing and what helps us grow but I don't think your past pictures deserved that negativity! Its amazing to see you grow as a photographer but don't forget that if you never took those pictures you wouldn't be here in the first place. Tbh i thought some of those old pictures were quite nice :) Im glad your photography has grow so much though!
I absolutely loved your comments throughout this video! Especially from 8:32-8:42; I had to laugh so bad haha:D Oh and you definitely made an improvement, your photographs look really good now :) Great video, as always, I love your positivity! Love from Germany
as a person who also started photography "a long time ago" I feel like our way of appreciating reality turns more complex every time we take a photo. Notice how simple and "boring" your original photos were. Yet, from time to time, you find one particular photo that turns out to be way better than every other before. And this fact turns you into a better photographer. You start paying attention to crucial details that make a difference. Each time more than ever before. In conclusion, I think in order to be a good photographer, you must do it over and over again, and learn from people that you consider to be an inspiration. All the photos you take in your life are important but at different times. Your old photos were important and meant so much back in the days, and now, it doesn't seem like they did. But that is part of evolution, and one must accept this idea. Glad I found your channel ;)
I can't believe I just now found you! I love your realness and personality. I haven't laughed, cried, and have so many light bulb moments from one UA-camr haha.
I just came across your channel today and BOY AM I GLAD I DID! I love your personality and tips and the way you explain things! I have been trying to love my photos and to be better at them by learning the different ways of adjusting my camera and just trying something new! I have your videos in my watch later box and know I will love them!
I FUCKING LOVE YOU Never heard of you before but i dont mind it. Your energy is amazing. I loved this video. I'm an amateur photographer and I really hope I'll be able to live out of it and travel and do this kind of things and you gave me such a great energy like GOD YOU'RE AMAZING
Hey! So I'm just getting started in photography. Four months in, try to do photoshoots every weekend and fully enjoy it to do that. And yes I've had many moments where I struggle and coudn't figure out how to do certain things. But it is because of you amazing guys on youtube that I learn new things every day, keep inspired and doing my very best to get better!
I immediately subscribed after watching this video. It's my first time watching you, but your enthusiasm and smile is contagious and effective and wholesome and something I'd like to keep seeing as long as you make videos! Thank you for your words of wisdom!
Sorelle, I just discovered your channel and instagram recently and you have so quickly become such a source of inspiration for me. As a grad student, my life is non-stop science right now and I feel like I'm in a continuous creative rut. I love this video of yours in particular because I always thought of photography as kind of an "innate" skill and would wonder if it would be worth my time to try improving. Thanks for the inspiration to never stop improving and to be more comfortable in my style and skin.
You're one of the people who has inspired my photography! I've been working on getting a better camera than the one on my phone, so I know I've got a lot to learn still. I like what you said about the shots that got you well known, I'm going to try to think of what I can do to differentiate myself now. if you have time to check out my Instagram I'd love to hear any critiques you might have. My username is mountain_bunny :) thanks for your encouragement!
Awesome work gurl! Checked out your Instagram. Lovely pictures in there. I would say now you're ready to move onto simplification. Try to have 2/3 elements in your photo wherever possible. So aka - one sky, one person, one plane (just like my last Instagram post). Or the glacier image that I talk about in the video - my hand holding the ice, the ice itself and the sunset. Simple images are always easier to digest. And secondly look into editing and developing your own style now so people know it's your work the minute they see it (I'm still perfecting this step for myself, takes a while). Good luck and have fun with the process!
I loooove this video! Thanks for the inspiration, this means alot for a beginner photographer who looses confidence from time to time. I've been following your stuff for months now and have been so inspired. Please keep going!
El Abuelo I think that through the years there were some trends, so it looks like now all photos are same but they used to be in the same style 5 years ago too. Just trends changed and also now it feels more like it because of social media
I literally always have to remind myself to trust the process. I'm still in full-time education (completely unrelated degree) so I really can't wait for the period in my life where I am able to fully devote my time to the creative process. I LOVE videos like this Sorelle, it helps people see that we really can do it - as long as we set our minds to it.
I love seeing the progress you have made in 2 years! I look back on the photos I used to take when i thought I was really good and well.... you're not alone in your "old photo shame". :D
1. Your actual fucking video doesn't start till like 3 mins in. If there's anything in this video that actually deserves being criticized it's that. 2. The video is more about how much you *personally* don't like your older photos. Some of them are pretty good. You just changed styles. 3. The message of the video isn't quite clear. The initial message of the video sort of tells early photographers that their photos aren't very good, because you made it out like your early photos weren't good AT ALL. (Which is not the case.) But then, at the end of the video, you tried to give a message to *encourage* photographers to keep pushing. I feel like the video sort of contradicted itself. But hey that's just my opinion.
I definitely lost my passion after studying photography but watching video's like this reminds me of how far i've come also. I have the same reaction to most of my earlier work and really hope to start shooting images that I can be proud of the same way you are. Thank you for this, definitely a push in the right direction!
I'm interested in art since forever, but I never was that interested in being a photographer. I love drawing/painting and that's what I'm really passionate about, but recently I watched so many videos on youtube about photography and this is soooo interesting! So I really wanna do something with photography as well
You are AMAZING and I love how much you have progressed. I can't believe I didn't think of doing photos like that when I was in Finland... but I'm now inspired to start photography again, so thank you!
You are so inspirational. I am halfway there in the sense that I totally understand what your are saying. Keep searching, keep learning, keep improving, and meeting you on UA-cam is giving me a massive kick in the bum and i've learnt so much in 2 days watching your videos that i am now ready for next step! I've only been 3 years into photography from no where to where I am today and I thanks you for being just yourself, spiritual and inspirational. I wish I had as much confidence than you but as you said let go of the worries and just let it be! I will definitely try my first selfie ASAP thanks to your advices!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH and keep going beauty xxx
your comments about copying and mimicking were really heartening . . . . . . . I had an incident at art school last year regarding “attempting to steal an idea” (which I don’t want to get too into cause I’ll get depressed again) but I was really heartbroken and questioned myself so much because mimicking was how I learned my skills that got me into college in the first place. Anyways your comments about copying and mimicking were really heartening.
I am so proud of you! I watched your videos since the beginning and seeing how you rise in every single way is so amazing and inspiring. I love your photos and I am just unbelievably happy for you!
Thank you for taking the time in details your process when you first started in terms of how much time you would spend on it and your mental process through it all it is so so relatable and so so inspiring, love you always
This video just popped up on my feed and since I love photography I decided to watch. And within the first 15 sec I decided to subscribe. You have such a fun and bubbly personality and your photos are so pretty. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos.
Absolutely awesome work! You know you're growing as an artist when you look back at your old work and go "uggghhh! What was I thinking?!?". Love your work, definitely inspiring!
I often get stuck in the ' I just don't have the eye' stage when I'm not happy with my photography- as if the skill is something you are born with and if I don't have it then I might as well give up now. Thank you so much for showing us your old work, and reminding us that it is a skill that you can grow with hard work. It really inspiring to know that someone who produces such beautiful photos started at a base level too, I'm going to go pick up my camera again.
inspired by how you keep on improving and now becoming an amazing artist all wrapped into one I hope its not late for me to try to grow and bring out what’s best for me! Keep on inspiring Sorelle xx
ADORE this video!! What a pleasure to see someone so genuinely talking about their journey and admitting that its not a bad thing to copy peoples work in the pursuit of growth! xx
Your last words were so inspiring. I feel like I suck, all the time. But thanks to what you said, I feel like I can grow too, so I’m not giving up just yet. Thank you so much!
Okay wait. I wish I had seen this prior to going on vacation because I am now so inspired by you and your work. i've never thought about my instagram or content in the same way that you do and I am just floored by your approach. Makes me want to get more serious about photography. Thank you.
You have inspired me to keep going. I am in the beginning stages of over-saturation or boring photographs but I will not stop! Growth growth growth is key!
I love this. I just discovered you this morning and I subscribed within the first minute of the video. I love your style and how you present yourself on camera - so positive and genuine. This made my day! I've always had an interest in photography but recently stopped because I didn't think I was good enough. I may not be great or even relatively good yet but this gave me inspiration to keep going. Keep it up!
Oh boi. If you call those photos bad I don't even want to think about my own crappy photos...
omg! i know!
nah they were terrible
same. there goes any confidence i ever had
a lot of these were pretty bad though
She thought they were great at one point too, though. So some day, you'll look at the ones that are great for you now, and you'll realize how much you've learned and grown. Don't compare your day 1 to someone else's day 100 :)
I wish you would have explained more of what was wrong with the old pictures and how they could have been better
sean hurley yes... because the old pics look great to me
@@Yonicolaa yea like the lion one..I was like I'd be happy if I took that!
they were super saturated and the composition was not that good
They were over saturated, out of focus and I guess they lack story...

i was thinking the same !!
Fucking normies
She has that Jim carey smile...

I must be super shit at photography because I think all your old photos look great! 😂

Music & Munchies That’s what I was thinking😂
Music & Munchies me too. I thought they were great too. They remind me of my photos now. 🙂😕
a lot of these photos are awful though.

She looks like the little girl form monsters inc when she’s older
Hahahah. I'm so ok with that! Haha
i was thinking more like that baby sitter in the incredibles :)
Yet I think she's a beauty.
She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in that movie where she works in a bookstore in Paris and they turn her in to a fashion model
I don't think that all of your old pics sucked, but either way, I love your style and your evolution!
True
Studying geology, having some paleontology and I tell you. I look at shells and go WOOOAW !! Shells are not boring xD
Xemitz most people on Instagram don’t study paleontology or geology though...
Same. I was like “woaahh” right before she said that haha
Holy fuuuu :D :D I fully understand u but that sounds so nerdy, haha :D :D :D

I'm actually amazed how unreal objects, created by 3d graphics can be inserted today into real photos and videos without viewers even noticing it.

Take a look at the most expensively sold photo, it was even artificially simplified, of course to add to its value
Thank you for your joy, your vision and your photos, it is just so refreshing and powerful!
Can you do a video about tipps to get better in photography , and how to make good pictures?
Great Video sorelle!
Speaking from my own experiences as a photographer: It pretty much comes down to taking lots and lots of photos, with a lot of time for reflection and learning in between.
It’s so nice to see such a happy smiley and real persona to match the artistic style, rather than someone who’s all about their art solely ☺️

HAHAHAHAH! That's so funny. I think it's necessary for some to play it at that speed because I speak so fast. Haha
You're fine. Don't change a thing. Thank you again for your wonderful videos. 🙂
Almost true, I had to watch at .75 to understand.
Your smile makes me more passionate about photography. This inspire me to make more photos and never stop learning.

"One is clearly beautiful,"
I seriously can't tell which one you're talking about. Help. They're both beautiful.
Recently found myself in a rut with photography putting in a lot of effort to minimal reward but I really appreciated this video made me realise why I got into photography in the first place. This really found me at the perfect time, Thank you!
When she’s comparing the photos at 8:12 I prefer the old one
Annileta the old one looked more serene to me
the background looks more natural in the old one
MaO Captain yeahhhh
Same
there really is a huge difference between people who know and dont know photography 😂 i say that with no disrespect whatsoever, it's just that someone who understands photography can appreciate the knowledge and techniques needed to take that second photo so much more. the older photo, anyone can take that with an iPhone
I love, love your witty yet honesty. Thanks for giving many hope!
She left her own face in the frame front and center as much as possible. I'm just here to see the photos, but they're so small...
I love your way of motivating everyone watching this. Giving us the opportunity to learn from your journey. Thank you so much! 💕
When her worst pictures are better than my best ones! Lol 😰
You always, ALWAYS inspire me. I love listening to you and see you improving. Thank you!
I absolutely loved your comments throughout this video! Especially from 8:32-8:42; I had to laugh so bad haha:D
Oh and you definitely made an improvement, your photographs look really good now :)
Great video, as always, I love your positivity!
You call your old shots boring just because you changed your style. But, were you improving your work without trying?
I can't believe I just now found you! I love your realness and personality. I haven't laughed, cried, and have so many light bulb moments from one UA-camr haha.
You look like Mila Jovovich, u should really audition for action movies, i bet you'll be one badass heroin/villain
Ugh...I love this.
I just came across your channel today and BOY AM I GLAD I DID! I love your personality and tips and the way you explain things! I have been trying to love my photos and to be better at them by learning the different ways of adjusting my camera and just trying something new! I have your videos in my watch later box and know I will love them!
I FUCKING LOVE YOU
Never heard of you before but i dont mind it. Your energy is amazing. I loved this video. I'm an amateur photographer and I really hope I'll be able to live out of it and travel and do this kind of things and you gave me such a great energy like GOD YOU'RE AMAZING
Iv had braces for 1 day now. been in pain. and your smile and laughter of making fun of your photos wiped that away. subbed. awesome person.
If I had your teeth I would never stop smiling.
If I had your accent I would never shut up 😁
Love the this video and the photos you took in the snow where amazing, loved it!
I immediately subscribed after watching this video. It's my first time watching you, but your enthusiasm and smile is contagious and effective and wholesome and something I'd like to keep seeing as long as you make videos!
Thank you for your words of wisdom!
look at caisey neistat most recent thumbnail, it appeared at my feed next to each other :o
Hahaha. Well firstly being next to Casey, I don't mind. Secondly, so damn similar. Haha.

I like people with big smile. Having a big smile is like a gift. 😊😊😊
Funny how before you had your own style and now your photos look like everyones on Instagram...
Could you speak faster !
Just joking if you're having trouble with the speed, dummy, adjust it. Set it to 1.5 if you think she's too slow or .75 to slow her down.
(Which is not the case.)
But then, at the end of the video, you tried to give a message to *encourage* photographers to keep pushing.
Thank you for this, definitely a push in the right direction!
stop doing coke
Floris Fiedeldij Dop AND diet coke
stop bleaching your teeth
She said before that she doesn't bleach her teeth
THANK YOU SO MUCH and keep going beauty xxx
your comments about copying and mimicking were really heartening

I had an incident at art school last year regarding “attempting to steal an idea” (which I don’t want to get too into cause I’ll get depressed again) but I was really heartbroken and questioned myself so much because mimicking was how I learned my skills that got me into college in the first place. Anyways your comments about copying and mimicking were really heartening.
I am so proud of you! I watched your videos since the beginning and seeing how you rise in every single way is so amazing and inspiring. I love your photos and I am just unbelievably happy for you!
Thank you, I honestly was at a point where I wanted to put the camera away for good but this has been so motivating. 💜💜 Thank you
Thank you for taking the time in details your process when you first started in terms of how much time you would spend on it and your mental process through it all it is so so relatable and so so inspiring, love you always
It really inspiring to know that someone who produces such beautiful photos started at a base level too, I'm going to go pick up my camera again.
omg seeing the happines in your voice idk just made me tear up honestly photography is a1
Watching this has instilled so so so much hope in me. I kept pausing to think things through and you just made so much sense. I related 100% thANK YOU
inspired by how you keep on improving and now becoming an amazing artist all wrapped into one I hope its not late for me to try to grow and bring out what’s best for me!
You just gave me hope about my work. I am still in the begining of the learning curve. Thank you for sharing xx
Growth growth growth is key!
your passion, positivity and motivation inspire me and keep me going.. thank you!
AMAZING!!! For someone who was been following you since the beginning, to see how far you come is amazing! Keep up the amazing work!!!
Keep it up!
