I’ve got 12 tattoos from the book of Kells. I’m Irish, I’m Orthodox and I love the ancient Irish social order (the brehon order) which was so conducive to the spread of Orthodoxy in those years and centuries hitherto the ultramontanes Norman invasion.
My applause to you brother in Christ!
I am an English catechumen for the Greek Orthodox Church.
Funnily enough I’m currently reading a lot on “the life of Wilfrid”, which Iona and lindisfarne feature quite often in, alongside their many famous theologians such as columba, Finan, Aidan, tuda ! And there’s no forgetting the service Iona played in keeping safe our St Oswald while in his youth
It has always been a wonder to me how an isle such as yours, on the edge of the world with so little could have contributed so much for our faith. It could have only been done through pure devotion which we owe a lot to these men for.
😮😁👍
"Beauty will save the world"... Dostoevsky...
God is beauty
💯
My wife traveled to Ireland a couple of years ago and came home raving about the beauty of the countryside, castles and churches and especially the book of Kells she had seen at Trinity College. Now I understand why.
Trinity College, the iconic LIBRARY, the Irish Harp of Brian Boru AND The Book of Kells, all within a short walk from each other, and Dublin's St. Patrick's Cathedral and National Gallery of Ireland are nearby. Glorious!
Yes, I would love to listen to more episodes about illuminated manuscripts. Thank you so much ❤️
"The Secret of Kells" [2009] is a very beautiful animated movie that is a fictional telling of creating the book with some fantasy elements.
I was disappointed how they took faith out of it. None of the monks even mention prayer or God once. Their animation is amazing though.
I watched the Secret of Kells. It is so beautiful and very neat, worth a watch.
I couldn’t agree more. Have recommended it numerous times.
An incredible movie!
Do more episodes like this, Id love to hear about more monumental christian art!
I really love the illustrations in the Anglo-Saxon Junius Manuscript which contains all sorts of poems, many of which are poetic retellings of events in Church history or Scripture, like Cynewulf’s Ascension (Christ II) which is one of my favorites.
This is crazy. I’ve just been obsessing over medieval illuminated manuscripts. The Queen Mary Psalter is another beautiful one! Thank you for this video. Glory to God!
Our GOD did truly fill the world with beautiful things and your channel is one of them!💎
Always learning something new and wonderful from you. Thank you and than GOD for your work. Never heard of this book but now my curiosity is piqued so will look it up.
May GOD open wide the doors of all blessings to you that you may continue to be a blessing to all of us💙🙏💙✝️✝️✝️💛❤️💛
Exquisite!! Amazing episode.
Thank you! An enjoyable one to make because we could get a little lost in the stunning pages
@Patristix .. I'm watching a documentary on it now. The detail contained in it is beyond stunning.
Lovely praise be to GOD OUR FATHER🙏🙏🌺🌺
It would be a worthy topic
I recommend to anyone who is looking to find out more on the orthodox Irish tradition of Iona and lindisfarne, read the Anglo-Saxon biography “the life of wilfrid”.
A propaganda piece yes, but it is an excellent insight on the politics surrounding religion between the Irish and Roman ways. It features many famous Irish scholars and monks of our great Lord so it’s even better!
I've been aware3 of the Book of Kells for most of my life. I finally got to view it in 2002. Gorgeous.
I was able to view a page of the Book of Kells years ago ago at Trinity College. I was able to get quite close to it and could have spent hours studying all the details of the page it was opened to. A spiritual experience, to be sure.
Yes yes, please make a video about the book from Lindesfarne. I'll watch with my son (named after St. Aidan)
Sounds good!
@Patristix thank you. I will leave you with a compliment. Many protestants that I have shared the Patristix videos with have enjoyed them. You formulate things in a way that is seemingly unisveral and easy to grasp.
Really appreciate that, thank you so much!
Me too. Aidan would love it!
I would love to learn more! I don’t know much about illuminated texts, and this seems like a rabbit hole worth going down :)
Thank you. Please make tor them also
how unbelievably wonderful. what a terrible heartbreak that it was vandalized. ❤❤❤❤❤ thank you so much.

*Manuscript:* anything written down by hand on pages.
TRUTH, GOODNESS, & BEAUTY. We take great care to know the truth, and may even give great efforts to be "good"--but where is the effort to display beauty and form tastes for true beauty in our culture and young people today?
Ilove learning about these ancient works ! Thank you
Yes. I would love to hear more.
Thank you again.
I really enjoyed this talk, and its focus on the purpose of the book - to bring glory to God and draw people's hearts to his beauty.
Thank you for watching. Come back tomorrow for an episode on the Lindisfarne Gospels! Another stunning work in praise of God
Thank-U... too... too.. Beautiful... Glory to God for ALL things... xxx Glory to Father... Son .. and Holy Spirit 🙏 🕯 maryOfEgypt

Hello, mate. I request that you do one on Our Lady of Walsingham. It's similarly among the ladder Orthodox things to come from the British isles. Well, until more contemporary times, I suppose. ☦️
100th episode special??
Great episode! Thank you.
Glad you liked it! Stay tuned for one on the stunnin Lindisfarne Gospels hopefully in a month or so

Would you consider doing a video on The Book of Durrow?
Can you do a video on blessed Saint King Arthur Of Camelot ❤
🙏🙏🙏
WOW
Can you buy a copy of this book
You go ahead with Lindisfarne gospels and the rest please. I will be much apprechiated by many I am sure. (May I ask, was there Orthodox Christians on the British isles through history and if so when and where?)
There is some static in your audio on this one. Just wanted to let you know.
I think its on purpose for the vibe
Yes! The vibe! (Actually it was raining... but the vibes were nice)
Enjoyed the video. However, it's a myth that the pages of the book are changed every day. Originally the book was in one piece, containing the four gospels of the new testament. It was split into the four seperate gospels in 1953. The book of the gospel (currently Matthew) whose pages are on display at any time, is rested approx. every eight weeks, and two pages from another gospel are then put on display. The book chosen for display follows the pattern of Matthew, Mark, Luke, then John. So, Mark will be displayed next, then Luke and so on. The two pages currently on view were last on display over 30 years ago.
