This is the first window we've had in Michigan to cut hay but of course I had to wait because of off farm work and today thunderstorms are rolling through.
Beautiful alfalfa. You’re a couple of weeks…maybe three…ahead of us. We like a haybine for alfalfa too but Mr discbine is a grass eating monster. The agony of decision…racing rain for dry hay. Nice you have a wet bale option. This is the time of year you need three times as many cows for all the pasture. I’d like to borrow some😅.
You answered my question on why you're using the old haybine instead of the disk. How come the disk wouldn't get a good cut on that matte? I guess that reel helping out for a clean cut. Heck of an alfalfa crop! We're just getting started here, the grass is decent for a change this year but the falf is disappointing so far... something stunted it, not sure if it was from the hail/snow or a bit of frost at some point dinged it. Kinda short and not as much volume as it should have. Still should probably average out. Been very dry for the past 2 weeks and LOTS of wind... gawd 😅
We bought a 5209 New Idea on a farm I was working on in the late 90s for $14,000. Agco still makes it under the Massey Ferguson name. It was a great discbine but last I looked it was selling for $35,000.
We found a window and got dry hay put up. Got lucky there. Heading out tomorrow to replant beans. Cold and wet after planting…
Nice, oof..

Good luck
I have been trying to be dedicated to the farm this spring but I am getting my butt kicked
@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 yeah same here
Good afternoon, Jon. 4 inches of rain in one night is a lot. That's a nice old mower, cant beat good old reliability. 👍
Thought you were done for, dog almost got ya. Lol.
You see that vicious beast!
@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 Good thing he had breakfast or it woulda been you.

I need to get better at marketing our beef. Then we could make a living off of the cattle and the land and not so much commodity
Making marshmallows. Cows love them.
Such nice feed!
Get painting, Jon 😊

Yes the real is picking it up
Did you have a very mild winter? I wonder if the many times this winter that it got above freezing affected these plants
New discbine is almost $50k. Doubled in 10 years
Hard to make money with that debt...
