  • When working with a rifle there are many important issues to consider before you start shooting. What's a good rifle grip? Using the rifle cheek-weld... How should you setup your sling? Mags... etc. Former US Army Green Beret Zee Durham covers these essential rifle skills at the beginning of Day 2 at the S12 Event.
This is part 1 of our Rifle Training videos from the 2018 S12 Nashville Event.

This is some great knowledge! Shooting and learning safety and marksmanship is very important, but let's also advice people to stay in shape. Running with the riffle and weight on a person kneeling and then getting up to run for cover . Surprisingly you end up getting tired..

Totally like your vids, learning BRM, funny though, cause in the military , the DI was much harder and we did maximum push ups and used weighted dummy rifles to build muscle for all those maneuvers. Great vid, enjoyed it very much.

Good fundamentals. However, unless you are active military or an LEO, the skills one needs to master are simply up drills from the low ready and high ready position - single and double taps, multiple target acquisition, box drill to chest and head; speed reloads and bolt lock mag reloads. Get a pro timer and time yourself. Emphasis on accuracy first and then time which in essence is measuring your speed in weapon manipulation. Making safety manipulation habitual and your sling set up are essential. For example, using a pro timer at 7 yards from the low ready, target turns shoot 1 to the chest, do a bolt lock mag reload, shoot another round to the chest - all at .89 seconds. That is fast but being a Marine my rifle was my mistress and we hooked up quite frequently. :)

If you want to "press check" with a rifle/ar pistol, load the mag with 28 rounds. Last round will be on the right. Insert mag, lock bolt forward. Remove mag, last round is now on the left. Now you know one is in the chamber. EZ.
If you think 1 round will make a difference (lol), load with 29 rounds, top round will be on left, "press check" after removing mag = last round will be on right side now. Same shit.

If the goal is to have a basic understanding of how to manipulate weapons, I would say it is ok. On the other hand there are better trainers out there than police officers. The reason I say this is because of the GWOT and the trigger pullers who lived weapons handling far more than most cops.
