If I recall correctly, the promise of the elder brains to normal mindflayers is actually a lie, and when they die they just die, and the elder brain just absorbs their memories and power without granting them the immortality; at least in some lore.
That is most certainly correct… but the Mind Flayers or Alhoon don’t know that! As a DM you could of course rule it either way, but yes, as far as RAW lore is concerned, I do believe you are right.
@@DungeonBoy-TTRPGwhile mind flayers don't know I think there's at least a few cannon examples of alhoons being aware of the truth. That's what motivated (some) of them to strike out on their own. Obviously that's not true for all of them but it strikes me as pretty good motive for something as egotistical as a illithid.

@@DungeonBoy-TTRPGit would make sense for the discovering of that to be a catalyst for an Illinois becoming an alhoon
@@joearnold6881 lol an Illinois
Damn your channel is cool, its kind of like Dungeon Dad for monsters already in 5e, which is swag
Just as I looked at dropping one on my party! Excellent timing!
That’s awesome, enjoy the encounter!
I hope the video helps!
I'm about to drop an Alcohaloon on my party
An alcoholic Illithid sounds terrifying 😂
What’s it’s favourite drink… Squid-Gin maybe? 🦑
@@DungeonBoy-TTRPG also it psionically projects a drunken state on nearby characters
@@aa-yt7wo I love it, that's actually incredible 😂
How do you think that would impact a Way of the Drunken Master monk?
Spooky magic octopus < Spooky psychic octopus but thanks for the wicked video anyway!
The Alhoons would disagree 😂
No problem, glad you enjoyed it!
Got another Illithid adjacent feature coming soon 🐙
Could you an video on Hullathoin somwhere in future?
I reckon so, looks like an awesome monster!
