Nice i was there like a month ago
An Ex-Illinois Terminal RS1. I wish the Monticello Railway Museum and Danbury would negotiate a trade: Monticello's inoperable ex-Long Island RS3 for Danbury's ITC RS1. The RS3 could go into New Haven or Long Island paint, and we can once again see an Illinois Terminal RS1 whistling and smoking through downtown Monticello.
Or in GM&O paint even. I understand the regional reasoning, but sad the only 2 surviving IT/GM&O units are both masquerading as other units. I cannot speak though, as I haven’t raised any money towards such, just worked to have another ALCo masquerade as an ex-IT, GM&O one.
What causes it to smoke so bad?
turbo lag, its very common on any ALCo product locomotives like RS-1 and others due to their large single turbo design
The New Haven Rs1 has one of the best paint schemes form when it was built
