    Here is another suggestion for a NL destination that was DEFINITELY worth the effort to experience: ua-cam.com/video/PgOWGLlEC7o/v-deo.html

    That southern shore area suffers mostly from isolation from the rest of the island; you don't just happen to drop in there on your way someplace.
    I had a friend that had relatives there and would occasionally go to see them perhaps in the summers or on holidays and he'd return with stories of the fun he had or the girls he met who called him "fresh meat" (haha).
    I grew up mostly in Central, so as a youth I was very familiar with the area from Grand Falls to Gander and all points between, but the idea of heading straight down a highway with nothing but wilderness for so long... for me Harbour Breton may as well have been on the moon.
    But it does look lovely and I do wish I could visit the area sometime and finally see it for myself.

      Definitely daunting, and I understand why more people don't think of this area when they plan their Newfoundland getaways. It really didn't feel much longer (and actually wasn't much longer) than, for a couple of examples, driving up the Bonavista peninsula or driving from Gander to Twillingate. The isolation and wilderness for nearly 2 hours is a lot to mentally prepare for though, especially if you've never driven this highway before, but b'ys oh b'ys was it ever worth it!!

    Beautiful spot. Newfoundland is full of hidden gems . The only places left on my bucket list is St. Anthony and believe it or not a few communities around St. John's, including the southern shore area. My ultimate goal would be to see every nook and cranny of NL.

      My goal is to get up to St. Anthony at the end of this summer, and if I can make it happen even cross over the see the southern Labrador coast. Fingers crossed!

    If it looks that gorgeous and brings such positive vibes in winter, I can only imagine how beautiful it will be in summer! Like you, I was surprised at the size of the town, and those fabulous drone shots of the channels and hills are amazing! Thanks for this video, Mark; I look forward to seeing the next one!

      I can't wait to go back and see this place again! The fresh snow certainly added something special to the footage on this trip but I bet experiencing this town under the summer sun will be amazing too

I look forward to showing my wife some of these towns I grew up near.Have you done anything on Bay d'Espoir? Please keep these videos comjng,absolutely love them😊

      I passed through Milltown briefly on my way to St. Albans. I didn't get to spend too much time in either place but I did shoot a little bit of footage of the area. And I stopped at a cute little place called Bayside Cafe for some snacks, coffee, and a pair of hand-knit trigger mitts. The couple running the spot were super friendly (of course) and everything there was home made.

    In these last 3 videos you are previewing our sailing plans for this coming season Mark. Been to HB but a very long time ago and no memory to speak of. I love how you edit to give the “toy” like drone setting. Very clever!!

    Wow interesting! That is the only highway that I have not travelled on. Guess a summer trip this year. There is a restaurant in Anchor Inn, Twillingate, called Georgies , named after Georgina Stirling, the opera singer. Guess it is still opened,the food was awesome! Great video!

    When I use to stay in Hr Breton for work we use to stay in a little apartment just on the other side of the bridge. People use to say traditionally one side of the bridge was the Catholic side and the other side was the anglican side. Lol i havent been there in 10 years. I remember there was a Greco tucked away high up on a hill attached to someones house Lol good times

      Pretty sure I saw a Greco while I was there but it was on the main strip when you come into the town. Not sure though... there's so many Grecos around small towns in Newfoundland my brain might just be making up memories haha

    Hey bro, I noticed you never mentioned anything about Gun Hill in Hr Breton but that's another must see, Plus Dead Mans Cove, there are 5 Coves of beaches, there is a board walk that's runs right trough them all and walking trail to get to Gun Hill also. You also mentioned about the Hickey Family, thsts relatives of mine and there is also a book out about that if you are more interested in that story and like to find out more. It's called "Landslide" the Jack Hickey Story. But anyways Hr Breton is a must see in the summer, winter don't even come close to even what is actually like.

    Hey mark,
    Love your videos, my wife and I are visiting Newfoundland for the first time in June. We are coming from Northern Ontario and your videos have been very informative and have given us some great trio ideas. We are planning to visit the northern peninsula, are you planning to make videos in this area in the near future ?

      The Great Northern Peninsula is on my list for my next road trip but as of today it is uncharted territory for me! I have only been as far north as Western Brook Pond (where you'll find the famous fjords of Gros Morne - which is a must visit) but it seems like you'll see the other sights before I get the chance. I will definitely be bringing my cameras when I go but I think it will be around the end of summer before I can make it happen. Enjoy your trip!!

      @user-jy4kt5lh2t 3 місяці тому +1

      I'm from Twillingate and there are a lot of restaurants to choose from unfortunately most of them are only seasonal, this also includes R and J family restaurant. They were always open year round up until couple of years ago, kind of sucks for us locals. Only ones that are open year round now are the chinese restaurant, north 99 lounge (pub style food) and mary browns. Here's a list of restaurant and Cafe in the area.
      * Pier 39
      * R and J's
      * Georgie's
      * Annie's
      * Split Rock
      * The cozy tea room and bakery
      * Mary Browns
      * Golden Restaurant (Chinese)
      * Robin's
      * Blue Barrel Cafe
      * D and T seafood
      * Auk Island Restaurant
      * North 99
      * Captain's Pub
