Hewitt never had powerful groundstrokes like, let´s say, Safin, Nalbandian, Ferrero, Agassi, Federer, but had other attributes that made him the great player he was: he was fast as hell, had an amazing shot selection, he was smart on court and, his biggest asset, he was pure heart and always gave it all. World number one, US Open champion, Wimbledon champion, Master Cup champion (twice), Indian Wells champion. During his peak he was a force to be reckoned with, and a tough, tough challenge for anyone. The way he dealt and dismantled Sampras is a case of study.
Yes, we are talking about a legend of the game.

Hewitt is a modern-day gladiator, the ultimate warrior, a living legend. His never say die attitude on court and love for the game is what made me a fan. Injuries plagued his career but for him to come back from all those surgeries and learn how to walk again just so he could compete is amazing in itself. His five-set win over Federer in 03 at the Davis cup semi-final will always be my favorite match.

I started watching tennis and playing tennis when he was number 1, at Us Open '02. Today i'm playing for almost 20years, wherever or whatever i achieved or not, Lleyton will always be special. He incuted in me the willing to win and fight for every point. We know his tennis wouldn't be enough for Federer or Nadal but he was a champion in his way! Thanks for the vid TennisTV👍🙏

De Minaur is nowhere near the player Lleyton was. If they weren’t both Australians you probably wouldn’t be comparing them, although granted they are both counter punchers. Hewitt was one of the greats of his era. De Minaur hasn’t gone near the top 10. Lleyton’s backhand - doublehander and slice - is far superior.

Uh, no. Hewitt's backhand was rather ugly to be honest. And not nearly as effective at dictating play with that straight arm take back. When you compare it to some of the great backhands in the game (Agassi, Nalbandian, Safin, Murray, Djokovic, Nishikori, etc) Hewitt's doesn't even crack the top 10.

Hewitt played against some of the best players ever and when he was at his peak, he could beat them all. Early on he played against Sampras and not sure this is true, but I hesrd this story, Sampras retired after Hewitt demolished him in a big final and Sampras said something about Hewitt in a interview that he was just too dpfast and he couldn't keep and maybe it was time to retire.
But he played against so many good players back in his day and its a testament to him that he won some grandslams and he became number 1 and held it for a while too. My favourite Aussie Tennis player with Pat Rafter 2nd.
