"I never eat food until my soldiers have eaten first"
In case it's poisoned.
LOL
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
😂😂😂❤
Also British army tradition.
@@mitchsullo Hell, I do the same thing with my wife. Better safe than sorry. 🤣
Whittaker was absolutely terrifying in this film. What an actor.
And McAvoy was very hateable for the first 2/3rds of the film. Two great performances.
Who would not be terrified with his eyes
@@BlackSailPass_GuitarCovers really? Why so?
@@nevaehlittle4296 It was a while ago now, but he just came across as a self-absorbed know-it-all who considered himself pretty hot stuff. He was new to the country, but walked around with a pompous air, spoke down to people, and even cheated on someone's wife (resulting in her death).
He hit on every female character whether they wanted it or not, and (despite considering himself a pretty savvy bloke) his naivety led him to admire a dictator and be fooled by his charms. When the expat tried to warn him about this, naturally he knew better. In fact, one of the most satisfying moments of the film was when he needed this character's help and finally got taught a few home truths.
The moment I started to dislike him was his jarring, feminine scream at the very start of the film (because living in a quiet, loving UK home is _such_ a drag...), and it continued until he got humbled in the last few scenes.
Jus watched it today I was like oh he definitely played this role
I love the way they introduce him. Camera is behind him and he’s seen as a larger than life figure and he was concealed prior to this.
The camera work in general is spectacular in this movie. The way they magnify his intensity with a rapid zoom as he's chanting to the crowd. Normally they would do this with music in the background.
Always stand behind a camera man if there's a war. They are invincible in a war.
Good camera work, his intro was well executed.
One of the baddest intros ever🙌🏾
Now i understand why forest whitaker won the oscar
And rightfully so
He's right there with Bruno Ganz.
Watch the movie bruhh... watch the movie
Best acting I have seen big time
Will smith was better
Forrest Whitaker, the most under-utilized, un-sung actor of this age. This man can BRING IT! For crying out loud, Hollywood, give the man a chance!
GrayNeko jealous
He won the Best Actor Oscar for this.
How about a movie with Whitaker, lawrence fishborne, earl ray jones, mogan freeman... and grace jones.
grey neko faints.
He gets a lot of chances. Usually over-acting. He is a very good actor in general and amazing in this movie, but he is not so consistent.
He’s part of the MCU now and he won an Oscar! I think he’s good
Whitaker killed this part!
“You see these wazungu are so selfish. They just wanted to make one of their own a star. Whitaker’s performance and role in The Last King of Scotland is nowhere close to what I did and still able to do,” says Joseph Olita.
And a lot of Ugandans.
Jay K. Yes he Did!
He brought the house down in this movie.
Truly deserved oscar! Whitaker did it perfect.
RishabhM410 So true
Whitaker got best actor
perfectly
what a great casting choice. I think no one could've acted the nightmarish Ugandan butcher known as Idi Amin better then Forest Whittaker. The Academy has did the right decision to give him the Oscar.
Olita already did
There’s an actor that looked exactly like him, talked exactly like him and acted ten times better.. AND HE WAS NOT A BUTCHER! He was a pan Africanist and you foreigners don’t like that.
@@RenahTruaent
A man who killed and tortured 300'000 of his own people and ran his nation into the ground is a butcher.
I watched Pursuit of Happyness in 2007 and when I came to know that Will Smith didn't win the Oscar for his role after getting nominated, I was wondering who could have outshone his performance. Then I watched Whittaker's performance in The Last King of Scotland and realised how supreme and mesmerizing his performance was.
This movie still scares my soul out of my body
Why
@@byram1 have you seen the movie?
@@erinpilla no
Like wise, this and Hotel Rwanda my word
My guess is that he turns out to be a blood-thirsty dictator?
This man is lying through his teeth and the people are just eating it up.
That's politics.
People believe what they want to believe what makes them feel good/safe is easier than the truth
Don't worry, professor xavier will fix this...
Yeah...sounds like someone else who was lieing through his teeth and the people just ate it up.
fishbone3333 what do you mean by that ?
#MUGA (Make Uganda Great Again)
CytotoxinK based
LOL :D
Ooga MUGA
First time I've seen this, and that is EXACTLY what I thought.
We Waz Kangz
The microphone looks old, porous, which simbolyze the poverty of Uganda. I love the details like this in movies.
There's just the right amount of tension in this scene, from the guns and the guards' thousand mile stare over the crowd, and from that vaguely threatening line "I know who you are and everything that you are", but there's not so much tension that it can't be covered up by Amin's charisma, and it is soon forgotten by the crowd and the viewer
This man is still phenomenal actor. Holy cow
Thank godness he won an Oscar for this incredible performance.
Whitaker is killing it with his African accent.
"African" accent?? Well I'll look forward to his European accent next then.
@@EASYTIGER10 He has an amazing earthly accent
It's actually a pretty accurate EAST AFRICAN accent. As a Ugandan/Kenyan, I think he did a pretty good job.
Indian
@@EASYTIGER10 GET THE POINT! I am not from African hence I don't know the exact country in Africa which is having this accent.
The insane thing is that Idi Amin died in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,
and Forest Whitaker played Saw Gerera in rogue one a star wars story, in which his character was in a city called Jedha (same pronunciation), and his character died in Jedha as well.
How did I not know this
i'm in jeddah right now ngga. coincidence? i think not
@@BOZ_11are you the reincarnation of Idi amin?
"This will be a government of action! Not of words!" Said every dictator ever
Well. They were goverments of action. Just terrible actions.
...he was going to make Uganda great agaiin
As u notice hollywood don't put black people in da best lught
Fun fact : That crowd didn't know why they were assmebled, and some thought that really was Idi Amin from what i understand.
@Hoàng Nguyên You know Forest was stopped at the airport and detained because of the faulty technology and the fact the soldiers and gaurds were STILL under orders to detain Idi Amin if he ever came back from exile, even though he died in 2003 i think. They detained him because the gaurd asked him if he was Idi Amin, and Forest thinking the man saw the movie said yes, and so they detained him.
@Hoàng Nguyên I think it has more to do with they want change and a better Uganda moreso than Idi back. You know?
That's bullshit because Idi was born in 1925 so hed look about 100. I'm sure the crowd knows of him and that hes been around for nearly 100 years but he looks 40 😂
Source? I find it extremely hard to believe a crowd of Ugandans would cheer for who someone who did what Amin did to their country. Also, wouldn't the film cameras and the multiple takes give it away?
Ed Lyness Also, as someone pointed out earlier, idi Amin would have been around 77-78 when this movie was filmed, however Forest Whitaker was clearly in his 40s so either Ugandans cannot differentiate a 40-something year old from a 70-something year old or that story most likely isn’t true. It’s an entertaining story but probably unlikely.
Huh, never knew that Idi Amin Dada had Forrest Whitaker Eye.
Forest Whitaker is one of the greatest actors i have ever seen. He truly deserves MUCH more credit, not just for this role.
This movie is so underrated.
Man Forrest killed this role
this is the best part, whittaker perfected idiot amin
+Ndung'u John are you swahili speaking? either way he did in my engish speaking world

@@MAC-by7ys lol do you worship him or something?
@@elizabethcatlion7015 Naw a lot of people are named Idi it’s disrespectful. I don’t worship no man ✌🏽
It’s crazy how much of a commanding presence he has just walking up to the microphone. Don’t even need to see his face.
0:33 One of the scariest moments in the film. That face and the yells he's making are predatory.
I cannot agree more. This game me chills.
Jumpscare?
Whitaker is amazing!
He deserved the Oscar for this! 👌👌👌👌The you did not persuade me Nicholas scene was the height! 😂😂😂😂😂😂However I always thought that the scene where he HUSTLES Paul Newman in the Colour of Money was my favourite scene Forest! 😂😂😂😂😂
They had a hard time casting Amin, because they needed a guy who was both terrifying and physically imposing. They couldn't hide the second aspect, because the real Amin was 6'4" and 250 lbs. of pure muscle and everyone he knew always brought up his sheer size as integral to his intimidation factor when they talked about him.
Whitaker is close to that size, but we usually don't notice it because he generally plays gentle characters. The filmmakers just couldn't see him playing someone so hideous until he went all Method on them and they were impressed. After three or four months of filming, Whitaker said he was glad to be done with Amin because playing someone that utterly depraved was exhausting.
*"But you did not persuade me Nicholas"*
One of the finest performances of the decade.
"TOGETHER WE CAN FIND>>>> DA WAE!"
His accent here was way better than in Black Panther lol
Few actors can portray a character especially hard when the part is based on a real person AKA Idi Amin, and have such a talent that all you see is Idi Amin Forest Whitaker is one of those great actors a real actor
Still come on You Tube 2024 for this Clip. BEST OF ALL TIME
Guy was a nutjob Forest played it perfectly
I think he made him more charismatic than he actually was.
He was charismatic. He was against british colonialism, so british media demonized him.
I don't know who this guy is, but based off this. He's clearly a great man. 👴
Oh gash such a mesmerising perfomance. The way he can convey this fascinating honesty in his eyes makes me shiver everytime I watch this scene. What he's done for Idi Amin in this movie is equal to what Bruno Ganz did for Hitler in 'Downfall'.
Forest should run for president. Seriously. USA had some bad actors like Regan for presidents before. Why not a boss actor like Whitaker?
Something i always found sad was how supportive Nicholas was of Idi at the beginning . Only to be constantly manipulated by him to the point where he refused to let Nicholas Leave and go home
He was a young impressionable man. The young can be swayed easily.
@@adamdavis9838 and for all the evil within them, dictators are generally masters of charm. It's dangerous to be in their presence because of what they can make you think. They're not going to kill you, they'll get someone else for that
@@adamdavis9838 that movie is not realistic the guy was with the stunning blonde 1:55 and went for idi wife later.. no way
From their own portrayal, Nicholas was a child in front of someone like Idi. Strong minded, and intelligent but also young and impressionable. But he didn't have malice of heart, he just thought Amin was the on the right side of history. Got manipulated by him all over and paid with everything.
I'm looking for Pasta Senpai in the crowd.
"This will be a government of actions, not words!"
It was a government of actions, but in the way you expect...
Forest Whitaker being more idi Amin than idi Amin
Forrest owned this role
So true! Best Movie Ever! He is the best here!!!
forest whitaker won the oscar for the best in the last king of scotland
actually his acting is very nice like will smith or denzel washington
the favorite part was "Uganda, we make this country better and stronger and its free, Uganda oh yeah!!!" that was so interesting part for us
Forrest Whittaker is phenomenal. No wonder he won Best Actor for this.
One of my favorite movies!
1:48, make Uganda great again.
@Joseph Nickell yeah I agree, European colonization was the best thing to ever happen to Africa.
The ability to act is a mixture of gift and skill (inherent and learned). Good actors have equal parts of both. I believe Forest Whitaker was born with 100% gift...and the scary thing is that he also works as hard as those who have very little gift. For me he is in the top echelon with the likes of Daniel Day Lewis and Dustin Hoffman
He showed his talent. No one could play his role better than he did.
so why is the title called The Last King of Scotland ? just a random name ?
He wanted to "liberate scotland from the british"
The real-life Idi Amin fancied himself after the Scots, particularly admiring their history of resistance against the British.
he liked the history of Scotland's struggle against the English and the numerous rebellions
Idi Amin used to claim that he was the last king of scotland
Notice the title King of Scotland 🏴
Hell even with hindsight this made me like Idi Amin if this is the energy he brought. Makes you see how these guys like hitler could sweep into power. Their presence i imagine was mystifying.
Professor X was a friend of Idi Amin? Jesus ...
His assistant to Zuri basically
He was the last black actor to win for Best Actor in a Leading Role as of now. He truly deserved it! I wish more African Americans would win this Oscar rather than just the supporting categories.
Totally agree!
Will Smith won this year for King Richard!!
This guy is an Alumni at the University I attended, California State Polytechnic University Pomona
someone explain why Saw Gerrera is having a speech in Africa
One of the best movies I've ever seen and with a fantastic work of Forest Whiteker
this movie is one of the best movies
Forest Steven Whitaker III (born July 15, 1961) is an American actor, producer, and director.
Whitaker has earned a reputation for intensive character study work for films such as Bird, The Crying Game, Platoon, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, The Great Debaters, The Butler and Arrival.
He also starred in blockbusters such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (as Saw Gerrera), and Black Panther (as Zuri).
For his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland, Whitaker won the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, National Board of Review Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and various critics groups awards for a lead acting performance.
oh my god....performance ....speech ....oh my god 🤩
Forest should have won an Oscar almost 20 years before this movie, when he portrayed Charlie Parker in "Bird".
This is the exact charisma that makes Forest Whitaker great

amazing, amazing performance. He really made this movie!
Forest Whitaker probably was the greatest actor for this part and I see why you got an Oscar the capture all of the dictators charm and danger James Mcavoy was evenly good what a dynamic duo in my opinion he should have won 5 Oscars
Whitaker is a genius.
Whitaker did an absolute amazing job with this role portraying as Idi Amin in this film.
Forest Whitaker is such an underrated actor..his portrayal of Idi Amin in this movie, Bumpy Johnson in godfather of harlem and last but not the least his character in the movie experiment alongside Adrien Brody are my favourite..

+MARV HOOKMONSTA fuck that dude, look at Forest Whittaker in real life. he actually morphed himself into an eastern African warlord that was believable enough for the mass audiences and critics alike............try that as an African American
I came away from watching this, with a bit of a different slant, maybe. In my opinion "Last King of Scotland" was a horror flick...in the truest sense of the word. There were many things about Amin that were not told in the movie...A LOT. But I think what needs to be known about him, more importantly, is the reality that he was yet another despot who was, Im almost certain, bi-polar. Everything about how he carried himself and how he treated other human beings, was manic and erratic. In the 8 yrs that he ruled over Uganda, he probably had near-half a million people killed. Im not making his mental illness an excuse for him. But we need to understand that NORMAL human beings aren't cooks in the British military ..and then in a few yrs, they're an officer in the British Army, killing other black people in the Shifta War. To say, Amin was unusual is laughable. He was a sick man..
This movie didn’t show the racism aspect of idi amen dada
Forrest Whittaker an Awesome actor!
What a nice young leader, I hope he doesn't become power-crazed and invade any small nations!
What a great actor, and if you haven't seen his brief performance in The Crying Game, you should. It's phenomenal.
