I took VIA Rail's "The Canadian" starting in Vancouver at Pacific Central station, and road for 3 days into Winnipeg's Union Station. I love it when you do these vlogs because the real UA-cam inside you comes out. Epic shots, time lapses, story telling, this part of your YTer game has come so far, it's exciting. Were those drone shots yours or did you use stock? I'd been afraid to fly my drone on the non stopping moving train in the mountains, lol. Great video, growing up my father was a CN employee so he had a pass to take us on Via Rail. Rode the train often between Winnipeg and Vancouver to visit family on the coast. I think for non-Covid times Via has “Express Deals” on its website, selling tickets at a big discount.

This may sound dumb. And I’m sure the answer is either stock footage or old footage previously shot. But how do you get those drone shots out in the middle of nowhere with the train going by?
Legit I've been working on this project for weeks, months man. Been stock piling footage through Manitoba of the train to disgust it as the rest of western canada. When I was in Vancouver. I had Sweeney helping me 24/7 stocking up on footage from around the area. It was a grind and a half project.
Awesome channel, man, and great video that really captures the joy of train travel. I have zero desire to step on a plane right now -- even though WestJet is holding $4000 of my COVID-cancelled travel money hostage -- but would dearly love to curl up on a train seat. Sadly, VIA has suspended the Montreal-Halifax Ocean for over a year, with no hint of if/when it will return, so I'll be waiting a bit longer. Good luck prepping on the ice and enjoy your travels!

Some really nice travel vlogging, Trav. Reminds me of the days I used to take the Maritimer from Montreal to Moncton, but taking the train to the left coast is definitely on my to-do list. Just have to wait until I can escape Quebec--the three land-based borders are all closed tighter than a frog's ass in water. I guess Quebec got its wish: we're a nation unto ourselves at the moment.

Back in the day, there were three daily Montreal-Moncton-Halifax trains, the Ocean (The premier train) the Scotian (The running mate of the Ocean, slightly slower but just as classy), and the Maritime Express (The economy train that carried mail and express). There was also the CP route that went from Montreal to St. John, New Brunswick by way of Brownville Junction and Jackman, Maine; it was called the Atlantic Limited. The Maritime Express died in the early 1960s with the start of the Red, White, and Blue program of CN, The Scotian lasted until 1979, when a financially-strained VIA Rail cut it. The Atlantic was extended from St. John to Halifax in 1978, only to be discontinued in 1981, only to be brought back to life in 1985. At the same time, the Ocean was cut to a Montreal-Moncton train, and a daylight connector continued on to Halifax. In 1990, the Ocean and the Atlantic were reduced to tri-weekly by the foolish Mulroney government cuts, however the Ocean was reextended to Halifax. In December, 1994, the Atlantic died for good, and the Ocean was brought up to six-times-weekly service. Lastly in this sad saga, it was once again reduced to tri-weekly in 2012, the result of the Harper cuts. It was proposed that it run tri-weekly in the winter, but six-times-weekly in the summer, the jerk president of VIA refused. When the Ocean is returned in August, it will be a once-weekly train with the worst equipment that VIA has, and non-existent prospects for the future, given the bad track it rolls on and the fact that it runs with equipment that is literally falling apart. This is the sad relic of the once-great rail passenger services of the Canadian Maritimes. Of course, there was also the Cabot, a Montreal-Edmunston-Moncton-Sydney, Nova Scotia train, and an abundance of local trains, like the Evangeline (Yarmouth-Halifax) and the unnamed trains to Fredricton, NB. Those are little-known trains that all died a long time ago, so I won't go into much detail about those.

Hey I've heard from my buddy Michael Downie that the Amtrak in the states is incredible. Depends if you ride in the summer. @@trav4oilers I have lived in AZ for over two decades I am in Fountain Hills near Scottsdale, trust me when I say I need to experience rain, snow and having to wear cold weather gear!!! Our Winters have been way milder than usual in fact they have become tolerant Summers we have had no monsoon or rain to speak of in 2 years basically and I am so ready to be in the cold to see trees lots of trees and watch the Canadian terrain go by LOL
I did more research after and apparently I undershot it. Usually $700 each way for economy and $7000 for prestige class EACH way. not a roundtrip. I pay $184 with taxes haha

See if you book 2 months in advance right now thats great, but theyre cheap because you have no idea if the world is shut down or open then. I could get a ticket for the Canadian departing vancouver for tomorrow and its still dirt cheap

It would put it up there (the breakfast) as a pretty high quality restaurant meal. Maybe not the dinner but the airplane meals are garbage
