Damn he SLAMS the post on the beach boys
Anyone that has ever sat behind a board for 4 hours knows a show like this is a lot of work. Job well done!
Amen brother. Especially on a graveyard shift!
I did six hours a night and ate on Sunday. And I didn’t have near as nice of equipment that they had in this video. But it was the greatest love of my life.
He was the best, grew up in the early 70’s in San Diego listening to Tom
Being a radio dj in the olden times must've been great!
What a fucking legend, an absolute master at this game. Look at him go.
As a small boy in growing up in the 90s in so cal I loved k earth. These were the songs I grew up on, and hearing Shotgun Tom Kelly and the radio jingles brings back such vivid memories of my childhood and the town I grew up in. Here I am now in my 30s living far away from so cal. Had on some oldies tonight and thought of k earth so i went to UA-cam to see what I could find. This is the first time I've ever seen what he looked like.
having this experience right now, but still in socal. k earth is still k earth but does 80s and 90s. it sucks lol
Same way bro. Memories of chilling at Redondo Beach circa 1994
He is now on. SiriusXM satellite radio 60s on 6 late afternoon/early eve shift, he is great! And no commercials, and a wider variety of oldies!
does he still do the thing with his finger? lol
@@the.rico.network So very true!
@@manley1979no he does not. His whole persona is tamped down in Sirius XM. The PD wants more conversational, softer, slower jock delivery.
Great guy! Shotgun took 20 minutes to talk to me and my girlfriend at a radio convention in San Diego, even when people were trying to pull him away to talk.
My mom would always put this radio station when I was younger... I remember when she would record songs on a tape. I miss this kearth 🙁
My parents used to take us on vacation every year to LA and this was our favorite station when we were over there.
Those were very very good times indeed, this station brings back great memories
Oh boy, does this bring back memories ! Remember, NO MTV, NO COMPUTERS ! THIS was excitement for us and this was the station !
Makes me miss listening to this back in the day.
the southern california legend SAN DIEGO's K best 95 and LA's Kearth 101
I miss the Gold standard. K Earth has never been the same since.
Hitting the post all day!
This is Real Radio!
oh man this brought so many memories.
My dad has been listening to "K-Earth 101" since the mid-90s. Nothing but great oldies music of the 60s, 70s and some 80s. Shotgun Tom Kelly, what a man. always great to hear his voice on the radio. after months of no radio (since I use my phone Bluetooth to play my music) I curiously tunes to this station only to hear new voices, and while I have nothing against 90s and 00s music, that's what I've heard on the radio station. I really miss the music they played. I miss all the motown stuff, all the Beatles and rolling stones songs that was played. I hope I can find another station like this again. So much nostalgia.
Try 1260AM It's oldies from late 50's to early 70's.
*nostalgia
@@starwarsunfiltered7848 Thank you
There is a internet radio station called oldies 103 Boston which plays all the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s songs KRTH used to play.
Great radio personality this reminds me of the old wcbs 101.1 miss radio like this
CBS FM and KEARTH were sister stations.
Miss my OG K EARTH 1996- 2009 I was 16-29. Miss the 50s 60s and some 70s
Great music and a REALLY great jock👍
Shotgun tom kelly is a legend in SD and LA
why ?..was he the guy that was 4 years old and did shot with shotgun 2 girls dead ?
I used to record these songs on an old cassette player, generation X lives!
I miss DJs like them.
Awesome seeing the behind the scenes action with a top DJ at the mixing controls booth or a top radio station.
Those were the days!
Why can't we bring back these songs on radio stations around the country. Now it's Classic Hits, 80s, 90, and early 2000s. Kelly is a good, hot Disc Jockey! Love him!
My favorite 1980s female singer is the late Laura Branigan and my favorite 1980s song is “Gloria” by Laura Branigan.
Back when they were a good station to listen to. Their best years were in the 1980's, when they had big specials and lots of music! Today, they feature only daily repetition of mainly 80's music.
KRTH used to do themed weekends after those specialty weekends were dropped. It was mostly the same ole same ole, but I did near a few nuggets. Keep in mind this is when the playlist was no more than 400 songs.
Yeah, the Memorial Day 500 and the same songs were played every year. Or the Parade of Hits weekends, featuring the "greatest" hits on earth. In other words, their everyday music, featured on a weekend!
Remember this? buffpost.com/music/krth/
I was born in December 1993, so I came too late to see that monster large playlist of the 80's. Did it cover 1955 to about 1986?
Have you listened to Ksurf 1260 Am in LA?
oldiesmusic76
Cmon oldies you know 1955-1970s music attracts old guys like me. And advertisers don't care about us geezers. It's the kiddies that buy stuff. I'm set in my ways. FORDS! not Chevys.
PEPSI! not Coke. If I ran a radio station I'd load it up with every Chuck Berry, Beatle & Kinks record I could find. I'd get good ratings, too. Just not enough of the listeners radio advertisers want I'd lose my ass! KRTH was #3 playing the 50s/60s. And coundn't make enough money to compete with stations playing newer songs. I don't like it. But it is what it is.
Ah! I so miss K-Earth 101. It is just not the same.
You mean oldies radio.
It has never been the same since then
Killer job there shotgun..nice work, remember you well in the 80’s in San Diego
Last great DJ on that station. KRTH has all but abandoned their roots to the old KHJ 93. They are nothing like before.
I love this guy - he is GREAT!
Love this.. "Shotgun Tom" did a radio promo for me a little while back.. (doesn't mention his name, just the call letters).. Seems to be an awesome guy..
Curious. WHO does the spot or spots for Shotgun?
The "entertainment capital" at the beginning and the K-EARTH 101 promo id around the 1:16 part??
Thanx!! Randy A Carlisle Real Oldies DJ
The voiceover is Charlie Van Dyke
KRTH isn't KRTH anymore, what is? Shotgun is a treasure.
An "amish" in a broadcasting company... What an evolution!!!
Wow he reminds me of growing up KUSI Kids club in San Diego in the 80s
Song list:
Chuck Berry - Nadine
The Monkees - I'm a Believer
Marvin Gaye - I've Heard It Through The Grapevine
Gene Chandler - Duke of Earl
The Beach Boys - Fun, Fun, Fun
Elvis Presley - Return to Sender
The Delfonics - La-La Means I Love You
wish shotgun Tom Kelly was here in the.bay area the best DJ. I heard
Mike Ford
He spent one week on KFRC in 1982? or 1983? He was filling in for a old radio buddy who had to take emergency leave.
Damm it's been years with out hearing that radio comercial krth 101
So good!
Awesome work wow!shotgun is great!
When computer radio and the old jingles machine are working together ...the beginning of the end. .of the real radio..the dj makes the different and thats why it sounds still classic
Shotgun the best
Living legend !! 🎙🎶💯
Still using those old cart machines in 1998?
Who's the DJ in the studio next to him? Is it someone from a sister station or was it another K-Earth DJ doing voicetracking?
The oldest music i hear them play now is The Cars.. smh
KRTH should rehire Shotgun Tom Kelley! That was wrong! He was an awesome jock! He's on Facebook if anyone is interested.
Thank you for the greatest moments N djn, Shotgun! August 2015 was your final month!
He is in his late 69 years old 2019
Tom Kelly was in his 40 s that time
He retired
He's on Sirius, go to "60's on 6"
Yes, K-Earth is a shell of what it once was. Repeating the same overplayed 3 songs from the 80s EVERY SINGLE HOUR !!!
They abandoned their loyal listeners when the advertising agencies -- run by 20-somethings who know little about the great music of the past -- blackmailed them into only playing what appeals to today's listeners. Big loss for terrestrial radio. Wonder why so many listen to Sirius-XM's 50s-60s-70s and 80s channels, which run circles around commercial FM.
EXACTLY!!!
Sirius XM 60's is a rest home for bad mostly East Coast jocks.
A very nice guy!!!
Excelente video los felicito , un abrazo desde Oldie's Radio Costa Rica @t
@t
This reminds me of The Real Don Steele
You’re not too far off. K-Earth is or was a spin-off of 93KHJ. From the jingles to the format that is until they changed to more newer music
Number one
Radio very very good.
What's with the Smokey bear hat?
he used to do PM drive on K Earth now I think he's covering the late Charlie Tuna's weekend shift
vanboy0 He was laid off a couple weeks ago.
they laid off Shotgun Tom Kelly? Do I smell a format change coming?
Radio stations now days ain’t shit
I felt safer listening then
What’s with the weird noise using the fingers on the lips???
ciao marco poggioli
What song began @1:00min? Please
Heard it Through the Grapevine
Exelent radio clasic..
0:32
Theres a vid of the Johnny Mann Singers doing a recording session of these style jingles but from around 2007. ua-cam.com/video/mObI_EvSZTs/v-deo.html
Smokey the Bear hat
He only takes off his hat for one thing...
One trick pony, Wolfman Jack doing an impression of the real Don Steele.
What's with the hat......on the radio????
MrLadeside It's his trademark and to probably coverup a bald spot :)
your'e absolutely right on both points
I mean...is all that really necessary, ya know half standing and dramatic action just to talk, and that motor boat action
Yes.
Yes! That's how it's done-to get it done! Shotgun is the best.
He somewhat sounds like Quagmire from Family Guy.
