I've since watched the deleted scenes & they really change the movie. I now understand how they knew the alien was using the air ducts. Also, the cocoon scene explained a lot.
I was like 7 or 8 when I saw this. My dad didn't believe in coddling or treating kids like kids, so we were exposed to movies like this, the thing, the exorcist (THAT one messed me up, still won't watch to this day) Jaws. You can't stress enough how important Ripley's character was to girls. It's in the 70s there was no real female role models for girls on TV or movies, she was the first real action star that was able to still be a girl. In most if they're an action star a female has to act like a man or be a b****. So Ripley's character was so important for a lot of girls back in that day and still is
In later versions of the script and the novelization, it is explained that the newborn Alien gets into the food storage. This is how it grows so quickly. But the film never shows us. Much of what the Alien does makes sense when you understand the Alien physiology and lifecycle. (Aliens is a must, and much more action oriented. ) ... I would help by explaining further, but I don't want to spoil Aliens. I'll reply to that reaction when you get to it. 😉
Jaws is my favorite movie of all time 👍🏾 The nightmares it gave me turned me off to many other horror/suspense movies, lol. I've watched several documentaries & have learned of Ripley's importance.
