- Myself and Searoar broke fishing in Sea of Thieves without even leaving port merrick. The range of fish we were able to catch might actually surprise you!

This was a pretty interesting challenge to do in sea of thieves, shoutout to @JonBardcore who inspired this one with his own video :) It is pretty interesting just how much gold you can get if you play your cards right at port merrick ;D

I actually found a very easy pondie spot. in the sewer under the tavern. turn left in the sewer under the tavern. there is a nice intersection there. just pick a corner there and you have plenty of room to not touch the walls. can also team up with your crew to accelerate the pace.
I tried the spot a few days ago, it still works! that is actually a pretty nice spot, and it keeps you out of sight of most players too! thanks!

Yeah that thing is pretty hard to come by, honestly insanely lucky to get it like this.
Plus this being in the PL hideout means you don't have to suffer from being hit by lightning while fishing it :)

Anyone who wants to increase their gold can use a ship w a rowboat and put a guild emmisary up followed by parking your ship far away near the edge of the map (not far from port merrick) and rowing back for nearly duoble the gold

Where are you casting your line in the lair to avoid getting snagged? Hard to tell from the cuts in the video
If you go up to the platform that Merrick is on, there should be some rocks near the water off to the left, i've not checked if theres a way to reach it without Guardian of Fortune at 100 though

does the pirate legend cave still work for storm fish and battlegill? im trying it now and cant seem to get storm fish
The storm needs to above the centre of the map eg reapers for it to work

in the tavern you can also just fish while sitting in the water since there's no threats to kill you, super awesome strategy that will be helping me and my crew a ton with wrapping up our fishing commendations, thank you 💪😎
Thank you for watching! I will just say that theres a chance the pondie spot might not work anymore, but ive heard theres another spot in port merrick for them somewhere too? You can also use the newest seasons features as another commentor has said to spawn a fleet yourself then go to port merrick :)

Honestly, I did barely any fishing for my HC, I just gave the mermaid gems to them all the time which was really useful back when the best way to grind athenas was Thieves Haven runs haha

Interesting video. I was probably one of the first people to discover the pondie spot at port merrick while trying to catch storm fish in that exact location after the update dropped making port merrick start building up to where it is now. I have a video recording somewhere too lol. If you head down the stairs or swim to the entrance under the tavern in the “rowboat area” or under the bridge where the Dark Deception adventure ended (vault area) you can catch pondies there too. There are multiple places in the legend hideout to catch battlegill, some where you don’t need to reach level 100 by just fishing by the rocks next to the dock and ship right by aligning your pole using trial and error to get the best possible alignment, and if the storm passes the Arena Tavern, do the same thing for a chance to catch shadow and nighttime storm fish. Best of luck to the many trying to get Legendary Hunter of the Sea of Thieves! 🎣
In addition to this, if you or your crewmate has access to level 100 and can open the hideout lair door, you can also sell your fish to merrick directly if you lose captaincy. If you are also looking to fish for pondies in peace, vote up the monkey island tall tale for melee island, and when your ship comes out of the cutscene that brings you to melee island in the sea of the damned, go and anchor your ship as soon as you can and fish from the ship (only tested in the back). My friend and I instantly caught two bright pondies at the same time, but that’s because I’m only lucky at fishing in this game. In the future this may be patched, so use this method as you can! Just remember that any treacherous plunder that you may fish up will not come through the portal with you, and make sure all fish are stored in the barrels so they can be sold later on! 🐟
If you want extra gold sell to a seapost and not to the sovereigns. You get more gold and rep!
Did not know you can get pondies in melee island, thats a super safe way of getting them wow
Yeah you get more from seaposts, we just wanted to never use the boat for this one though which is why we sovreigned it :D
To fish in the hideout do you need the secret part of it unlocked?
8 min video that could have just been 1 at most; pondies have been removed, battlegill fishing in legend hideout during fleet, and stormfish during a storm.
My videos are more narration focused which is why its longer, these are not meant to be tutorials rather they are more "hey look at what me and some friends did".
Though yes the pondies just got patched with one of the recent updates
Continuously press S while fishing. Doesn't matter of it goes left or right, by the time he is pulling forwards, you will be pressing S already
yeah I realised you can use the wasd keys for fishing a few weeks after this haha

I pull it diagonally and can basically reel in constantly the entire time staggered.... Going to try out his way of fishing ... although his idea to get a CRATE doesn't ... really work if you go to the Pirate Legend Hideout because you DROP the crate when you go in there...
I did this while in an alliance and it was amazing, I was getting HC rep for everyone and they were getting me money 😂
Does turning it into sovereigns give you Hunter rep?
Yes! It doesnt show in the video because im already at 50. You will get a bit more rep and gold at seaposts though

IIRC, you can sell fish to Merrick in the hideout for the boosted value as if you were at a seapost
Unless theyve patched it, at the time we did this video it was going for the same price as sov's
I literally can't fish in the hideout because I'm not level 100 yet. Seems the best spot is through that door :( otherwise I hit the ship or the buoy
i'm not sure if there are any other spots that can be used if you dont have level 100, if I do find one though i'll be sure to give an update :D
At the end of the dock, by the shipwright, if you line up just right, you can get fish without them hitting that bouy or shipwreck too much. There are a few other very specific spots. Just gotta go through some trial and error. You just have to be prepared to lose some here and there. Or go grind to 100.
You blew my mind with the Battlegills in the PL Hideout. Now I might actually get round to finishing those commendations because screw fishing at forts.
Where are you selling them?
to the sovreigns, some time back they allowed sovreigns to take fish. though they increased the overall reward you get if you sell them to the seaposts instead

Don't you get more gold by selling them at Merrick on the secret secret pirate legend hideout?
We thought so at first while doing this, and we actually initially did sell them to merrick, but then we tested it with the sovreigns only to find he is the same price as them.

@@graycatsaderow wait for real? i'll need to double check it. You should still be able to fish from the main dock down there but, youve gotta get the position for it just right so you don't lose the fish.

Get a storage crate from an island and grab your bait, then maybe a rowboat if you want one. Then scuttle. They can't kill what they don't see. Hide the crate where they can't find it even if they do find you without your boat. When you have enough throw it on a rowie and paddle to a sea post.
Or, you could do safe seas.

Yeah unfortunately some months after this video was uploaded the spot got patched!
But, it turns out theres a second spot you can still get them, if you go under the tavern (to the waterway, not the hideout), the left side should have water that is just shallow enough to stand in so that you can fish, there are pondies there :D
To get in the athena hideout spot, it require athena at lvl 100, i just 19 so i'm pissed
IIRC there is a spot you can fish in without needing to go up to the HG area but, its a bit more tricky to get without the fish bumping into something
Can't you also just sell your fish directly to Merrick at the hideout?
We tried that at the time but it went for the same price as sovreigns, seems merrick doesnt have the same pricing as seaposts

can anyone get in that hideout?
the hideout requires pirate legend to get into. The area I was in also requires level 100 in guardians of fortune. You can still fish in the non-hourglass area but getting the right spot for it without the fish bumping into anything is a bit more tricky. You yourself dont need to be PL or Guardians 100 to enter if you have a crewmate who is.
All I get at Athena's are Splashtails 😂
The storm has to actually be over the spot where it is on the map, this should still work, though i'll need to double check since its been like 4 months since this video

Shame this doesnt help me. I've made it a goal to have Hunter's Call be one of my three i get to 50 to get Pirate Legend.
Then you might be interested to know that because the battlegil spawn around the skeleton fleets, if you get your ship to sea dogs tavern by going around the outside of the fleet, if done correctly you are close enough to to the fleet to be able to catch battlegill without spawning the fleet!
or if you don't mind potentially fighting other players for battlegill you can just start up a Fort of the Damned/skeleton fort raid and fish around it, good luck getting that hunters call 50!
Can confirm for everybody ... this guy probably got it nerfed because only Battle Sky Fish spawn when there's a ship event overhead now ... PLUS it's almost impossible to catch them unless you have access to the OTHER side of the galleon ... "Secret Technique" ... more like if you have sunk as many HOURS into the game as YOU have ... and spent 1/100th of that time fishing calmly ... you'd get lvl 50 no problem...

didn't include it in the video (which I probably should have in retrospect), but we actually were selling to him at first, then we found he was having them for the same price as the sovs were unfortunately
