I was at scout camp with my sons many years ago. About midnight one night, a mountain lion attacked a horse in the corral about 100 feet from from where we were sleeping in a tent. I had never heard a horse scream but it was the most blood curdling thing I’ve ever heard. The horse survived with several very deep gashes on her shoulder. The cat’s paw prints were big. If a mountain lion is not afraid of a 1200 pound horse, it will think nothing of attacking a child. The camp brought in a game tracker and kept everyone in a group for the rest of the week.

Yeah in Texas we call that a dead cat. Cougars here don't usually come around that close to homes and if it does there's a chance that it could be stalking your pets, your child, you, either way it's got to go once it's made it's mark on your property. My family had an exotics business while I was growing up. We had many, many different types of exotics including all kinds of big cats. We NEVER let anyone any where around our cat areas with children, same thing with small animals like dogs and cats. The big cats were safely contained but they always got riled up when kids, dogs and cats came around. They do stalk them, they do see them as food and they do remember where they are located. This cougar came back for business. I hope this family takes precautions and stays safe.🙏

We were licensed by the state and provided educational programs as well as rescue/rehab services in addition to giving homes to exotics that Zoos, Circuses and individuals needed to find homes for.

It’s a wild animal acting normally. You people really get on my nerves with this crap. We are steadily encroaching on THEIR territory and this is what happens as a result. If you want to live in places where mountain lions roam, you maybe shouldn’t let your cats go outside alone, and take other precautions as well. This is a choice to be there, nobody is being forced.

I was at scout camp with my sons many years ago. About midnight one night, a mountain lion attacked a horse in the corral about 100 feet from from where we were sleeping in a tent. I had never heard a horse scream but it was the most blood curdling thing I’ve ever heard. The horse survived with several very deep gashes on her shoulder. The cat’s paw prints were big. If a mountain lion is not afraid of a 1200 pound horse, it will think nothing of attacking a child.
The camp brought in a game tracker and kept everyone in a group for the rest of the week.
There’s been periodic attacks on horses near where I live (by cougars). They definitely will go after them.

Cougars here don't usually come around that close to homes and if it does there's a chance that it could be stalking your pets, your child, you, either way it's got to go once it's made it's mark on your property. My family had an exotics business while I was growing up. We had many, many different types of exotics including all kinds of big cats. We NEVER let anyone any where around our cat areas with children, same thing with small animals like dogs and cats. The big cats were safely contained but they always got riled up when kids, dogs and cats came around. They do stalk them, they do see them as food and they do remember where they are located. This cougar came back for business. I hope this family takes precautions and stays safe.🙏
