I am female (late 40s) I do work as on ethics (among other topics) and work hard on promoting women and minorities and love this song. It’s one of the least offensive things and can be seen as a tongue in cheek laughing at themselves for being girl focused and hormonal. The video and whole vibe is one of my favorites and I’m so dang pushed they stopped performing it because of the controversy because this is beyond a bop. But despite that they set a higher bar foe themselves and again they get knocked down and get up stronger. Still stream WOH for clear skin folks! Justice for WOH. V is so damn funny the whole video, he’s such a damn good ball which also sets a tone for not taking it serious but it being tongue in cheek funny song. Also them being all tough in their bicycles. 😂😂😂

The moment they say "I'm 18 I know all about it" (or even different translations/interpretations of what is what he knows) you need to realize the "narrator" is unreliable. I believe they do have some other early content which is a bit more questionable but WOH shouldn't be a target

Oh come on. How do the girls look at the guys at their school. The jocks and the good looking guy? They are feeling the hormones too. They want to date them. They want them as their boyfriend. Do they seek out nerdy boys or the chubby kid. No! Its human nature to be attracted to beauty. How many conversations took place in the girls bathroom or at lunch about what happened on their date with the school's jock? True they mentioned "unspeakable parts" but girls never talked about the six-pack abs and the men's unspeakable parts? It's a song about boy's bodies changing and noticing girls. In Junior high and high school, they are not going to be singing songs about wanting to get married and being with the girl forever. They are going to sing about the girl they noticed. Wanting to ask her for a date or wanting her to be his girlfriend.
I think it was just like all the rest of the stuff going on at the time. BTS was gaining momentum and the anti-fans were just trying to dig up dirt. And how did BTS handle it, they publicly apologized, RM consulted with a professor of women's studies about his music to become a more understanding artist. He started reading psychology book and BTS ended up creating a masterpiece that is "Map of the Soul 7".

Compared to a number of songs on the US radio that are sprinkled with 4-letter words, and may well describe getting it on, I agree with you that this song is fun, catchy, and no problem. Heavens, the Valentino fashion show Suga attended today (1-25-23) in Paris had women’s bare chests on view! I was a bit shocked, I have to say.😂 One thing I thought the first time watching the WoH music video was: There’s no ‘war’ with their hormones in the song, instead it seemed to me a kind of glorifying of youthful hormones!😊

Hello, teen boys are going to fight a War of Hormones and have "lust" before love!!! At the time, this is what i think the issue was, but really - what teen boy is going to have the depth of true love!!!! Besides, the lyrics show how much the boys admire women! The controversy behind this song is so unwarranted!!! It's cute, yet edgy!!!! I loved RM's platinum hair - he was the cutest!!!!!

I'm a strong, independent woman with one of my platforms on social media about women loving themselves and demandng and deserving respect for themselves. This song is in no way, not even near to being offensive. In fact, it is so cute and just them being upfront about how young boys can get their heads turned by beautiful girls. If at all, they are saying that they love women. Some people just have too much time that they can waste time being haters.

From my female perspective, who became highly sensitized to misogyny in the 1960’s, there is NOTHING misogynistic in this song! Rather it is an honest anthem to every young males confusion and sexual response to females in that time of their lives. What is lacking is a female response to their own sexual awakening. Which is only fair, since they are all male!

  • @leerowley70
    @leerowley70 Рік тому

Looking at this from today’s point of view it’s just a cute catchy song about boys and girls and that “magic” between them. There was a time not long ago that awareness of the “pressure” put on young girls to “perform/put out” and I think that’s where that attitude comes from. This is NOT that song. It’s just the reality that different times will have different lenses that things are looked at. This is a cute song about awareness of the opposite sex and those first stirrings. I’m old but I still remember those crushes and how tantalizing and fun they were (are). V is just V… and I’m here for it!

Jimin bias, Suga wrecker and OT7. BTS and staff are very good in making catchy songs. Sadly they don't perform this one no more. It got too much controversy when it came out. It's very catchy agree. =0} The MV makes me blush bad so I try to avoid watching it. =0p And who else but RM BTS goes and hires feminist's professors to check song lyrics. I mean come on!!! Respect! War of Hormone has some mild lyrics regarding teenage boys reactions/feelings towards girls and that set off a storm with the haters. I understand why some people don't like the song, but as a female I never found it particularly offensive. I always classified it as "silly teenage boy stuff" that was kind of cute. Like that time where they're hormone-driven and don't know how the world really works yet. I don't think it'd be appropriate for them to sing the song now as men in their late 20's/early 30's, but I like going back and revisiting this time. Personally I always found Boy In Luv (at least the MV) to be much more cringe with the manhandling of the actress, but even that song is mostly just emotionally immature teenager stuff and reflects a time in their lives. I'm inclined to think much of the drama was stirred up by anti's or other fanbases.

A lot of the so-called controversy was churned up by BTS haters/antis. Fake pearl clutching when other kpop male groups were making music in the same vein. Being an old woman who has lived with real sexual harassment & lots of misogyny, to me this is simply a song about teen age boys being honest about what’s going on in their heads. Yoongi’s rap lines are sweet. Hobi’s verses are suggestively cute as hell.

One of my favorite songs by them and I am devastated that the boys got so much hate for this. They loved this song in the beginning, you can tell because there are actually three dance practices, (you missed the "Real War" version which is hysterical) which I don't think they have for any other song. They had so much fun with it before it was ruined for them. I don't think we will ever see them perform this song again just because there was so much controversy and I think it left a scar on them mentally. 😢
They recorded the MV and outside dance practice at Yangpyeong English Village, its an education theme park to help people immerse themselves into an English speaking culture. The architecture is based on Virginia USA I believe. The really popular K-drama "Boys Over Flowers" was partially filmed at this location too.
The War of Hormone Halloween dance practice is credited as the first Halloween dance practice and starting the trend of doing so in K-pop. 💜

For me it was them saying that they are noticing girls more, but were too shy to go up to them and talk. The line 'I'm gonna give it to you girl right now' was actually a call/response line to ' Hello Hello , tell me what you want right now'... that could mean literally anything... flowers, chocolates, attention...whatever the girl wanted they could have as long as they were theirs... they were hormonal teenagers.. completely normal.

This is a great song on boys growing up while laughing at themselves. I’m 60+ woman and a hardcore feminist, so I say it: there isn’t an iota of misogynism in this song. What I believe is that at the time, and continues less aggressively today, there was an abundance of orchestrated campaigns to stop BTS from success in the K music industry: to compete with the big three was indeed a great challenge. Kudos to them, their company, and armys of the time; without their perseverance we would have had the unthinkable today: no BTS

I am a female, who does enjoy this song and DO NOT find it offensive. I believe this was offensive mostly in Korea and drama stirred up by other fandoms, at the time. There are plenty of other artists with really offensive material played on the radio and blaring from vehicles on the street, which people allow/enjoy?! So sad that BTS and mostly RM had to deal with this mess. 💜💪🎼

People were claiming back then that BTS were objectifying women in this song but the title itself speaks about battling with raging hormones which is a very natural thing. Young boys go through that stage when they get attracted to girls physically and most of the times sexually. It's something so natural which they need to take control of and that's why it's called War Of Hormones. And they were talking about it as young boys. There are more actual misogynistic songs out there but then they only look at bts to drag and ignore when their own faves do it.

It was people taking a couple of lines out of context. Yes, they are talking about women as an object, but it is in the context of teenage male hormones and how society allows them to express it. Like many others I suspect that it was Anti's who raised the stink about it while pretending to be ARMY as this was when BTS was really starting to get some traction.
The song is an absolute bop and it's one of my all time fav song. I'm so sad they don't perform this live anymore since they were attacked.
That Halloween dance practice is epic with them all keeping in character, especially Tae! In other stupid attacks some have also attacked this dance practice because of Hobi's prisoner costume claiming it's related to WW2. A basic google disproves that but they still often use it in claims BTS members are problematic.

As a woman I do not find this even slightly offensive. They aren't calling us bitches and hoes or telling us to blow the whistle .... The snowflakes of this world found it offensive. But let's be real if they re-released this in the US in mostly English (to ensure radio play) and didn't change the actual lyrics not only would it be a HUGE hit. Within the first few months it would be so over played, probably one of the most played out songs of the year. It would be that song that plays on every radio station alllll the time. The song that when you turn on the radio and switch the station it is also playing on that station and the next one at the same time! This would be one of the most requested songs in the club. Because you can dance to it and because it is a super sexy flirty song. Honestly the guys were like hey we aren't boys we are men and yes we have sexual urges too! 😉
I never ever understood why people got upset about "girls are like an equation, us guys just do them, yup"😅 I was like oh ok, these guys have a sexy side...really who isn't totally down for that.😉
If they had released this song this year instead of years ago there probably also wouldn't have been so much hate on it because of their popularity. It is truely 1 of my ultimate top 5 songs of theirs. 🔥🔥🤩😎
