  • Learn how to make a DIY off shoulder shirt without a pattern in this easy step by step sewing project for beginners! The top, which features a gathered bodice and long flowy sleeves, is a very simple shape and super easy to learn to sew! You just need to know how to sew with a sewing machine and how to sew a straight stitch and you'll be able to make this project, so it's great if you're a beginner who wants to learn how to make clothes easy!
    I used a lightweight non-stretch gauze fabric, but any light airy fabric would look great - including both non-stretch (which is very easy to sew and perfect for beginners) or stretchy fabric. It’s an easy blouse to make so it’s a perfect sewing project for beginners or anyone looking for a quick and easy sewing tutorial. Make it long or cropped - it would look so cute as a gathered crop top as well!
    *****
    MATERIALS NEEDED:
    -At least 1 1/3 yards of a lightweight fabric - I used a light non-stretch woven gauze fabric, but any light airy woven fabric would work. It would also look great with a stretch knit fabric!
    *NOTE: My fabric was about 60” wide, and I used 1.3 yards (with only a little leftover). If your fabric is significantly narrower (as many woven fabrics are only 40-some inches wide), I suggest getting at least 2 yards to be on the safe side!
    -At least 2.5 yards of ½ inch wide elastic (again, get extra especially if you’re a larger size).
    -At least 1 yard of a trim of your choice for the sleeves - I used EXACTLY 1 yard, but again I suggest getting extra to be safe, especially if you want larger, more flowy sleeves than mine.
    -A basic fitted tank top to use as a template (it won’t get cut up or destroyed)
    -Basic sewing supplies: sewing machine, thread, needle, scissors, safety pin, tape measure, etc. If you’re using stretch knit fabric, use a ball point needle to sew.

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
    In the tutorial you’ll learn how to use a tank top you own to cut and sew the bodice (so it fits you perfectly), how to measure your arms to cut out and make the sleeves, how to make an elastic casing to gather the fabric together, how to add a lace trim to the sleeves, how to sew the pieces together and attach the sleeves, and how to finish and hem the edges so the fabric won’t fray. You'll learn all the steps of cutting and stitching this blouse!
    It's the perfect project for women or kids, and would look great on petite, medium, or plus size figures, and everyone in between!

    Hey everyone!!! I’m SO excited because I hit 10,000 subscribers here on my channel this week!!! Thank y’all so much for getting me to this exciting milestone! I’m putting together a giveaway I hope to have up in the coming weeks to celebrate so stay tuned :)
    PS: I hope you like this tutorial! I’ve had a lot of requests for different styles of sleeves, and I’d been wanting to make an off shoulder top for myself like this with the long, flowing sleeves… it was easy to make so I figured I might as well record it and turn it into a tutorial to share! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a fantastic day!

    My husband bought me a Brother XR3340 and I didn’t have any idea on what to do with it. I watched your videos and they seem easy to make. So I tried your off shoulder blouse video as a first project and boy I am so proud of myself. Thank you so much. This helps my anxiety too. Just keep watching your tutorials and sew! 🙏🏻👏

    Hi Monica
    I love your videos! It's clear, you take your time to explain and you actually show exactly what your doing.
    Is it possible you can make a tutorial on two different shaped sleeves?
    1. The batwing sleeve and 2. The dolman sleeve.
    Hope you can also make a tutorial on a batwing top and dress.

    5:00 if you're scared of accidentally pulling the elastic completely through, my little trick is pinning the "non-working" end of the elastic to the fabric just under the opening for the casing.

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому

      Great idea Jo!!! Thank you for sharing :) It can definitely be a pain to start over if the elastic goes inside the casing.....

    7:36 I like to do a decorative stitch, not just a plain straight stitch. But my sewing machine has 100 stitches, so if your machine doesn't, don't worry about it. That's just what I like to do when I put trim on the edge of a project.

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому

      Ohh I bet a decorative stitch would look great above a pretty trim! I am definitely a fan of decorative stitches :) Wow, 100 stitches! There must be so many great options, I think I'd have trouble choosing from that many lol! Thanks for watching and sharing your tips!!!

    • @sashadavis4218
      @sashadavis4218 5 років тому

      I also have 100 stitches, but I honestly think I've only used 8!

    Hello 👋 I am a new subscriber! I realize that you made this video a while ago but I have a question if you wanted to make the bottom of the sleeves ribbed as well so it’s like a ballon ribbed sleeve instead of adding a designed fabric to or how would you do that do you have a video on that?

  • @sunshineo6194
    @sunshineo6194 6 років тому

    Oh my.. I have been waiting for this tutorial for long time ever since i saw your prev fabric haul and this fabric. I bought same fabric from HL and was waiting for follow your video. :-) Can you tell how much fabric you actually needed to use to make this top out of 1.3 yrds you had.

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому

      Oh I'm so glad you got some of that fabric!!! Isn't it so pretty!? I have a long rectangle of fabric left from the edge (not enough to make another garment, though), but the way I had to cut it out I needed pretty much all 1.3 yards that I had... however if you're not sure exactly how to cut or lay it out on your fabric, you could always take the steps of cutting out the rectangles of the bodice and sleeves on a piece of paper first and then lay out that paper onto your fabric to see how best to cut the pieces. Thank you for watching and happy sewing! :)
