@@SuvaMukherjee yes, that is problem of certain mentality.
One retired family lawyer in Indonesia said in his book what he observed during his career.
The majority community in that country had mentality to keep on fighting the battle even not winning passing their battles to their future generations to continue.
The minority community had some wisdom to compromise, making things end and move forward so the burden of their battles never reach to their future generations.
Now from above story connect the dots of not just sub-continent, but conflicts going around the world.

I am a Bengali, born and bred. I was a final year student at Dhaka University during 1971. I opposed the secessionist movement because I considered the incipient Bangladesh to be a racist state that would lead to the ethnic cleansing of the Urdu-speaking Bihari minority. The slogan “Bengal for the Bengalis” is just as reprehensible as “America First” or “Britain First” and sure enough, it did lead to the ethnic cleansing of the Biharis (I remember a Guardian leader from about 1977 entitled “Five years of forgetting the Biharis” - you can dig it up from the archives, I’m sure). Regrettably, of course, the response of West Pakistan, in the form of the Pakistani military, was also racist and the fall of Dhaka on December 16 was its consequence. Objectively, one can see the events of 1971 as one of those rare instances where both sides were on the wrong side of history - West Pakistan choosing to fight a losing battle against a nationalist movement, and Bangladesh choosing to be an ethnically exclusionary state led by a demagogue whose hateful and divisive rhetoric was a preview of the US under Donald Chump. In the words of one Bengali academic, it was a case of “maximum stupidity on both sides”, with no one of sufficient stature who could have poured humane reason on inflamed passions. But that would have been difficult in any event, with India hovering menacingly in the background. After the 1965 war, when India was badly bloodied by the Pakistan Air Force, it decided to take revenge by stoking separatist tendencies in East Pakistan. It armed, trained and hosted the Bengali militants, and even used its own Border Security Force in cross-border raids. I guess from their point of view it was all worth it (although they still had to depend on the Soviet veto in the UN Security Council). But it’s funny to see the Indians bellyaching about Pakistan using exactly the same tactics now in Kashmir. All in all, the events of 1971 were one of the most harrowing episodes of the second half of the 20th century. And the consequences were just as baleful - a hubristic India went nuclear in 1974, with Pakistan quite understandably following suit. We don’t yet know how this will end, but the outlook is not sunny.

my point of criticism is him bleeding for Biharis rather than the religious minorities of Bangladesh which at current rate of leaving the country , will not be left by 2047.
my point of criticism is him bringing nationalism , which is not that big of a problem in grand scheme of things(rather that will be a good thing for Bangladesh)
besides , India did not go nuclear for the fear of Pakistan(conventional war) but it being made to realize that it will be destroyed at any day if it does not go nuclear as demonstrated by the USA and Uk in 1971 , another reason was China being already nuclear, another reason was pakistan working on nuke - proof - pakistan developed her own nuke within 14 days of India developing it(if it was not already nuclear then how come it developed it in so less time)

Because India was responding to a Pakistani invasion in Kashmir.
Pakistan assumed that crossing LOC would not be treated by India as same as “international boundary” (why Ayub sir thought that - “Kyunki Hindu Baniya Darpok hota hai” .. mind it, baniya caste represents less than 5% of Indian population, Indian PM was a Kayastha and Army Chief was a Bengali; lack of IQ is a common problem in Pakistan Army)
India decided to cross international border in Punjab to release the pressure on Kashmir. Its objective was not land grab. Lahore on the line mattered much more to Pakistan army than Dhaka would have been.

You will find this information interesting:
The name of the colonel mentioned by you who had said that he did not see any military action taking place was Lt Col Abdul Rasheed Janjua, who was the commanding officer of 8 East Bengal Regiment posted in Chittagong. He was picked up from his residence in the evening by his second in command, the then Major Zia ur Rehman (the husband of Khalida Zia) in his sleeping suit, taken to his office and shot there by Maj Zia.
Secondly, in March 1971 Rafique ul Islam was a Captain serving in East Pakistan Rifles (the paramilitary force in East Pakistan equivalent to the then West Pakistan Rangers). On the night of 25/26 March he was given/took over command of 11th and 14th Wings of East Pakistan Rifles in Chittagong. He had about 300 West Pakistani servicemen serving in these two wings and their arrested. They were massacred the next day.

Why they should learn a foreign language for official work when it easily could be fixed by making both as state language. Imagine India forcefully imply Hindi as only state language over Tamil or Telegu people. Or imagine what if Bangla was forced as only official language. How hard it would be learn a new language. When you had an easy solution to make it both. The thing was not what he said, the thing was the mentality not to accept the culture of other region, not recognising their identity.

I repeat that I do not consider them heroes at all. I consider them normal businessmen thriving in a capitalistic society. I also said that the jute factories set up by them generated economic activities in that region and created employment opportunities, and they might have proven helpful for the newly created state of Bangladesh. Otherwise, they would have had to set up jute factories from scratch which would have proven quite expensive.

And what about Indian military personnel disguised as local bengalis attacking the Pakistan army through ambushes across the water streams and conducting hit-and-run missions, pretending to raise local resentment and hatred and consequently Pakistan army retribution against them fueling already abysmal security meltdown??
Your whole perspective is prejudiced against the state of Pakistan and downplaying indian sinister role to exploit this vulnerability to settle the score.
Officially indian army launched a military assault on the 04th of December but their covert operations under KAO RAW chief began way before the general elections of 1970 or maybe before 1968 onwards.

Because for people in west pak, the four provinces, it was an election, for United east Pak it was a referndum on independence, the bengali parties had already decided that Mujib and his party would lead them into independent state, by the way mujeeb slogan at election rallies used to be long live bangla, and his theme, independence from pakistan.
