    The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is an independent, coeducational, privately endowed university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance knowledge; to educate students in science, engineering, and technology; and to tackle the most pressing problems facing the world today. We are a community of hands-on problem-solvers in love with fundamental science and eager to make the world a better place.
    The MIT UA-cam channel features videos about all types of MIT research, including the robot cheetah, LIGO, gravitational waves, mathematics, and bombardier beetles, as well as videos on origami, time capsules, and other aspects of life and culture on the MIT campus. Our goal is to open the doors of MIT and bring the Institute to the world through video.

    Hydrogel submarine - just a bunch of dudes sat and lying down floating fast through the sea. And one scary dude puffing on a cigar.

    ....this doesn't seem to inventive. However, I do see the applications for it.

    • @S-K.
      @S-K. 7 років тому +3

      I think it's just the combination of the technologies that makes this particularly innovative. i.e. the watergel itself and the 3d printing process (which I'm sure includes some cleverly engineered reservoirs inside the part). Reading the public release report, it seems that the watergels that have been made previously aren't nearly as flexible nor soft as this one is, which is always cool.

    • @thomasw8074
      @thomasw8074 7 років тому

      ok. I do see your point, and yes I do believe they have reservoirs as well.

    Invisible robots in the water that can catch living organisms.
